Crysta let out an exaggerated sigh as she headed over to a table and took a seat, 'I'm really disappointed you don't have a unicorn Rusty, like ... You've let me down', she shook her head and looked down at her drink for a moment before bursting in to laughter, 'No, but it's cool you're still skateboarding, remember you tried to teach me once? I thin I managed thirty seconds on the thing before I just fell on the floor', Crysta winced remembering the ordeal.

"I'm sorry I've let you down, master," Rusty said, playing along with the disappointed tone as he too looked down at his drink then burst out in a riot of giggles. "Ha, yea I do remember that! I could teach you again, y'know. Some other time when I've got my spare board," he said after calming down a bit and taking a sip of his hot chocolate. It had cooled a bit, and was much easier to swallow. "Lessons will cost you, tho. One singing lesson for one skateboarding lesson. Deal?"
(wow that's short. you can go to bed now haha)

'Deal', Crysta replied, holding out her hand for them to shake on it. Once they'd shook hands Crysta took another drink of her hot chocolate which was a lot sweeter than she'd have liked, but then again, what did she expect? It was hot chocolate after all.
'So does Ryan not go to Somerset then?', Crysta asked, thinking back to Rusty saying he had no friends here, she couldn't imagine the pair having fallen out, she could only assume Ryan went to another High School.

After shaking Crysta's hand, Rusty chuckled again and wrapped his hands around the mug of hot chocolate. He hadn't thought he was cold outside, but now that he was somewhere warm, he was realizing just how chilled he really was. The cup felt nice against his hands.
He'd been smiling all the while, up until Crysta mentioned Ryan. That was a sore subject. "Oh ah.. no. No not really," Rusty said, his cheerful mood quite suddenly switched to a very down and sad one. He didn't look at her. "Ryan uh.. Ryan died last year." Rusty sniffed, pulling a hand up from his mug to wipe under his nose as he kept his eyes on the table.

Crysta froze, her smile vanished and she let out a startled gasp, tears immediately stung her eyes. Yes it had been years since she'd spoken to Ryan, but that didn't matter, her childhood friend was dead, and she hadn't even known. Crysta reached out her hand wrapping it firmly around Rusty's.
'I'm so sorry Russ...', she said quietly, 'I didn't know, I'm really sorry', she bit her lip as a few tears escaped her eyes and slid down her cheeks. 'I don't know what to say now, I've ruined the mood', she half joked with a weak smile. What are you meant to say in a situation like this? Crysta was used to being positive about everything, but how could you make the death of a friend a positive? You couldn't, it was impossible.

Rusty lightened up a bit when Crysta took his hand. He tried to smile, but it just came off as one of those sad, forced smirks. "Its okay, you didn't know," he said, looking up at her from the top of his eyes. "We uh," he sniffed again and looked up completely, running a hand back over his forehead and sighing heavily, "We should do something fun. Don't think about Ry, okay? He's happy somewhere.. so we should be too, right?"
It wasn't like Rusty to switch off the thoughts of Ryan so easily. If he'd been with anyone else, he probably would've just decided to go home and watch old movies he and Ryan used to watch together. But this was different. Crysta was a childhood friend, just like Ryan. He'd thought for a while that he'd lost them both. Crysta was who knew where and Ryan was dead. They were both gone from his life forever. But being with Crysta now.. having the chance to rekindle their friendship. That meant something to him. It gave him strength, hope. And he smiled.
"I really missed you," Rusty said after a moment, tilting his head to the side while still holding her hand.

'I really missed you too', Crysta replied, giving Rusty's hand a squeeze. For a moment she just sat there, holding Rusty's hand, her eyes fixed on the table.
'Let's get out of here, go do something fun, right?', Crysta stood up, her cup still half-full of hot chocolate she really didn't want to drink. Finding her grin again Crysta smiled at Rusty before pulling him to his feet and heading for the door, his hand still enclosed in hers.
