Sushi Pop was a small and quaint little restaurant that served Japanese-style dishes, mainly sushi as the name suggests. There were no more than ten tables and a free soft serve ice cream machine with two flavors--vanilla and chocolate-- for dessert. Diego chose this place because the food was good and the prices were even better. Not that he was a cheapskate, but just because something is expensive doesn't mean that it's good. Plus, he wanted Bronwyn's first time eating sushi to be a good experience.
"After you," he announced as he held the door open for Bronwyn. He wore a black dress shirt with the first button undone, revealing the silver cross necklace around his neck, and khaki bottoms. The sleeves were neatly rolled up to his elbows and he completed the look with a black leather belt and dress shoes.
Stepping into the restaurant behind her, Diego rested a hand on Bronwyn's upper back to guide her to the front counter. "See, we order here and they'll bring it out to us. There's the sushi menu over there," he said, pointing to the boards on the wall. "It doesn't have to be raw, either," he explained with a grin. Truth be told, Diego has never tried raw sushi himself.

( www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=74635680 ) Compared to Diego, Bronwyn felt incredibly under dressed. He looked fantastic, as always and well, she looked casual. As if she didn't care about their date. Was this even a date? Maybe Diego was just concerned about her missing out on the deliciousness of eating sushi. He was a good old chap' from the beginning. Whatever his reason was of bringing her to Sushi Pop, she thought it was nice of him. "Thank you, fine sir." Bronwyn thanked him enthusiastically while stepping inside of the restaurant. She looked around before turning her head slightly to look back. When she felt Diego's hand, she smiled softly to herself before looking forward to where he explained was the menu. Bronwyn brought a finger to her lower lip while looking through the menu posted on the wall. She squinted her eyes a little. "Well, I have heard of the California roll, it's usually the favorite..." she stated and then turned on her heel before facing him, "I think you should go ahead and order for the two of us." Bronwyn smiled big, tilting her head up to look at him. "I'm trusting you on this one, Diego. Now don't disappoint me." she said, looking to him sternly with a raised eyebrow.

Glancing down at her, Diego gave a slight chuckle as if he could tell that Bronwyn was comparing their outfits. To him, this was casual. I mean, look at the khakis! And the exposed neck! Oh, the indecency! Of course, Bronwyn looked beautiful all by herself, without the help of clothes. Wait, not that he pictured her naked. Oh, boy. Diego squinted his eyes as he mentally argued with himself.
"Er... yeah. The California roll's a classic," he said, clearing his throat. "But it's pretty boring if you ask me. I want you to try the Shaggy Dog. It's my favorite," he said, pointing towards the bottom of the menu boards. "And what kind of drink would you like? I'll get a coke," Diego told the cashier. He waited for Bronwyn's drink of choice before completing the order with several different sushi rolls and even a bowl of miso soup. The two of them were going all out.
With their order complete and paid for by the man himself, Diego chose a table closest to the wall so that they could have a little privacy. His least favorite place to sit in a restaurant was near the door. He hated the distraction of people walking in and out as he ate.
"So what have you been up to, Wynnie the Poo? What would you be doing on this fine night had I not scooped you up?" he asked playfully, trying to strike up a conversation.

Yes, well the exposed neck was something Bronwyn was digging. It was strange, it was such a little attribute to his wardrobe and yet it made her curious. However, despite her age, Bron thought way ahead of it. She knew that there was absolutely nothing wrong with what she was thinking and it was why she kept her temper cool. Nothing nervous, of any sort.
"Shaggy Dog?" Bronwyn asked with an intrigued look on her face. It sounded like dog sushi which was not appetizing at all although she was sure that in some countries dog was a delicacy. She couldn't possibly imagine feasting on a poor pup. However, she was in her right mind and she knew that they were not going to eat actual dog. She then looked to the cashier and said, "I'll have a Sprite please." with a soft smile before looking to Diego as he continued ordering more and more food. She was honestly flattered, he was finding his way to her tastes and her tastes were hearty.
Once Diego had finished their order, Bronwyn followed him to their table. She also liked his choice in tables, it seemed that he wanted them to have some place for themselves without the distractions of other people. Bronwyn noticed things like this and it made her feel pretty darn important with Diego. He seemed to be a man of detail but of course, he was the son of Mr. Davenport who was a very respected man. Not to mention, her grandfather simply thought of the man like a son.
Bronwyn hanged her shoulder bag on the edge of her chair before taking a seat and looking to Diego. She placed her elbows on top of the table before moving her hands under her chin. "I would..." she shifted her eyes to the side before looking to her once again, "I would probably be hanging out with my gal friends or cooking for myself or I'd be buying food from a cheap fast food joint." she laughed softly before raising an eyebrow.
"Go Diego Go, what would you be doing if you hadn't taken me out to eat?" she asked with a curious tone. Bronwyn was genuinely curious about that fact.

