After she got off the phone with Cooper, Lydia went into the kitchen to make cookies. She believed that chocolate chip cookies could make anyone's day better. But Cooper was probably too upset for sugar to work. She had no idea what was making him feel so bad. Did he honestly think he was an awful person? Sure, he'd done some nasty things, but everyone messes up. And he could always apologize. No, not everyone would forgive him, but apologies were deserved, especially to people like Kegan and Thalia. She had no idea what happened with him and Jett, but she knew he could tell her. It was a little frustrating that he'd already gotten a few hours out of town before he called her, but at least he did, right? He cared enough to give her some kind of heads up before he was just gone. And then he'd agreed to turn around and come see her. She was just hanging out around the house after school, so she didn't feel like changing out of her yoga pants and hoodie. Besides, it was just Cooper. She could probably be naked and he wouldn't care. Wait...He'd been such a gentleman, not pushing her to do anything, especially because she hadn't even made it official yet. She wanted to badly for him to just stop all the waiting and ask her to be his girlfriend, but just as he wasn't forcing her to have sex with him, she was going to force him into a relationship.

Cooper hadn't had any intention of really ever coming back but something was pulling him to do it.. Like this magnetic connection between him and Lydia. He couldn't count the number of times that he had wanted to tell her that he wanted to be her boyfriend but he didn't deserve her yet. He'd gone into a relationship with Estelle when he didn't deserve her and he'd hurt her in a way that he didn't know how to make better but at least she had Gene for that now, right? Who would Lydia go to? The thought of her being with someone else made him feel like his heart was going to break into a dozen different pieces. Why did she already have this affect on him? He hadn't asked her out for several reasons mainly because he didn't deserve her but he also hadn't asked Estelle for permission. It was likely a strange concept to ask your ex-girlfriend whom you cheated on if you could ask someone else to be your new girlfriend but he felt obligated to do so.
He'd hurt her in ways that she certainly didn't deserve. She had been nothing but sweet to him and he'd been playing her every step of the way for Carol fucking Maree and her damn love clouds. He couldn't imagine hurting her more by flaunting his happy relationship in her face when she was with someone who couldn't be there for her.. Damn college! If Eugene was here then he wouldn't have to worry about all of this non-sense.... But he called her during his drive and got the okay so he stopped by he and Beatrice's house to grab the necklace that he'd bought Lydia a couple of weeks ago. He was finally going to be able to give it to her! He'd had a speech prepared somewhere with everything that he wanted to say but he'd read over it and suddenly everything seemed like it didn't make sense anymore. He didn't want this to seem planned and phony!
This had been a long time in the making so it needed to be as special as possible.
The drive from his place to Lydia's was awful! He could barely keep a grip on the steering wheel because his palms were sweating so much. He almost forgot that he was going to have to explain the black eye, bruised nose and split lip to her somehow but she knew about the fight so maybe it wouldn't be such a big deal. He stood in front of her door for at least ten minutes just staring like it was going to magically give him a sign that it was a good idea to knock. How big of a freaking pansy was he? He finally settled on ringing the bell and stood like a perfect gentleman.. He had stolen a dozen roses that Beatrice had to give her so those were the first thing she'd probably see when she opened the door.. Score one team Looper!

Lydia raced from the kitchen to the front door when she heard the bell. Her Coopy was here! Everything always felt better when Cooper was around. They were in the musical together, and it pained her everyday to see Kylie singing as Audrey when she knew that it should be her. Well. Carol, since she originally got the part, but due to the accident it went to her understudy. Still though. She was getting tired of always being second to Carol. And thinking of that fact that her Cooper had been with her...well at least that was all over now!
She swung the door open and the first thing that caught her eyes was the bundle of roses in his hand. He was so sweet! Always so thoughtful and -- "Oh, baby!" She gasped and stepped through the doorway and took his face in her hands. He wasn't kidding about that fight! She would have to have a talk with whoever hurt him, and they better have a good reason. Yes, Cooper had a big mouth, but that was never a reason so hit him and leave marks like this. She pulled him in her house and back to the kitchen to examine him better. "Oh, honey...why didn't you tell me this was so bad? You should have let me take care of you, and now there's nothing I can do." She sat him on one of the bar stools around the island and ran her finger lightly across his lip.
She'd all but forgotten about the flowers he was still holding, and figured now that she'd assessed the damage to her poor Coopy's face, she should thank him for being such a sweetie. "These are beautiful, thank you." She smiled and took the flowers before placing a soft kiss on his cheek. Walked over to the kitchen cabinet by the fridge to grab a vase for her to put the flowers in. They really were beautiful.
As she cut the tips and mixed the water, she started to ask him the questions she'd thought up in the time it'd taken him to get from wherever he was to here. "So why exactly did you think you needed to leave town on a whim like that? Did something happen? Was it this fight? Did you argue with your sister again?" She stopped her hands and had to close her eyes to calm herself, as she was getting all worked up. She couldn't stop thinking of what she would have done had Cooper never come back. She'd been depending on him for everything! Her was like her rock, he'd been taking care of her, and he didn't even mind her diva antics. And on top of that...she just loved him. She saw the good in him that no one else ever looked for. She knew the Cooper he kept underneath it all, the Cooper she'd never want to lose.
Keeping her eyes close, she felt a tear roll down her cheek and was so happy that he couldn't see her right now with her back turned. "Why would you leave me?" Her voice gave everything away. Even though he couldn't see her face, it was very clear that she was crying.
