Esme is starting to become 'the mother' of her friends. Having Cassidy has brought out these maternal urges in her and she just can't control them even around her teenage friends.. Hell, she tries to mother people older than her! She -work in progress-
Background:
Esme was born Esme Faith Reynolds in Staten Island on July third (the day before her older sister's birthday so Annabel calls her siblings 'early birthday presents and claims they didn't want to miss her party) and she was the fourth child born to Kendra and William Reynolds. One of the challenges of having so many siblings is that there isn't always enough attention to go around but most *normal* parents try to even it all out with special outings and such. William Ray Reynolds was never a 'normal' father. He didn't fail too terribly hard with his older girls well Annabel and Beatrice.. He was never much of a father to Courtney. He was honestly more excited about the arrival of his first son than his technical fourth daughter but surprise surprise - that little girl stole his heart the first time that he held her. He was reluctant to put Cooper do
wn for even a second but he was eventually forced to when his young son needed a bottle and his newborn daughter needed to be soothed back to sleep. He didn't put her down after that for the rest of the night and spent every spare minute with her. She slept on his chest at night, napped on the couch with him during the day and he was just captivated. It wasn't hard to see that she was his child with her sassy little attitude even from a young age and her strives to be the best no matter what.
Soccer was important to William and despite the fact that she didn't really enjoy it that much, she sucked it up and played to keep her position as 'favorite' daughter. She wanted to be the best daughter that she could be even going as far as going into cheerleading when she was in the second grade to try and compete with her sisters who were all stars at her age. Cheer wasn't the only fun thing that she was introduced to at that age - she also met Mark Armando Daniels who quickly became her best friend. Neither of them were normal children and those 'unique' qualities bonded them for life. She no longer considers him to be her best friend - he's her brother. He's just as much a member of her family as her own siblings and she wouldn't have it any other way. She also found her way into a group of girls with Isabel Mason though she seemed to be more of Cooper's friend than her's, Caroline Bouvier, Ingrid Sinclair and a boy named Jackson Chase Parrish but more on him later.
She never saw anything wrong with her childhood at the time but looking back, she realizes that it probably wasn't the best idea for her father to give her sips of alcohol or let her sit in a smokey room while he was having his poker night. She was also allowed to come along with him when he went to places that children shouldn't go like say strip clubs and she was often babysat by the various woman. She learned how to dance on a pole when she was only ten years old! What kept her from completely losing her childhood and innocence at that age was having a friend like Mark to be silly with. He was the rock that kept her stable and she often spent nights at his house to avoid the conflict that awaited her at home. She didn't understand why her younger brother was such a form of chaos or why her parents fought so much about her and her siblings. She didn't quite get the concept of divorce or broken homes or why her mother was always saying that she 'couldn't wait to be free'.
She never saw it coming when she woke up one morning and found out that her mother had left in the middle of the night with Beatrice, Cooper, Peyton, Lorelai and Prescott. She couldn't wrap her finger around why someone would take all of her siblings except her and it was a wonderful blessing that William stepped up and became the father that he needed to be. He didn't know how to do the household chores like cooking or cleaning so they learned together and over time, she discovered her true love for baking and cooking. She saw her siblings every weekend when they came to visit and they were all quite surprised that she'd become such a good little chief making these huge feasts at such a young age. Food brought a sense of togetherness and she found herself turning to it for comfort in ways that she hadn't before. This caused her to put on about ten pounds and William found himself wanting nothing more than to put a stop to it.
He started doing 'weigh ins' with her whole soccer team to shame her into dropping the pounds which worked like a charm. She felt like a whale compared to those other girls! She didn't want to feel like that ever again so she slowly started eating just a little bit less and working out just a little bit more until she was running on nearly no food and an intense exercise schedule. Nobody really tried to stop it because she still seemed so happy. She didn't look sickly in her own eyes even if it was starting to get some of her teachers to raise a few eyebrows. Her thirteenth birthday was spent in the emergency room after she passed out during soccer practice from malnutrition which finally got her family to realize that things weren't okay and she did need help of some sort. She was admitted to in patient treatment for anorexia and spent seventy-one days there until she was at a healthy weight and her doctors believed that she could handle the temptation to go back to her unhealthy ways. She credits most of her recovery not to her family or the doctors but her inspiring best friend who made her laugh when all that she wanted to do was cry. She swears that if not for Mark then she wouldn't be here right now and that's a scary thought.
Her year wasn't entirely awful! She was dating the aforementioned Jackson Parrish and she'd recently became best friends with a boy named Dallas Kennedy. She thought that her life was going really well as long as she ignored the urges to skip meals. She found it to be a constant battle with herself to just pick up the fork and take a bite of whatever she was having and she typically did. She didn't want to end up right back in the hospital and she hated how scared that her typically strong father appeared. She never wanted anyone to have to worry about her again which is why she didn't tell anyone at first when her boyfriend started getting well.. different. He didn't like it when she would hang out with Mark or Dallas or really anyone other than him. It started off as just him yelling when she did something that he didn't like which she could tolerate with no issue. It hurt when he'd call her things like 'fat', 'cunt' or 'bitch' especially when he'd do things like moo at her when she'd go to get something to eat but it wasn't anything to whine about, right? At least he wasn't hitting her! Verbal insults aren't abuse.
