It hadn't been too terribly long since Lorelai and Martin had hung out together but it honestly still felt like an eternity. Was it that she'd said something stupid? How could he not be aware of her crush? It was obvious to her... Painfully obvious, in fact, and she sort of assumed that his ignorance to it meant that he didn't share those feelings until she invited him on this little date. She'd even said the word 'date' at least four times to ensure that he knew what to expect and couldn't confuse this for just a friendly trip to dinner. She had been stuck in the 'friendzone' with almost every guy that she'd ever had interest in because she was too insecure and shy to make a move on them so she was determined to not allow it to happen this time. She didn't know how but she was going to make sure that Martin was her boo by Christmas even if that meant taking a giant leap and confessing her crush directly.
She possibly looked a little formal for Chipotle but that wasn't a big deal in her head at least. Martin always looked so handsome and sophisticated that she didn't think that he could possibly consider it strange plus she was wearing the Tiffany's bow necklace that he had given her for her birthday the previous month so maybe he'd notice that and be filled with the urge to kiss her. But, she didn't have that kind of luck so she wasn't holding out. How were all of her sisters in such happy committed relationships? Hell even Cooper had Lydia! It was utterly confusing that they were so great with the opposite sex when she blushed whenever someone so much as called her 'cute'.
She found herself checking the time on her iPhone 5 approximately every thirty or so seconds just to make sure that he wasn't running late yet. They'd agreed to come at 7:30 so she was definitely early since she had arrived at about six o'clock. She didn't want to risk being late and offending him! So she felt like waiting for an hour and a half was the only reasonable thing to do. She'd already gone through four refills of raspberry tea and she really just wanted to see Martin even if he would never ever look at her the way that she was looking at him.

It had been quite a while since Lorelai and Martin hung out, had it not? However, Martin felt like he was doing Lorelai a favor by keeping his distance. He didn't know how she felt about him but he knew he absolutely adored her. Still, she seemed to be interested in what Martin would like to say the less finer things in life which confused him but he didn't think he should butt into it. It was worse already that she wasn't paying attention to how much Martin liked her, but trying to pull her to him? That was simply pathetic.
So like the good boy he was, Martin just waited for her to talk to him first. He even had Tamera give Lorelai's birthday present from him to her because he couldn't really just show up with it and give it to Lorelai himself. Not that Tammy could keep her mouth shut because she confessed that she let it slip away and she told Lorelai that it had been him who had actually bought her the bow necklace on her wishlist. At least Lorelai was happy, right?
A place like Chipotle wasn't entirely formal, which was why Martin didn't go too dressed up. Well, actually, he tended to over dress not matter the occasion. He simple sported on a white shirt, black pants and shoes because it wasn't over-dressing. Well, to Martin's standards it wasn't but he surely made it seem he was coming from some business meeting or something similar of the sort.
When he spotted Lorelai sitting there, he stopped for a second. She looked incredibly radiant and the word was simply an understatement. But didn't she always? "Calm down with the tea, Lorelai." he laughed before taking a seat and joining her. "Sorry I was late... Am I late?" he asked her before looking down to his watch and then shaking his head. Martin wasn't late but he guessed Lorelai had something important to say. He also noticed she was wearing the bow necklace and that probably meant she loved the detail.

Lorelai had always thought that Martin was well, for lack of better word, swell. She admired his ability to respect himself and know what he deserved which was the best, of course. She hadn't grown up with a lot of money so she wasn't really use to having the finer things in life like he oh so clearly was. It wasn't that she couldn't have them now considering that her mother had married a millionaire for chips sake. "You aren't late!" She assured a little too hurriedly. She couldn't have him feeling like he was late, late for a very important date! Okay, maybe she'd been watching too much Alice in Wonderland but it was truly her favorite movie.
"You look really spiffy, Martin." Spiffy? Had she really just told him that he looked spiffy? Sure, she always used that word because she felt like it was underrated but that didn't mean that it was okay to use it to describe the wonderful man in front of her! What if he preferred words like 'sexy' and 'bonertastic'? She couldn't possibly say those things! She had never felt more like a sad prudish virgin in her entire life and he hadn't even said anything to make her feel this way.
At least she knew better than to listen to her brother's advice on the subject of dating or really anything. Sure he was dating Lydia and she was definitely out of his league so he had some game but she wasn't sure that meant anything considering that Carol Maree had rejected him and the whole collecting her hair thing had been bizarre. Well, he wasn't technically collecting her hair for no reason since he planned on using her DNA to either clone or make some sort of a magical potion to make her horny so she'd have sex with him. It was actually sort of amusing that everyone assumed that he had been in love with her and that was why he was so determined but no.. He just wanted to make her lay down and spread her legs so he could check her name off of the list. "So um... I wanted to talk about something kind of serious about us."
How in the hell did she think that was a good way to bring this up?

