Eric made his first venture into the city. He took the transit, which was actually his first time, so he really didn't know what to expect. He left around four, just as a chill started cutting the warm air, so that he wouldn't be out too long. Why he went on his own, he didn't really have an answer, so to calm his lonesome nerves, he chain smoked until he found a place that was familiar to him-- Starbucks. Finally, he thought, and dropped his latest butt on the ground, grinding it with the toe of his grey TOMS. The bottoms, of which, had black marks along the toes from doing this so often. He pushed the door open, hearing the welcoming sound of bells letting everyone inside know he joined them and pulled out his wallet and prepared to stand in a long, New York line for the famous coffee. His mind was still processing the week, since it has been his first week here at Somerset Highschool. Before he left for the city, Eric really hadn't done much prepping. His suitcases were left without unpacking, just rummaged and strewn about looking for an outfit for today, so it was all he could do to forget about all of the work he had ahead of him and just relax. The coffee was bound to make it better.

Zander decided to venture into the city this afternoon. Alone of course, because who else would he go with? He seemed to keep to himself a lot since he'd been in school so far. Walking into the coffee shop he was greated by a line of people, standing behind a boy, who looked to be about his age, and if he did say so himself looked pretty cute. He joined the line pulling some folded bills from his pocket as he tried to decide what he wanted. "It smells so good in here." He said to no one in particular as he inhaled the scent of coffee filling his nostrils.
Zander pushed his hair back out of his eyes. His outfit consisted of a maroon colored sweater, a pair of dark skinny jeans that were a hbit loose, and a pair of black TOMS.

It had only been a few minutes when the fact that Eric couldn't smoke indoors started to wear on him. The long line and his lack of coffee also contributed, and he'd like to think that was it, but the fact was, Eric was addicted to smoking and couldn't get along without cigarettes.
A voice from behind him, directly behind him he was sure, cut through the jumble of voices and loud noises that was Starbucks, and without thinking about it Eric turned around smiling, and locked eyes with the source. His freckled cheeks flushed and he looked down at the almost-holes in his shoes. Oh my God, he thought, Now I have to say something. "It's the second best part," he said as if he talked to strangers all the time, no problem. He acted like he had it together, but inside he couldn't quit thinking about how totally stupid he sounded, infront of this guy. The fact that it mattered to him, though, struck him as odd, because who cares, right? It's just some guy. A delinquent with knuckle tattoos and stuff, he thought, as if that really compared against Erics addiction. It was the only thing he could think of to make the unfermiliar face seem less... cute. The last thing Eric wanted to admit to himself was that he thought this GUY was even kind of attractive, because thoughts like those gave him anxiety, even though he was nowhere near the people back home he knew would tear him down inside for thinking that. Making sure he stopped thinking about all of this, Eric turned around toward the counter again, without a further word and stared at the back of the ladys head inbetween him and the counter.

Zander let out a small laugh at the boys comment, and watched him turn around. He was cute, but probably into girls. Most of the good ones were. He shook away the idea because finding him at all attractive would only make him embarrass himself.
"The second best part?" He repeated, turning the statement into a question. "I love the smell of coffee." He said, just randomly talking, not sure if the kid was even listening. When he turned back around. Zander was suprised, but he didn't bother saying anything else, because he figured there wasn't much else to say.
Except the guy was super cute. He debated saying something else to the kid, and since he was a risk taker. He spoke again, "I wish there was a starbucks closer to my school." He said. Wondering exactly how lame that sounded. Probably extremly lame. He wished he hadn't said it, but couldn't take it back.

"The, uh..." Eric turned around, "first best part is the coffee." Eric added a playfully sarcastic smirk to the end of his sentance, showing that he was only teasing. Unfortunately, Eric now found this guy attractive AND charming. Maybe, hopefully, this was one of those things where you meet someone in public and really hit it off and wind up never seeing that person again. It happened all the time at concerts, so why not Starbucks? "So do I," Eric began, afraid that this guy would eventually figure out how terrible Eric was at talking with people he wasn't familiar with, "I had to take the transit to the city. The town square by my school is mostly local shops, so here I am." He shrugged and hoped what he said made sense. Just before Eric could decide that maybe he should introduce himself, the cashier asked him 'Just what she could get for him' and made Eric turn from the conversation. "Hi," he said, smiling,"I would like a grande Caramel Machiatto with a double shot of espresso and extra caramel,."As Eric informed the cashier of his order, he thought that maybe his order sounded feminie, and hoped that the guy behind him didn't pay attention to it. He handed two bills, a five and a one, to the cashier who in exchange gave a reciept and a few coins to Eric. Without futher delay he walked to the other end of the counter, where a pool of people surrounded the pick-up table, and waited for his drink.

