Full Name:
Adelaide Naomi Ashman-Lockett
Age:
Sixteen
Gender:
Female
Appearance:
A fine slice of blonde.
Personality:
Adelaide considers herself to be 'perfectly imperfect'. She knows that she has flaws just like everyone else. (aside from Isabel Mason who believes she's a perfect goddess but that's another story) She's very kind which can be both a good thing and a not so good thing. It's like a double edged sword because it often leads her to getting used but she believes that if she wasn't nice then she would be just as hated as Chelsea St. James. She doesn't seem to realize that a person can be considered nice without becoming a total and complete spineless jellyfish. It's like she's physically incapable of telling someone 'no' and in some ways, she is.
Her father's treatment towards her as caused her to almost panic whenever she's forced to tell someone that she can't do something. Her palms get sweaty and she can barely breath let alone choke out the words to kindly let someone down. How could she be cruel to anyone? She also has a small okay major fear of being touched sexually. She doesn't know how she's ever going to be in a stable relationship when the idea of a guy touching her private area makes her want to dry heave.. Okay she literally dry heaves though it's not entirely her fault that she has this fear, it can make her come off a little prude-ish.
Background:
Mitchell and Jasmine met in high school and bonded over their shared dream of becoming famous for their music. They actually had potential and their band was slowly rising to fame when they hit a bump in the road - Jasmine found out that she was pregnant during a tour around Chicago when she threw up on an unsuspecting fan who happened to be holding an egg salad sandwich just a little too close to her. The couple discussed what they considered to be all of their options meaning abortion to adoption in length before going to the doctor to find out exactly how far along that she was. They had decided that if she was less than nine weeks than they'd abort and over then they'd place the child up for adoption as not to ruin their dreams. She'd waited awhile before testing for pregnancy and excused her lack of menstrual cycle with her increased levels of stress so she didn't see a doctor until she was twelve weeks pregnant. They nodded along as the doctor rattled on about prenatals, appointments and estimated due dates until finally, he did an ultrasound. Suddenly, everything changed in that instant. How could they give this little thing up? It even had a heartbeat!
The band was less than enthusiastic about the fact that they were planning on bringing a baby on board but what were they suppose to do? Kick the lead singer and lead guitarist out of their band? They would be nothing without them and they knew that so they accepted this. They actually did eventually grow to love the 'little blip' as they called the unborn child and they were even there when she was born. It wasn't really by choice considering that she was born on the tour bus in the middle of traffic. They actually planned an unassisted birth on the bus but she got scared so they started driving to the hospital but Adelaide just couldn't wait. Despite being quite excited to be parents, Jasmine and Mitchell did not have a name for their blessing so they asked around and everyone shared reasons as to why they liked certain names. One of their band members, Carly, suggested Adelaide because it was the name of her aunt who taught her how to drum and inspired her to live her life to the fullest. Naomi was after Mitchell's mother and adding Jasmine's last name 'Ashman' to her name was to honor her father since he'd never had a son to carry on the family name.
They didn't think far enough into this to realize that Adelaide Naomi Ashman-Lockett would make her initials 'anal' which they now joke fits because that was the position that they conceived in which makes Adelaide cringe every single time that they say especially in front of her friends. She was never supposed to grow up touring nor was it the lifestyle that her parents wanted for her to experience but they couldn't just give it up overnight. Things were rough for awhile. Have you ever tried living on a tour bus with a newborn who hates the motion of driving? Yeah, she cried almost constantly which led to a very large argument among the band. It wouldn't have caused the break up if everyone wasn't so sleep deprived but well nobody had slept in three weeks and they just couldn't take one more second. Mitchell and Jasmine didn't see eye to eye on the issue either.
See he didn't want to give this up just yet. He didn't want to be a stereotypical father and husband despite being a father and husband. He still wanted to go out every night.. Smoke weed, get wasted, everything that he should have given up when they decided that they were going to keep their baby. This ultimately led to Jasmine leaving the band and Mitchell staying.
He didn't speak to her again (though he paid consistent child support) until Adelaide's first birthday when he called to check in on them. By this point, she was living in Brooklyn with her new boyfriend, Van and working as a waitress to help pay the bills. Her life was nowhere near what she'd expected it to be but she loved every second of it. Mitchell, on the other hand, had only became a shell of his former self. He was addicted to hardcore drugs and only called because his new little fling piece 'loved babies' and wanted to meet his daughter. Jasmine let the trio spend an afternoon together despite her better judgement and that's her biggest regret to this day because she knows what emotional torture that this ended up leading to.
He was in and out of his daughter's life for years mostly when he felt like he needed to impress a new girlfriend but his attention only lasted as long as the relationship which was never more than a month or two. He made empty promises without any guilt because he wasn't the one who had to sooth a crying five year old when she was wondering why 'daddy didn't show up' to her birthday party or first ballet rehearsal. Jasmine was left to make up excuse after excuse for him as to why he couldn't make it. She even started forging letters and cards to try and explain the absence which looking back was a terrible choice. She just hated seeing her daughter so devastated over someone who didn't give a damn about her or anyone else for that matter.
It was hard to ignore it when she got older and he started hitting her up for money. Yeah, he was probably the only father who called their ten year old and asked for money. Adelaide was still very desperate for his attention and went along with it. She sent him whatever money that she could manage to get her hands on - allowance, helping the neighbors clean their basements or yards.. Whatever she needed to do to earn his affection but he never gave it. He didn't even thank her! Well unless raping her when he was high and confused her for her mother counts as thanking her.