"Oh," Martin said sure that he wasn't late but he didn't want to make Lorelai feel like a fool so he would just ask surprised. He placed both arms on the table, moving one over the other while looking to her. She looked even more beautiful up close which made him a little nervous, to be quite honest. He tilted his head when she used the word, spiffy. Well, maybe Lorelai was broadening her vocabulary and using words that people did not normally use. It was quirky in a way.
"Thank you. You look gorgeous." he complimented her with confidence. Martin felt the need to act cool when he was really nervous. He didn't want to show any hesitation. However, when Lorelai mentioned she wanted to talk about them, Martin became intrigued and sat up slightly to make sure he was listening correctly.
"About us?" he asked her. He knew it was dumb of him to echo her after hearing her precisely well. "Something serious.... That is...?" he rose an eyebrow.

Gorgeous.
Lorelai had always wanted to be called 'gorgeous' by someone. She always got 'adorable' and 'cute' but never ever gorgeous. It wasn't that she needed it for her own self esteem because she knew that she wasn't even remotely ugly but it felt nice hearing it especially from someone like Martin who didn't seem to give that kind of compliment out to just everyone. "Yeah.. I mean..." She wasn't really sure how she was suppose to go about telling him that she had a crush on him without coming off as a total loony so she was sort of stalling on the issue by taking sips of her tea and playing anxiously with her napkin. Why had she done this to herself and how could she get herself of this situation with grace? "I know that it's sort of... Let me start over.. I've liked you for a really long time as more than what I think that a friend should like another friend." Was that the best way to tell him that? "I just really want you to be the burrito to my enchilada." What in the hell had that been? Well, it was sort of from when Raine had told Elliot that he was her penguin only it was a hell of a lot more adorable with them. How could Mexican food ever be cute? It was food for chips sake!
If she could possibly take back words then she would but it was far too late to turn back time and do that so she was left just hoping for the best. There was always the chance that he felt the same and wouldn't think that she was completely nuts for wanting a real relationship with him. She didn't necessarily want to rush into things with him like her sisters had with their boyfriends especially since Beatrice was already saying the 'L' word to Finn and well.. everyone knew what had happened with Jonathan and Esme or rather what had been created because of their hormones and irresponsibility
"I won't be upset if you don't feel the same way! I mean I'll understand if you just want to stay friends but I felt like it was important that you know how I feel.. I never really take risks like this, you know? And you're worth the risk, I think because if you do want to try this then I bet that we'll be the best dang couple that anyone has ever seen. You could be Josh and I'll be Mindy except nicer." She had always loved Drake and Josh.

Was Lorelai serious? She seemed to be, aside from the burrito and enchilada thing. Was it because they were at Chipotle? He looked around then remembered they were. Maybe she just wanted to be cute about this? Well, Martin wasn't going to stop her, at least not now because it felt nice to hear her say this. What if it was a dream? To assure himself he blinked once then realized it wasn't.
"You did?" he said, acting as if he was taken a-back and not at all internally shrieking. His smile broadened still. "I like you a lot, too." Martin answered, keeping the smile on his face and nodding to assure her. What was he supposed to do? He was acting so cool it almost seemed he wasn't even remotely excited about this. But he was.
"What I mean to say, is that I like you more than a friend too." Wow, that sure came out dry. He hoped his smile made it sound sweet and sincere. Martin had a habit to be almost monotone sometimes. He blamed his life style, he was used to so much that even things that made him happy made him seem so - nonchalant.