Zander stepped up to the counter, and ordered her drink, handed the woman some folded up bills and then, stood next to the boy he'd just met. "Hey Man long time no see." He said raising a brow, with a grin appearing on his lips as he looked at the boy. Well he was definitely cute. Stop thinking like that He told himself, but he couldn't help but find him attractive, and hey maybe he'd never see him again, which was more likely then the alternative. So he figured if he said something wrong he'd never have to see him again so it wasn't really a big deal.
"I'm Zander." He said, introducing himself, not sure what else he was supposed to say at the moment, nothing else seemed right and well, that was the best he could think, hoping that the other guy would fallow suit and introduce himself as well, he didn't say anything else. He kept telling himself to stop thinking about how attractive this kid was. It wasn't a big deal for him to find a guy attractive, really it was just the fact that he didn't think this guy would be into him, or maybe it was because he didn't seam to want to talk to him. There was lots of reasons this wasn't going to work. That didn't stop him from finding the boy attractive though.

"Too long," Eric agreed, returning a smile. It was at that moment Eric decided to quit being shy, and he did this by assuming this guy will leave with his drink, and melt back into the city, becoming just another face like he was before today. Deep down--well, maybe not that deep--Eric didn't want that to happen. Maybe they'd exchange numbers and meet up some day. Maybe he'd show him around the city, and then this guy would no longer be just another face. all of these thoughts were going through Erics head, when the non-stranger introduced himself
"I'm Eric," he replied, and moved to shake Zander's hand. "Is everyone in New York as nice as you?" Did that sound gay? Eric was sure that it did and hoped it didn't scare off his new aquaintance. 'But it was true', he reasoned with himself, 'This guy is acting especially nice towards me.'
"Eric?" a womans voice called out over the crowd, and a cardboard cup of coffee was sitting on the pick-up counter waiting for him. He grabbed the cup and returned to Zander, "It was great, meeting you," Eric told him, letting a hopefully-charming smile appear on his face.

"Well it depends on who you ask." He shrugged. "Are you from around here?" He asked, just before the boy turned to leave. Zander grabbed hisdrik and caught up with him. Taking a sip of the warm coffee.
"Are you headed back to the train?" He asked pulling his phone from his pocket and checking the time. It wasn't to late. He stuck it back into his pocket hoping that Eric would say yes and the two could walk together, and maybe exchange numbers and talk again sometime. That part of him was not the rational part. That part of him wanted to not beieve that he'd never see him again, and for a second he imagined it. Maybe the kid was into him too. He wasn't sure, but he didn't want to let him walk away.

"Um," Eric pushed his bangs away from his eyes, "no." He sipped his coffee, keeping his eyes on Zander's, "I moved here from Missouri to go to this boarding school near here; It's my first time in the city... and New York in general." He raised his eyebrows to emphasize the 'big move'.
Eric wasn't really planning on going back so soon, but by the sound of it Zander was, and if Eric wasn't mistaken, Zander's tone was almost inviting. Naturally, Eric definitely did not want to turn down this offer, and tried to think of a way to not seem like he would do whatever Zander was planning on doing, if he would let him.
"I didn't come with a game plan," He began, "but uh..." Since Eric wasn't really sure if Zander asked because he was going back to the transit or because he was staying in town it was hard to choose the 'right' answer. He went with his first instinct and stopped himself from thinking about it further. It's just some guy; who cares, right? "I was thinking about heading back soon, yea."
No, he really wasn't, but he definitely didn't mind leaving if Zander was. That was what he was afraid of-- why couldn't he just meet a nice girl and live happily, normally, ever-after? Instead he was out, chasing this guy who he had never seen in his life with the slight chance that they might become friends or something equally bad.

Zander nodded, finding himself staring at the boy as he spoke, not listening to a word he was saying. Something about going to school here, but not living here. In stead he found himself staring at the boy instead of listening to his words. He watched his lips moving nodding as if he was listening something about not living in New York. Zander had always wanted to live in new York when he was growing up , he figured it was a col place to live, and even now living here was a taste of what was to come in the future, and if he kept meeting cute guys like Eric then he'd have no problem with living here.
"Oh cool." He said." I'll walk with you." He said starting to walk away hoping that Eric would follow him. Wait had he said something about going to a boarding school? He tried to remind the scene that had just played out in front of him in his head to remember the words that had come out of Eric's mouth instead of the way his lips moved looking so Kissable. Again he found himself getting pulled out of the fantasy world in which he had a chance with this kid. He wasn't sure what he said, and trying to remember was not working it was like trying to rewind a movie but skipping completely over the scene he wanted to watch. Not sure what exactly to say. He started talking about himself, bad habit he had.
"I'm not actually from around here either." He said, biting his bottom lip, and taking a sip of his coffee.
"I live in Michigan. I just come out here for School," He shrugged not wanting to get into the story because this kid didn't need to know his entire life story. He knew that telling him would really just make things worse, more awkward, and he didn't plan to let this one get away without a at least getting a phone number and maybe becoming Friends At the least. Even the thought of that word made him grimace. He really didn't want to be friends, as much as he pushed the thought out of his mind it kept coming back.
No matter how hard he tried to ignore the part of him telling himself that this kid was cute and he should go for it, the thought kept making it's way back into his mind coming back with a vengeance.Clearly this wasn't working, so he decided he was just going to go with it. Planning not to force himself to not think about it, since his mind kept coming back to it. As long as he didn't say anything to Eric-Even his name was attractive-then it wouldn't be to awkward he figured.
