Almost all of the other members of the team had left. It was just three other guys and Jaime who were still out there. He was helping with bringing the equipment back to the gym. His father was still at work and he didn't want to go home because he'd feel lonely. Jaime hated the feeling of being left alone. Isolation was one of his biggest fears. Sure, he could manage being alone for a day or so but more than that and he'd be sure to go crazy.
Anyways, if there was a reason to stay out of his home, why not stay? Baseball practice was one of his favorite distractions. He was passionate about the sport and always made sure that he gave it his all. Jaime wasn't competitive, he just loved playing baseball.
He picked up a duffel bag that contained some baseball bats before lunging it over his shoulder making his way toward the gym to put them back. It was the last batch of equipment and after that Jaime was going to go home. He had on a blue t-shirt, grey sweatpants and sneakers. He wasn't really aware of where he was walking because he was looking up at the autumn sky which he really liked to admire.

Normally, Lacey enjoyed cheer. Cherry was an awesome coach, and she understood laziness that any of her girls encountered, so she was always pretty chill whenever they were tired... but Lacey was really just not into it that day. Her time of the month had ended not so long ago, and her hormone levels were still thriving, which meant, small fragments of PMS were all still flowing throughout her body. She hadn't felt much like trying during the squad's usual ten lap run around the track at all, in fact, she walked the whole thing, basically, until Cherry yelled at her to kick it into shape... which Lacey of course refused to do (because Lacey don't do what no bitch tells her to do, mhm /zsnapformation). So, needless to say, she got kicked out of practice for the rest of the week until she got her act together, and was now walking towards the baseball field. Lacey usually liked sitting down and staring at the clouds from the bleachers there, and right now she really needed some chillax time.
She had her black Nike athletic bag hanging off of her shoulder, walking towards the field, earbuds in, music blasting from her iPod. She was still in her SHS gray and red cheer shirt and shorts, too lazy to change back into her regular clothes. Just as she was pulling out her hair tie to undo her ponytail, shaking her hair out, she collided into some guy from the baseball team, "Fucking--!" her iPod dropped out of her pocket, the earbuds being ripped out of her ears and the strap of her bag sliding off of her shoulder, "Shit, I'm so sorry!"
excuse her vulgarity

Without looking where he was walking, Jaime collided with someone. He just didn't know who until his eyes averted from the ground to the other. Instead of doing what he would have usually done in a situation like this, he once again looked away from her and down to her items that were scattered all over the floor. If it wasn't for that, Jaime would have yelled a quick Sorry! and would have dashed away from Lacey.
Jaime knew Lacey's name because he had heard his friend Stormy, who was a mutual friend, talk about her. He wasn't a stalker, don't get it twisted. After all, she was a taken lady and he wouldn't want any problems going on in her relationship because of him. Jaime dropped down the black duffel bag around his shoulder and knelt down.
"No, I'm the one who should be sorry... I was looking up at the clouds when I should have been looking down..." Jaime seemed like a blind man picking up her iPod from the ground. He then rose up once again and handed her the electronic. Jaime couldn't help that he was smiling and not to mention he was turning a little bit red. Surely that was attractive. He was doing his best to think of cold things like ice cubes or Greenland but that wasn't working.

Lacey half-smiled, taking her iPod from Jaime, "No, no, I should've listened to that rape kit I read," she shook her head, then realized her use of wording, correcting herself, "I-I read this thing that said girls who walk around with their earbuds in, blasting music are more likely to get raped," she scrunched her eyebrows, wondering why she was suddenly explaining all of this to a guy she didn't even know, "I'm... sorry," she laughed, readjusting the strap of her bag back onto her shoulder, "I didn't mean -- I don't think you're going to rape me or anything, I don't think anyone's going to rape me! Not that anyone wouldn't, or that I have a high opinion of myself to the point where I think they would..." she stopped herself before she could continue rambling, "I'm Lacey!" she held out her hand with a grin.
She cocked her head to the side, "I like to watch the clouds, too, it's fine," she shrugged, "kind of why I was here in the first place?" Lacey definitely had a problem with getting too comfortable around people she'd just met and not knowing when to stop talking, "You're free to join me," she glanced to the duffel bag he was carrying, then squinted her eyes, "assuming you're not busy."

When Lacey began talking about the rape kit, Jaime's eyes widened. Why did rape have to be a topic of discussion. However, he did not say anything and only kept smiling softly. His heart was pounding quickly as to almost come out of his chest because he was so nervous. Obviously, Jaime was already nervous but not as much as when Lacey began talking. He wasn't going to jump to defense because that would only imply things that really had never come to his mind.
"Oh..." Jaime laughed, smiling big. His green eyes became a little squint when he did so. "Oh I kn- I mean, I'm Jaime." he said with a closed smile as he looked to her and nodded before noticing her hand was out and therefore he took it. He shook it slowly before looking to the duffel bag that was lying on the ground. "Uh.. Oh, no I was just putting those away... I'd love to join you. Yeah!" he said, hesitantly before releasing her hand slowly.
Jaime picked the duffel bag up and swung it over his shoulder. "I just need to take these to the room there, I'll be right back." The equipment room wasn't too far away. He dropped the bag down before walking back toward where Lacey was. "Alright, ready. I don't usually cloudwatch but I'm pretty sure it's more fun when you're with someone else." Jaime couldn't say no. Especially because he had a crush on her and he still felt bad, but he - didn't care.