Lorelai couldn't believe her ears when Martin said that he liked her, too! She was a tad concerned that he wasn't jumping up and down or showing too much excitement but his smile seemed genuine so she forced the thought out of her head. He wouldn't lie to spare her feelings! She reached over the table to grab one of his hands just to see how it felt and she was honestly surprised. Touching him, even this innocently, sent electricity down her spine.. Like fireworks going off inside of her body only well less violent since that actually didn't sound like the happiest thing in the world to experience now that she gave it a little thought. There was something special about this moment and she couldn't put her finger on what it was. Maybe it was the fact that this was going to be the first... The first innocent simple moment where she was just happy to be able to hold a boy's hand and these moments would be far more complicated as she got older. Hand holding would turn to kissing which would lead to sexual activity and she'd welcome them in their time but right now? All she wanted to do was sit at this table and hold his hand.
"I would be really happy if you gave me the pleasure of calling myself your girlfriend." Damn, why was she being so proper all of the sudden? "I mean... You know what I mean." She was just a tad nervous but she believed it was justified considering that Martin was the first guy that she had ever been this close to going steady with so to speak. Why did nobody call it that anymore? Sure this wasn't the fifties anymore but the idea of going steady with a boy had a sort of romance to it that 'dating' simply didn't have. She kind of felt like she had been born in the wrong era for dating since she longed for that sort of relationship. She just wanted things to be simple like they were back in those days.
But nothing is simple anymore, is it? Her sisters were both teenage mothers, Beatrice was struggling with a drinking problem and Cooper had to go through treatments for a brain tumor smaller than a walnut, no less. Her life was so chaotic at times that she questioned how she, too, hadn't been affected in someway but she really was fine.. A virgin who didn't drink or do drugs and had a steady spot on the honor roll.

Lorelai looked more excited than Martin, but he knew he was equally as ecstatic. He smiled closed when she said it was her pleasure and he shifted his eyes down to their hands. His hand opened up to take hers in his, it made him feel happy. Finally there was someone who he could share something special with. Maybe it could turn into a love story? Martin was such a romantic by default. After all, he was Spanish. It was in his blood.
"Oh no, the honor is all mine." Martin said in a humble tone. Was he just- Had he just said something humble? He was never so humble before but he hardly took notice of it because he was lost in Lorelai's eyes.
It was difficult, the task of averting his eyes from hers. It was such a contrast to the ones he was used to seeing in his reflection. Almost pitch black eyes with little to no emotion. Suddenly, he could feel her bright eyes radiating that joy she seemed to feeling at the moment. Was it that Lorelai's happiness brought a tinge of life to him? He couldn't really bare the thought but it was something that was going through his mind.
"I apologize for not being honest about my feelings before. It was difficult to do so when you were swooning for another guy." he confessed with all sincerity.

Lorelai really didn't mind how calm that Martin was about this whole thing. Did it really matter if he wasn't jumping up and down like a little kid in a candy store? She frowned when he apologized for not being honest about his feelings due to her longstanding crush on Parker Radke. What if he felt like he wasn't as important because she hadn't wanted him like she had Parker? Surely those feelings would be understandable but definitely false. She had wanted Parker in the unachievable fantasy way whereas Martin was more. He was something that she wanted and would not give up on without a fight. "Do you know when I really realized I wanted you? Those stupid dates to raise money for prom." Was she really telling him this story?
"Parker got Cassidy and I realized I didn't care. I realized that I didn't feel those feelings for him and had never felt the way I did about him and Cassidy as I did about you and your date. I just wanted to yell at her that you were supposed to be mine and I just... I never felt like that before and I'm not entirely sure what that means but I do know that I want you. I want to hold you and kiss you... I want to show you how wonderful loving and being loved in return can feel because I do love you.. I mean not in that crazy reckless in love let's get married and buy a cottage but I think I could be one day. I think I could really feel all of that one day if you'll allow me the chance." She blushed a bright crimson red when she realized that she had just rambled on about nothing for the past few minutes. He was probably bored out of his mind!
Or maybe he wasn't.
Maybe he was the guy who wouldn't just tolerate her quirks like rambling but actually kind of thought they were cute. Like Esme and Jonathan and her crazy irrational fear of the dark or Beatrice and Finn and her inability to cook anything ever aside from sometimes ramen noodles.[/size]
