'Yeah, when Rose was pregnant with Violet all she did was eat oreos', Tyler replied walking in to the store and looking around. There was a lot of stuff and he really had no idea what he wanted to buy Violet. Anything that he got her would be fine in her eyes, because she was a baby and well ... Babies didn't have Christmas lists anyway. Still, faced with so much stuff he felt a little overwhelmed. 'It's weird 'cause before she was pregnant she never liked them', Tyler continued, leading Lina over to a wall of plush toys. Tyler picked up a small white plush rabbit, it had a little bell inside so when you shook it it made a sound. Would that get too annoying? 'Violet seems to like bunnies', he pondered aloud holding the toy out in front of him and staring at it.

"Hmm, I think I'd use pregnancy as an excuse to just eat a bunch of the foods that I love and be like 'Yeah this is for the baby' even though it's a scientific fact that the phrase 'eating for two' is untrue." She laughed, looking at the little toys everywhere. Brightly colored, made of plastic and plush fabric and wood. Things to chew on, things to throw, things to roll around with. There were so many things! How would she know what Violet wanted?
"Bunny rabbits are fun, but what if she doesn't like the bell? Does she like toys with bells?" Lina reached out, grabbing a blanket. It was one of those blanket buddies, with the head of a stuffed animal and a blanket for a body, so kids could cuddle with it. "They have a rabbit one of these. Would she like one of these? I know one of the kids I used to baby sit always carried one around with her, she loved them."

'Oh, I don't know about the bell', Tyler replied, putting the bunny on the shelf and then picking up a unicorn blanket buddy, it was pretty cute, and it was purple. Violet was a shade of purple right? So it was relevant, yes, he was buying the unicorn blanket thing. 'Okay, unicorn blanket thing, yes, no bell bunny', Tyler nodded earnestly, 'What about something educational, like I don't know one of those plastic books with all the buttons, it encourages reading right?', Tyler walked over to all the electronic type toys. Something to do with reading would be good, he didn't want Violet to struggle with dyslexia like he had.

Lina laughed when he said yes to the unicorn. It was definitely cute, and she liked that it was purple. She wondered if he did that on purpose, matching her name with the color of the stuffed toy. "Educational, hmm." She looked about the store with him, following him to the books. "The ones where there are things to touch, yeah, those are educational. There's always those block toys, too, the ones where you put the blocks in the right shapes? Unless she already has those."
"Oh!" Lina reached out, exclaiming excitedly as she grabbed a book by Sandra Boynton. "I used to love these when I was little. My mom would read them all the time. Like this one, about dogs," she pointed to it. "It helps kids learn how to count." She looked at Tyler with a tentative smile. "If you don't mind, I'd love to buy Violet some books for Christmas, as my gift to her. Every baby needs Sandra Boynton books," she said matter of factly. "My mom used to get them every time a friend was having a baby. They're perfect."

'That'd be really nice', Tyler replied, picking up one of the books and smiling down at the colourful cover. He could almost imagine a much younger Lina tucked up in bed with her mom reading to her. Then his mind drifted to a slightly different scene. Tyler and Lina sat either side of Violet in Tyler's double bed. They'd be reading stories to Violet, Lina being the narrator and Tyler making up silly voices for each of the characters, doing his best not to stumble over the simplest of words. Tyler shook himself from his reverie and glanced up at Lina who was busy browsing through more books, looking excitable. 'I like the look of this one', Tyler said holding up a book which had a sock puppet type creature going through the middle of it, he put his hand in to the puppet and made it look at Lina, 'Hey Lina!', he moved the puppets mouth in time with his words, 'You're lookin' pretty hot today!', he made the puppet say, and then burst in to a fit of giggles.

Lina selected two books for Violet. The first was one about dogs that included lots of counting (one dog "woof," two dogs "bow wow," etc) which would probably be useful for Violet when she was older, and just fun when she was little. She also picked up one about dinosaurs because she thought that would be fun and dinosaurs were awesome. If Violet grew up and didn't like dinosaurs, Lina was going to have a big problem with that. Seriously, who doesn't love dinosaurs? The little cartoon dinos were cute, and the big huge Jurrasic park dinosaurs were cool. They were great creatures. Lina was stilling holding on to the hope that she could ride a dinosaur someday, even though it probably wasn't going to happen.
Lina laughed when Tyler put his hand in the sock puppet and made it say that she was hot. Being a diva as always, she struck a pose, one hip jutted out and one hand in the air. "Of course I look hot," she joked, grinning. "You and me, we're like the two hottest people around. Most attractive couple right here," she leaned over and planted a soft kiss on his cheek. "Actually, make that most attractive and the most bad-ass."

'Are you referring to /me/ as bad ass?', Tyler laughed, and as Lina pulled away he caught both her hands in his, 'I have to tell you, with a baby to look after and bills to pay, I don't feel very bad ass'. It wasn't a big deal, but for some reason it made Tyler think more about who he'd become because ... Well, he /used/ to be a bad ass. Going out to parties, drinking, getting girls pregnant ... Now he could barely remember the last drink he'd had, as for getting a girl pregnant ... Well it had been awhile lets just put it that way. 'I agree with you on the most attractive couple thing though', he added.
Ooc; had to do this on my phone D: sorry for crap-ness.

Lina shrugged, a soft smile splayed on her lips. "Of course you're bad ass. You're a teen dad taking care of a beautiful daughter without giving up or taking any easy way outs." She put her palm gently against his chest, making sure not to apply pressure. "Besides, you got shot twice and survived, and your first day out of the hospital, you went Christmas shopping!" She laughed, moving her hand away. "How much more bad ass can you get?"

'Well, when you put it that way', Tyler smiled sheepishly, 'You're still hot!', he then added, a little too loudly, and then went on to start a pillow fight with the purple unicorn he was still holding. Apparently being in a toy store had brought out his inner child. Before Lina could retaliate he had grabbed and electronic book toy and went sprinting off down an aisle which was entirely pink.
Once down the aisle he realized he had stumbled across all the barbies and baby dolls. These things seemed a little too old for Violet, but there were some cool dolls that were in black boxes, they were like ... Monster dolls. Tyler picked up one that was meant to look like Medusa, it was pretty rad.