Diego saw the opportunity and took it. "Yeah. You didn't know the Japanese eat dogs?" he asked in a serious tone and a completely straight face. He waited for her reaction before he continued. "Just kidding. It's called that because the imitation crab meat they put on top of it is all shredded looking, kinda like those sheep dogs," he explained.
Their drinks came out first--two tall glasses of soda with the straws on the side. "Well, then I am honored you skipped burgers and fries for a measly meal with me," he said, putting hand over his heart to emphasize his gratitude. "As for me, my life is not as interesting as yours. We would've just had a family dinner and then watched a movie on TV," he shrugged. Diego loved family time, but it didn't hurt to go out once in a while.
Finally, their food was ready. Out came several plates, the California roll, the Shaggy Dog, three strips of shrimp tempura, and a large bowl of miso soup to name a few, followed by a few more sushi rolls that Diego did not remember the names of. He unwrapped his wooden chopsticks and broke them apart, since they came attached at the end. Glancing up at Bronwyn, he gave her an encouraging smile to do the same.
"Okay this green stuff, I don't know if you know about it, but it's wasabi and it's spicy, but it's a different kind of spicy from peppers. Like, if you put too much, you'll feel it in your nose," he said with an experienced cringe. "And this pink stuff is ginger, which you can eat between each sushi roll so the flavors don't just mush together. Cleanses your palate, if you will," Diego explained everything he could remember and if she had any more questions, he would gladly answer them.

Suddenly the Shaggy Dog sounded appetizing. Bronwyn's weary smile turned into a relaxed one. She then laughed, "I don't quite know what countries eat dogs... I mean, I'm pretty sure it doesn't taste anything unusual. After all, it's just meat." Just the thought of knowing she had eaten a domestic pet made her feel all queasy inside. She too had a dog and she wouldn't want to betray it by eating one of it's kind. "But the sushi sounds good!" she smiled optimistically.
She then lowered a hand to her lap, moving the other to cup the side of her face as she listened to Diego. His lips were her main focus, after all, there was sound coming out of them. She crossed her leg over the other and accidentally hit her knee against the table. "Ouch," Bronwyn whispered before smiling softly and nodding. "That sounds great though." she then stretched her arms out on the table. "Sometimes I want to leave my dorm and live with my family, too."
When the waiter set the plates on the table, Bronwyn looked to them one by one. Afterwards, she thanked the waiter before looking to all the food in front of her. "Wow, okay." she said with widened eyes before she looked to the green stuff as Diego began to explain what it was. She took the small cup and smelled it, it was definitely strong. She blinked away the water that had gathered up in her eyes, "It made me tear up a bit..." she laughed before looking to the pink stuff. "It smells like flowers, I could have sworn they were wet pink rose petals." Bronwyn placed the cup down.
She looked to the sushi rolls and debating on which to try first. "Which one do you think I should try first?" she asked him.

Diego had four dogs and a cat at home, not to mention their large fish tank, so eating dog meat would be one of the very last things on his to-do list. "Well, I'm guessing it's the countries that don't see dogs as pets, but just another form of food," he said thoughtfully. Different cultures had different values. Heck, the Egyptians worshiped cats!
"Poor table," he said with a frown. Looking back up to Bronwyn, Diego gave a sympathetic smile. "I'm sure if my dad wasn't a teacher I'd be living in the dorms, too," he wasn't sure how that would make her feel better, but he said it anyway.
He chuckled when she sniffed the wasabi. Bronwyn did it so quickly that he wasn't able to stop her. "Yeah, it's got a kick to it," he nodded, remembering the time there was no one to warn him and he ate a hearty chunk of wasabi. Crying was an understatement of what happened next.
"Try the California roll," he suggested, taking one for himself and dipping it into the soy sauce. Well, it was more like bathing it in soy sauce because Diego liked to flip it over and dip it again. "I like it soaked," he explained before shoving the entire roll into his mouth.
As he chewed, he waited for Bronwyn's thoughts on one of his favorite foods. Some people didn't like sushi and it was okay. If she was one of them, he would just order something else for her.