"Jaime..." Lacey nodded, like she was trying to match his name together with his face, then a light bulb flashed in her head and she raised her eyebrows, "Oh! Jaime, you're Stormy's friend, right?" she smiled, "I knew I recognized your face!" she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, reaching over to open a zipper on the side of her bag to put away her iPod, then zipping it back closed.
Truth be told, Lacey had been pretty grumpy mainly for the fact that she was lonely. She'd been ridiculously busy, as had Luke, so they'd been spending way less time than they were originally used to. They used to spend every day together! They were lucky if they saw each other for a minute, and Lacey was growing terribly antsy because of it. Being alone wasn't something she was very used to, if she ever needed someone before, she could always find a guy -- but having Luke was different. She knew not to cross boundaries because that's not who she was, that was old Lacey, and she really didn't want to relapse back into that.
"It most definitely is way more fun with other people," she nodded, insistently, starting to work towards the baseball bleachers, glancing up to the sky, "I like to make out different shapes, find images," she turned her head towards Jaime, "keeps the imagination going, ya' know? Like that episode of Spongebob when he refused to leave that box," she shrugged, "it's probably not the same thing, but you get the idea."

"Right! I was going to say that I already knew your name from her but I didn't want to sound as if I was stalking you or anything." Jaime nodded affirmatively before looking forward as they began walking toward the bleachers.
He had never met or seen the old Lacey and that was probably a good thing. Jaime wasn't expecting anything, really. It was nice that he was being able to spend time with her even if this was just a one time thing. At least she didn't find him creepy or anything like that. He could even get used to being friends! Eventually, after his crush on her subsided.
Jaime stepped up the bleachers and made it to a high row before taking a seat. He looked to Lacey and said, "Oh right... How did he do that little hand thing again...?" he looked pensive for a few seconds before snapping a finger and smiling closed. "IMAGINATION." Jaime moved his hands to make a rainbow while he widened his eyes slightly and smiled trying to copy Spongebob Squarepants. He then put his hands down and began laughing, "I understand." Jaime looked up at the sky and move his arms back, leaning against the bench behind the one he was sitting on. "What do you see?" he asked her.

Lacey laughed and nodded, "That's the one!" she half-shrugged, setting her bag next to her as she took a seat next to Jaime, Lacey looked up to the sky, hovering a hand above her face to block the view of the sun from her eyes so she could see the clouds. She squinted slightly, examining the cloud formations and shapes, leaning back where she sat against the back-fence of the bleachers, as they were sitting on the very top, "I see an elephant! I think, or a seahorse?" she giggled a bit, "I don't know... how... but it looks sort of like both, if you tilt your head a certain way," she nudged Jaime softly, "what do you see?" cdn.c.photoshelter.com/img-get/I0000CKL7xC6MATs/s/750/750/Elephant-Shaped-Cloud.jpg

Jaime's eyes were kept on the figure in the sky. He squinted his eyes to see if he could get a more accurate shape. "It looks like..." he began to distinguish it. "You're right! It does look like an elephant..." he looked to her before he began to get distracted by how beautiful her eyes glistened in the sun. Jaime turned his head slowly to look up at the cloud. He bit the inside of his cheek before raising an eyebrow, "It looks like Dumbo. It is in the air, after all." he smiled brightly before pointing to another shape. knittingiris.typepad.com/knitting_iris/images/2007/06/21/duckwormcloud.jpg"What about that one? It reminds me of a dragon, like those in Dragon Tales." Jaime smiled closed as he looked up at it. He remembered that cartoon fondly but at the same time there was a melancholic, nostalgic memory about it. His mom used to love watching it with him. He remembered her saying that her favorite was Cassie, the light pink one.

Lacey nodded in agreement, smiling fondly at the memory of the show she used to watch so much as a kid, "It does!" she bit her lip, folding her hands across her stomach as she leaned back, "I still remember the little chant, I wish, I wish, with all my heart," she placed a hand to her chest, mimicking little Emmy from the show, " to fly with dragons, in a land apart. Best. Show. Ever." She looked to Jaime for a second, then looked down, "I sang the theme song a million times when I was little, it was my favorite," she shrugged, "I was obsessed with dragons. And I really wanted that lucky rainbow stone," she turned to him, "I would have killed for it, I'm not even kidding." Her voice was so light and admirable though that her words didn't seem to sound so harsh as they might have in other circumstances. Lacey sighed, looking back to the sky again, then giggled at the first formation she saw, " That looks like a kangaroo," she nodded, surely, "I've never seen one like that." www.pals.iastate.edu/carlson/images/bunny.jpg
