[/i] Crysta Ericson thought to herself as she skipped down the last two steps of the Schools entrance. First days were always tough, or so she'd heard, she'd not really had all that many to compare this one to, it certainly hadn't been a picnic. Not that she was one to complain. There had just been a lot of paperwork, and getting lost, and having to ask for help, which she hated. Then there was all the questions, people asking her if she was new, where she was from, yadda yadda yadda. Usually she wouldn't mind but her parents had dropped her off at the School yesterday night, and she was feeling a little sleep deprived. It had taken her all night to unpack, because there was no way she'd have slept in a room piled high with boxes, what if there was an avalanche?! Crysta sighed and rubbed her arms as she walked over to a small patch of grass with some benches and trees dotted around. Goose bumps appeared on her arms and she let out a small laugh at the abnormality of it. New York weather was going to take awhile to adjust to, and she regretted not bringing a jacket out with her. Despite the cold she decided to stay outside a little longer and took a seat on a bench, crossing her legs and hugging her arms across her chest. [/sup] [/center]

Rusty was grateful when the day had come to an end. School was boring, as usual, and he was dying to get outside. He'd forgotten to leave his skateboard in his dorm and since it was now strapped to his backpack, it was doing nothing more than distracting him and reminding him that he'd be able to ride it in two hours, one hour, a half hour, ten minutes... then the bell rang. And when it did, Rusty was the first up and out the door, down the hall, and bursting through the doors. Surely others had gotten out before him, seeing as his classroom was quite a ways away from the main door. But he was certainly the first from his class. It was a bit cold out, so after dropping his backpack and unhooking his skateboard, he reached into the pack for a gray hoodie. And after zipping it up, replacing the pack across his back and buckling the front, Rusty stepped down the few stairs and onto his board. All throughout the day, Rusty had been thinking about nothing more than getting outside and boarding. But now that he thought about it.. he had no where to go. There was absolutely nothing to do today and now that Sally had moved, he had no friends to go check in on. Well, no friends that he really wanted to check in on anyway. So after rounding the quad a couple times, he gave into the scenery and waltzed across the green grass, board under his arm, towards a circling of benches. A girl with bright hair sat on one, so he took the nearest seat. "Hey," he greeted, almost absentmindedly without even looking at her. It wasn't a 'hey, let's have a conversation' greeting, more of a 'hey, i'm acknowledging your existence' greeting. Certainly nothing that should've lead into a conversation. Just a little something to not be so rude. But he'd probably ruined that by keeping his eyes on hers. There was something familiar about her.. he just couldn't put his finger on it. Thinking about it still, Rusty dropped his board and set his backpack beside him before pulling out his phone and setting it on his thigh.

Crysta had been almost too occupied pulling at a loose thread on her jeans to notice the guy sitting down next to her. 'Hey', she replied with a small smile glancing over to get a look at the guy. Wait ... Crysta had meant it just to be a quick glance, but her eyes were glued on him. Was that? No ... It couldn't be ... Rusty? Crysta's smile stretched wider and wider, as the realisation dawned on her that she might not be totally alone at this School. 'Rusty?', Crysta asked, leaning toward the guy, hoping she wasn't wrong.

Rusty, confused about how she knew his name, leaned back a bit, cocking a brow. "Yes..?" he asked cautiously, suddenly fearing that this girl might actually be the most dangerous secret agent in the world and for some reason had been hired to kill him. But the more he looked at her, the less scared he became. She knew him, or at least his name, so maybe the earlier realization that she looked familiar wasn't so false.
"Do I know you?" he spoke again, this time in a bit more of a welcoming tone. There was still an awkward feeling about the air, though, so it still sounded a bit curious. Instinctively, Rusty's hands went to his phone, but his eyes stayed on the girl's. She was studying him. It felt really weird.