"I have always wondered what would happen if say... I ate a cat in Egypt?" Bronwyn squinted her eyes as she wondered curiously about that rather strange thought. "I suppose I would be executed." she said rather lightheartedly with a shrug.
She then gave Diego a look when he sympathized the table rather than ask her if she was alright. Bronwyn smirked before shaking her head. "I really want to move out. Sometimes I can't stand this school, the only reason why I do is because if my grandpa can do it, why can't I?" she pursed her lips together. "Although, he manages it more differently than I do, that's for sure." Yes, Mr. Corrigan gave out brochures speaking of "Our Lord" to those who failed their test. Bronwyn was told by Shana that her backpack was filled with those. Her grandfather was a hilarious doozy.
Bronwyn looked to the California roll before looking to Diego when he ate it. Well, it looked delicious when he ate it. However, he could probably eat a Cheeto and it would look scrumptious. She lowered her eyebrows as she split the chopsticks apart and then held them but her hand was a little clumsy and she really had no idea how to hold them. "I'm doing this completely wrong." she laughed.

"Or sentenced to be eaten by cats," Diego shrugged innocently. Who knows, humans are a vengeful race, after all. "I heard cats taste like chicken, though," he joked. Everyone says everything tastes like chicken. Either the flavoring is really strong, or all meat tastes the same. Either way, Diego was not going to find out any time soon.
He rose both eyebrows at Bronwyn when she gave him a look. "What? Have you seen your elbows? You could knock out the entire S.W.A.T. team with those," he said, pointing in the direction of her arms. Of course, he was only being a goofball. Diego and the rest of the Earth's population knew that Bronwyn was as beautiful as they come. "True that, though," he agreed. Mr. Corrigan, bless his heart, was truly a soldier for putting up with this war zone of a school.
Diego glanced up as he stuffed the entire sushi into his mouth. He smiled awkwardly as he began to chew, his food protruding into his cheeks. There was really no way to elegantly consume sushi other than to shove the entire roll in because biting it would tear the seaweed wrap and thus, causing the whole thing to fall apart. However, Diego found himself curious as to how Bronwyn would look as she consumed her first piece of sushi.
"Here, hold the first one like a pencil and then just place the second one right above it," he said with a patient smile before reaching over to help. He had one hand gently wrapped around hers and the other one re-positioning the chopsticks. "Now try it," he said encouragingly. If anything, Diego would just ask for a fork.

A laugh escaped Bronwyn. "Doesn't everything usually taste like chicken?" she knitted her eyebrows and pursing her lips together. She shrugged before looking to her elbows. Bronwyn was a big boned girl.
"No one is ever going to try to mess with me! Just a swing of these babies and swack!" Bronwyn moved her elbow slightly as if hitting someone. She then watched him take the sushi roll inside of his mouth. How did it all just fit there?
Bronwyn glanced down to her hand when he started helping her hold the chopsticks. She was feeling a blush coming through but she wanted to keep cool because she didn't want to look like a total nutcase. Diego was just helping her hold these utensils.
"Alright... Well..." Bronwyn said as she grabbed hold of the California roll she was so desperately trying to grab and brought close to her mouth, "Cheers!" she exclaimed before taking the roll as a whole in her mouth.
She chewed quickly but tried to take in the flavor of it. Her face at first seemed skeptical but after a few seconds, her eyebrows rose in approval. Bronwyn had never tasted something so delicious in her life. Despite that it made her cheeks plump up like a frightened puffer fish, she really liked it!
"This is absolutely delicious!" Bronwyn declared with her mouth a bit full before taking a sip from her soda. She reached out to take some of the ginger, she bit it and somehow the flavor mixed so well with the ingredients that made up the California roll.