She kept telling herself that until it did become abuse and he did hit her. He was being abused at home and just taking his anger and frustration out on her to make himself feel better but she didn't realize that then. She couldn't figure out why someone who was supposed to love her could ever be so cruel to her! She'd never done anything like this to him nor could she imagine ever wanting him to feel as low and helpless as she did. He constantly apologized and told her that he loved her, how it'd never ever happen again but it always did and eventually she couldn't take it anymore. She pressed charges after eight months and things slowly started getting back to normal for her. She went to the hair salon and dyed her hair red which was the start of a new era for her. She'd gone from blonde to brunette for Jackson so it felt nice to finally be doing this for herself.
She started having various sexual adventures with people far too old for her and lost her virginity at fifteen. One week later, she started dating Dallas Kennedy. He was the best and the worst thing that could have happened to her. She believed that they were infinite in all of their glory even if neither of them were the most faithful people in the world. They lasted a year and a half before breaking up and she once again found herself feeling lost. She again began having sex with everyone and anyone who would give her the time of day without a thought about the possible risks involved like diseases and pregnancy. She even slept with a guy and couldn't say the right name! How terrible was that? She believed that she was in love with a boy named Wyatt Parks who she was having frequent sexual interactions with after soccer practice but he ended up disappointing her when she found out that he was dating a Angry little midget.
She turned to Hudson Phelps for some good old fashioned comforting and she actually believed that they would end up sticking together in the long run. She didn't see herself ever betraying his trust until she turned to Jonathan Russel out of fear. She was so scared of falling in love with Hudson that she had sex with Jon just to prove that she didn't have feelings! She didn't realize it then but she and Jonathan were doing so much more than just hooking up. They were creating a tiny human being who would change their lives for the best. She found out that she was pregnant six weeks after the hook up and she had already became 'official' with Hudson during this time so in her not so thought out logic, she believed that Hudson would be a father to this baby and Jon would just step down. Things didn't work out like that and their reactions ended up being the opposite of what she'd expected. Jonathan wanted to be involved and Hudson got upset which makes sense now that she thinks about it but it was damn near heartbreaking in the moment,
Fate has a funny way of stepping in sometimes and she found herself falling in love for her baby daddy at the boardwalk. The pair didn't begin dating right away as both of them had partners of their own but they eventually couldn't fight it anymore and began a relationship. She and Hudson broke up during a school camping trip and he ended his relationship shortly after. Her pregnancy wasn't without difficulty - Angry little midget wished death upon her unborn child and unfortunately, it actually happened. She was carrying twins in her uterus without knowing it and one of them didn't make it past the first trimester. Her miscarriage terrified her and made her realize that she needed to do the best possible things for her body if she wanted her remaining child to survive. She tried to eat right, exercise moderately and remain calm even though the thought of being a mother at sixteen was horrifying. Her and Jonathan got engaged when she was about seven months pregnant and she even got her father to agree to sign off on the marriage. Everything was really looking up for them... Until they broke up.
She was feeling guilty and insecure like she was forcing him to settle down and she broke things off in the hopes that one day they would end up back in each other's arms. She was so depressed after the break up that she and Dallas went to Maine for a little while! She wanted to stay forever but he eventually forced her to come back home where she was welcomed back by Hudson Phelps who she got back together with. It was probably too much too soon but she didn't want to be alone when she had her daughter so she wasn't looking at this logically.
Cassidy Russel was born on February fifteenth at three in the morning after an intense, long labor that left her mother emotionally and physically exhausted. She was completely worth it though and she'll openly state that being a teenage mother is one of the hardest things that a person could do but the most fulfilling. Her love life started to fail once her daughter was born.. She was realizing that she wanted to be with someone who loved her daughter and was genuinely excited about being in her life and she felt like Hudson just wasn't. She was expecting him to love her daughter like his own when she just wasn't his baby and never would be. She once again cheated on Hudson with Jonathan and the pair broke things off for good when he found out. She didn't immediately jump right into a relationship with Jon and actually enjoyed the single life for a couple of months until they did reunite when Cici was about five months old. They got married officially shortly after and she became Esme Faith Russel.
This past year hasn't been the easiest but they've stuck it out together. They'd lost several different friends to various tragedies from the school shooting this last November to cancer that left Gavin Morgan weak. None of this has been fair or deserved but they somehow managed to find the good in the world again.. Maybe it's because she's twenty-three weeks pregnant with another beautiful little girl who will be named Ariel Dallas Russel. Those little girls and her husband are constant reminders to Esme of how far that she's come and they are the very reason that she gets up in the morning despite the fact that she has no idea what she's doing with her life most of the time. She's given up all of her dreams to be the best possible mother and wife and she's completely okay with that. She wouldn't have it any other way.