'Crysta', Crysta said gesturing at herself unnessasarily, 'We used to live across the street from each other, remember?', she added excitedly. Seeing as he'd answered to the name Rusty she figured this was the same kid she'd grown up with. Hopefully he remembered her ... Crysta had a sudden fear that Rusty might have been a car accident or something, what if he had amnesia?! Then she shook her head realising how stupid that was. 'You know ... Crystal, I had two big brothers, ginger hair...', she trailed off wondering if any of this was ringing a bell.

Rusty's eyes grew large the minute she said they used to live across from each other. "Holy fucking Christ.. Crysta!" he shouted, then practically launched himself at her, wrapping his arms around her shoulders. "Dude, its been so long!" he was still yelling, swaying back and forth a bit now as he squeezed her tight. After letting go, he flew back to where he'd been sitting, mouth hanging open.
"Dude.. dude. Dude. This is fucking crazy," he said, still not completely believing that this was the girl he'd grown up with. She'd been his best friend! She'd hung out with him and Ryan almost every day! Oh man, and there was that thought of Ryan... Dropping his head, Rusty looked down at his phone before pushing it into the pocket of his sweatpants. But he shook the thought from his head, and returned his eyes to Crysta's. "Holy shit, man," he said, smiling and shaking his head in disbelief. "I haven't seen you in years. This is so weird. And I'm sorry I crushed you."

Crysta beamed as Rusty flung himself at her, she wasn't expecting such a warm welcome, but was glad for it. It had been way too long. Just seeing Rusty brought back memories of camping out, skateboarding down driveways, eating pizza, kid stuff, stuff she missed. Once Rusty had backed off again Crysta did her best to get her breath back. 'This is fucking insane!', she exclaimed throwing her hands up in the air, she knelt up on the bench, edging closer to Rusty on her knees, 'You haven't even changed! Well, except your hair isn't blonde but ... How've you been?', there were so many things she wanted to ask but that seemed simplest for now.

Rusty smiled and put his hand up under his hat when she said his hair wasn't blonde anymore. "Ha, yea man I let it go back natural. Bleach is so yesterday," he joked, smiling so broad his face would probably start hurting any minute now. "And I mean I know I look exactly the same but you..." he looked her over and shook his head, "You've certainly grown up. And I mean that in the least creepy way possible." Laughing again, Rusty readjusted himself so one knee was up on the bench.
"I've been good, real good. I mean coulda been better, had some ups and downs.. but as of late I'm pretty swell," he said, nodding his head to the side a bit and reminiscing. It had been so long since they'd seen each other. How many years? Probably at least four. Did that mean she didn't know about Ryan's death? He wasn't sure, but he didn't want to think about it. "How about you?" he asked, squinting his eyes. "You just fuckin' up and left one day I don't even know where you went! Did you like, move to Canada? Canada's pretty cool, I hope you brought some bacon."

'Thankyou?', Crysta laughed when Rusty commented on her having grown up, she wasn't sure if it was a compliment, or he was just stating a fact. Nodding along to Rusty's answer she figured she'd ask him about the 'downs' later on, as she had no intention of letting Rusty escape her now, she was going to cling to this boy for the rest of High School if need be.
'Oh, yeah, that', Crysta grimaced when he mentioned her leaving, 'My dad got this new job in Tennessee, not Canada, sorry bud. They decided to leave it until the last minute to tell us, you know, so we wouldn't try and run or whatever. Didn't even chance to get chance to say goodbye to my grandma, let alone you and Ryan', she pulled a face at Rusty and shrugged, couldn't change the past.

"Mm, yea," Rusty nodded along, trying to understand. He'd only ever moved once, and that was from his home to here at Somerset. "Well I mean that's cool, man. Tennessee.. that's pretty cool."
Kicking at his skateboard, Rusty picked at a loose thread on his sweatpants. "So you're a big shot junior now, huh? I got held back a year. I'm still a sophomore," he asked, trying to spark conversation. He knew she was his age, but figured she was a junior because, well, most seventeen year olds are. Then there was him. Stuck as a sophomore.
(ew goodness such a short post)
