Nate laughed when Sophie stopped to kick off her shoes. "I'm sure glad those are girl's fashion," he said, scratching behind his head then flattening his bangs across his face. "I'd die in them." After cramming his hands back down into his pockets, Nate turned his head to look at her and let out a small 'humph' with a smile.
"So uh.. lead the way," he nodded at her and started walking again after she'd picked up the shoes.

"Oh," Nate smiled and looked down at his shoes, shaking his hair around. Kids and long hair.. psh. Always rustling it. "Yea. Yea that sounds cool." After Sophie walked in, he followed and took a look around. The place was cute and he smiled at its simplicity. "So much nicer than my dorm," he said through a chuckle as he pulled his hands from his pockets. It was much warmer in here.
"Can I leave my shoes here? Or should I keep them on? Or.. throw them no the lawn?" he asked, placing his left foot behind his right, ready to pull off his shoes at her say so.

Nate smiled when she placed her shoes on the ground near the door and took that as the signal to take off his own. After slipping them off, he crouched to pull up his socks over his jeans. It was a weird habit he had. When he stood, Sophie was on her way to the kitchen. He followed.
Shrugging, Nate peeked over her shoulder to look into the fridge. "I've never really had coffee.. so I guess I'll try some," he said, sounding a bit scared. He wasn't usually one to try new things. "If it tastes like shit.. can I have one of those?" he asked, pointing over her shoulder into the fridge at a 7-up. But just after sticking his hand forward, Nate slipped and found himself ramming face first into the back of Sophie's head. He'd lost complete control of his feet and after a split second was practically dragging his face down her back mumbling "oh shit oh shit oh shit" the whole way down. When his knees finally hit the floor, Nate regained balance and shot straight back up onto his feet and backed up against the wall.
"Well fuck, I am so sorry," he said, all the color drained from his face.

"I have no idea what the hell just happened," Nate stammered over his words, speaking quickly as he shook his head. Eyes wide, he watched Sophie dab at her nose and frowned, but kind of laughed. "Your floors are really slippery.. and these are new socks," he added, looking down at his feet and wiggling his toes.
"You don't have to make me coffee," he laughed. "I would just take one of those sodas but.." he started whispering, "I'm a bit afraid of your fridge now." Smiling, he looked at the fridge then back at Sophie who now had like three towels up against her face.
"Jesus, you okay?" he asked, reaching forward and lifting one of the towels. "Lean forward, it'll stop the rush." He might not have been the smartest of kids, but he'd had his fair share of bloody noses and knew how to deal with them.

Nate snorted. "If you insist," he said, squatting a bit to look into her eyes. He didn't stare too long though, switching his gaze to her nose. It seemed to have stopped. Or at least the rush did.. it was coming out like a waterfall. Now it was barely even dripping. Sophie must have sensed that too because she was now standing up straight again.
Nate had been smiling at her and was about to ask if he could help with the coffee, but his phone buzzed against his thigh before he could. Pulling it from his pocket, he groaned when he saw the little floating envelope, beneath which he read "Eli". "Oh boy here we go," he mumbled, opening the text. Eli was asking where he was, why he wasn't in his dorm, and said he needed to talk to him about Sophie. Nate only groaned, typed "i'm out with friends bro", and turned off his phone before sliding it back into his pocket.

"Eli," Nate said through a heavy exhale. "He's playing mom, asking why I'm not home." Looking up, Nate noted the coffee machine and tilted his head to the side. "Wow that things a beast," he said, moving closer to examine the prehistoric machine. Honestly it probably wasn't that old, but Nate had never really focused too much on things like this.
Turning away from the coffee, Nate lifted Sophie's chin to examine her nose. "Yes I'd say you're coming along quite well," he said in a silly accent, pouting his lips and cocking a brow to try and get a laugh out of her.

Nate sort of jumped when Sophie practically collapsed into him. Not sure of what else to do, he loosely wrapped his arms around her back and held her there. When the coffee machine stopped, there was a very clear silence about the room. It was calm, and he could feel his eyelids getting heavy. Maybe coffee was a good idea. But he couldn't find the energy to move; he couldn't find the strength to let go of Sophie. Which made no sense at all, because it took next to no energy to just drop his arms. But he couldn't.
"Oh.. coffees done," he said softly, looking down at the top of Sophie's head. His phone buzzed again against his thigh but he was content to ignore it.

Nate sighed contently when Sophie suggested they go to her room. He took the cup and tried to hold it with all his fingers to warm his hands. He wasn't really bothered by the fact that they were going up to her bedroom.. even if he felt kind of bad for Eli. Was it wrong to be hanging out with your brother's recently ex girlfriend like this? Was it wrong to be getting a bit more comfortable than was probably acceptable for 'friends'? He didn't want to think about that.
Following close behind Sophie, Nate felt his phone buzz again. Eli was being awfully persistent with these text messages. Just before heading up the stairs, Nate paused and set his cup on a nearby table before pulling out his phone. One text read "Sophie walked out on me. We're over. She thinks I cheated again.". Nate only snorted and flipped to the next text. "I'm worried about her. I don't know where she went." That text sort of made Nate frown. How was he supposed to tell Eli that she was fine? More than fine, really.
So he ignored both texts. There. Problem solved. Or at least avoided..

Nate set his coffee beside Sophie's phone on the table then took a seat next to her, still thumbing through the texts on his phone. "Yea still Eli..." he groaned, clearly annoyed. "Nah he's just.. he's telling me you guys broke up." Nate turned his head slightly to look at Sophie and sort of half smiled. Like a sort of pity smile. He felt bad for her. He felt bad for Eli too.. but that was for a different reason. He felt bad for Sophie because none of this was her fault. Eli had cheated in the past, so he had no reason to doubt the fact that he'd done it again.
"I don't really wanna leave yet," Nate said, looking back to his phone. "Oh I mean unless you want me to.."

Nate smiled when Sophie said she didn't want him to leave. That was comforting. And while she changed, Nate took the time to text Eli back. He tried to be helpful, but stuck to vague phrases.
-
When Sophie asked about the coffee, Nate pushed his phone into his pocket and reached for his cup. He took a cautious sip, wincing as the hot liquid met his lips. Honestly he barely got any of it in his mouth... but he liked what he'd gotten. "Not bad," he said, smiling at Sophie who looked awfully comfy now. He looked down at his jeans and sighed. He wished he had a pair of shorts to put on like she had. Only, he wanted his basketball shorts. Not.. not her shorts. Why was he even thinking about that.
"Eli called down," he said, patting his pocket. "Hasn't texted me in a good ten minutes. So he's either showering, asleep, or dead." He laughed a little and looked at Sophie.
