'You can do this, it's just the same as Franklin, only ... bigger', Crysta told her reflection, trying to keep her voice steady. It was literally two days since she'd arrived in New York, and a mere six hours since she found out she'd be performing that night. Matt, her eldest brother, had called her up that morning babbling on about a last minute cancellation at a bar in the city and he told her to meet him at his shop at 5pm, and that was all Crysta knew.
Of course now she was more filled in on the subject, and she'd even had chance to invite Rusty, as she promised she would. Crysta let out a loud sigh and shook her head then looked up at the mirror and gave herself a huge grin. Now it was time to find Rusty. Standing up Crysta made her way out in to the crowded bar, she pushed through the crowds her eyes searching for Rusty.

{ www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=78849661 } Rusty had gotten to the bar pretty early. After flashing a rather convincing fake I.D. (made by his fantastic older brother), he'd made his way inside and sat himself at a table pretty near the stage. Crysta told him that she and her brothers were going to be performing. And if that was the case, then he definitely wanted to be up close. He'd been sitting for not five minutes when a waiter approached him. So he wouldn't have to go through the trouble of faking his age again, Rusty just settled for a lemonade. The lights on stage were being tested, bright colors flashing all around him. This was so exciting! Deciding he should probably go to the bathroom before it started, Rusty stood from his chair and turned to search out the "men's" sign. But instead, he noticed Crysta. "Crys! Hey Crysta!" Rusty cupped his hands around his mouth to shout to her. A couple people gave him weird looks but I mean whatever. Not like he cared.

Crysta was just going to head outside to see if Rusty was waiting out there when she heard her name being called. Turning around she spotted Rusty sat at a table with a glass of what looked like ... lemonade in front of him. Crysta laughed and made her way over, 'Hi!', she shouted over the music, giving Rusty a small wave, then she thought what the hell and flung her arms around Rusty giving him a hug.
'I'm really nervous!', she said in to Rusty's ear as she hugged him, when she pulled away she made a face and shrugged, not knowing what else to say. Across the room her brothers were waving frantically to get her attention, then they started making kissy faces and Crysta rolled her eyes and turned back to Rusty.

"Hey!" Rusty returned the greeting as she threw her arms over his shoulders. Blushing, Rusty put his arms around her waist and pulled her in for a hug. "Nah you'll do fine, don't be nervous!" he said into her ear like she'd done. He noticed her brothers, too, over her shoulder and smiled. If he'd had a little sister, he probably would've done the same. Jess would've done this to him too if he were here.
"How long do you guys play for?" Rusty was practically shouting as he backed up from the hug a bit and smiled at her. She looked so good tonight.. the clothes were stunning, her hair, the makeup. She looked like a legit rockstar and that made Rusty smile.

'About thirty to forty minutes', Crysta replied, though she didn't look too sure, it was her brothers that knew all this information, not her. Right now Matt and Tyler had disappeared backstage, and Crysta wondered whether to follow them, but that would mean leaving Rusty on his own again, and she didn't want to do that, she'd just found him!
'Are you drinking lemonade?', Crysta asked, trying to change the subject to make her feel less nervous. They were both underage but Crysta always had her brothers around to buy her alcohol, which they never objected to doing. Crysta made a mental note to get some drinks back stage for after the show.
{ Sorry, early, lost for words. }

Rusty nodded and laughed a bit when she asked if his drink was lemonade. "Yea, ha," he chuckled, picking up the glass and swirling it around. "I didn't wanna have to go through the shit of proving my age again," he added, leaning his face into her a bit so he wasn't just outright yelling that he'd gotten into this bar with a fake I.D. Backing off a bit, Rusty shrugged. "Doesn't matter, I like lemonade," he said with a cute smile before taking a sip and climbing back onto his chair. It was a high chair, a bar chair probably, but set at this little round table in the middle of which sat an orange candle.
"How much time do you have before you go on? Want a.. want a lemonade?" he joked, lifting his glass to her and giggling a bit.

Crysta giggled and climbed up on a chair next to Rusty, 'I think I've got five minutes or something', she replied, not really knowing herself. Wow, this gig was well planned. Was there even a set list? Looked like she'd find that out in five minutes.
'No you're okay', Crysta replied to Rusty's offer of lemonade, 'I'm strictly on iced tea before a show, you know, tradition or whatever', she replied, gesturing towards the backstage area where her icedtea sat on a table.
Out of nowhere Crysta let out a high pitched squeal and grabbed Rusty's arm, 'I'm fucking excited and nervous!', she cried, and unable to contain her nervous energy she jumped down from her chair and bounced around the table.

"Ah so you guys are that kind of band," Rusty said when she gestured to her iced tea, assuming it was some sort of good luck/bad luck tradition they'd had since they'd formed the band. And when she grabbed his arm, Rusty couldn't help but smile. "You're gonna do so good! And you better teach me how to sing and be awesome cuz.. cuz I said so," he said as she jumped around, keeping his eyes on her.
"Oh hey, Tyler's waving me down and pointing. I think its time to go," he said a minute later, grabbing Crysta's shoulders to stop her from bouncing around the table. "Break a leg, kiddo. But don't actually cuz crutches are no fun," he said with a smile as he pushed her towards Tyler.

'I guess we are yeah', Crysta replied, still bouncing. Matt and Tyler had their own special pre-show traditions, and Crysta had hers. They'd sort of just formed over time. Tyler actually claimed to wear the same underwear for every show without washing them, which was disgusting, and probably true, though no one wanted to check.
Crysta was still bouncing around when Rusty grabbed her shoulders and pushed her forward towards her brother. Before she ran off Crysta turned around and hugged Rusty, 'I'll be careful not to land myself in crutches', she replied, and with that she ran off towards Tyler.

It was a mere two minutes later that Crysta was been guided out on to the darkened stage by a roadie, in her hand she held a bottle of iced tea and a hastily written out set list. Crysta could see in the darkness that some of the tables surrounding the stage had been pushed back to create a sort of dance floor, which a few people were milling around on. Was Rusty one of them? Crysta couldn't quite make him out.
All of a sudden the room went quiet, then the lights blazed on and the drums kicked in, Crysta took a deep breath, ready to sing.

As Crysta walked away, Rusty was suddenly being pushed to the side by a couple large guys in black, tucked in shirts. They told him he'd be able to sit back down in a minute, they just needed the tables cleared out of the middle. At first Rusty had been a bit defiant, but as soon as they'd explained what was going on, he set down his lemonade and proceeded to help them move the tables. Once everything was set up on either side of this newly cleared space, Rusty retook his seat at the table. Which, actually, was closer tot he stage than before. Just now, rather than in the middle, it was off to the side. Either way, he was closer and if Crysta got close enough, he could probably touch her leg. Not that he would. That's weird.
As the lights went out then came back, Rusty smiled up at Crysta who looked incredibly nervous. She was still clutching her tea, and a there was a piece of paper too. She seemed to be looking for something... she was kind of squinting. Rusty got the feeling she was searching for him, but stayed where he was anyway. A couple people had moved into the open space on the floor, walking around like dazed farm animals. There wasn't even any music yet.. Rusty thought it kind of silly how they were all so ready to mosh. He could guarantee that not one of them even knew what kind of music this would be. Chuckling at the idea of them headbanging to gospel music, Rusty took a sip of his lemonade and looked up to a balcony where there was a man announcing Crysta's band. When he said to please welcome them to the stage, Rusty put a fist in the air and hollered a bit before yelling "Four for you, Crysta Coco!".
