Name: Lina Ray Parson
It’s pronounced “Lee-nah” and there’s no possible way to shorten it, so don’t assign me any wacky nicknames, please and thank-you.
Age: Lina is seventeen, and was born on November 21st
Grade: She’s a Junior, and has been going to Somerset since she was a Freshman
Clubs/Activities: Lina is in Chorus, because her mother pushed her to join. However, she’s not very inclined to be vocally musical. She prefers to hang out and play guitar instead of sing with a large group of people.
Appearance: When describing Lina, you might use the word “average.” She’s never been exceptionally pretty, nor incredibly skinny. She’s proud of her curves, and she refuses to loose weight just because a magazine tells her she’s too fat. Instead, she works out and tries her hardest to be healthy. Her basic belief is that the media shouldn’t tell her how to walk, talk, or dress, and it certainly can’t control her clothes size.
Over the years, Lina has grown into a confident, beautiful young woman. She has long, wavy blonde hair and blue-green eyes that change in the light. She stands at five feet, eight inches and her body weight is healthy for her height. She says that she has no piercings other than her earlobes, but she had her bellybutton pierced by a friend years ago. She also has a hidden tattoo, which is at her hipbone/lower abdomen, of three blooming roses and a skull. Lina was never your girly girl. She doesn’t typically wear pink or parade around in high heels and short skirts - that’s just not her. She’s more of a jeans and a t-shirt girl, with only a small amount of make up. She typically only dresses up when attending parties or if she’s going to be on-stage, playing guitar, as she sometimes does.
Personality:
Creative: Lina is an artist. She does everything from painting murals to writing novels to composing music. She played back up bass guitar in a band when she was eleven, and started her own group when she was thirteen. However, she put her art to the side when she started school at Somerset and focused more on academics. You can always find her humming a tune or jotting down an idea, though. Often, she has “tattoos” made in Sharpie or henna decorating her arms and legs. She can’t help being creatively inclined - it’s just who she is.
Free-Minded: Lina has always had the courage to be herself, something not a lot of people can do these days. She speaks from her heart and soul, never going along with something just because it’s the popular thing to do. She refuses to conform to everyone’s rules - she believes in whatever she feels is morally right. Every kid has that phase where they’re innocent and have their own way of thinking - Lina hasn’t grown out of that phase.
Spiritual: Lina isn’t religious, but she’s spiritual. She practices her own forms of religion at home (or, in this case, in her dorm). She grew up around the darker forms of spiritual belief (no, not Satanism, of course not) and ended up learning the practice of voodoo and herbal, magical arts. Though she’s not going to hex you or stick a miniature doll with pins, she does know how to do it. She likes the culture of it, and she sort of studies it. She’s not Christian religious (she doesn’t believe in being condemmed for sins) but she’s virtuous and believes in having good morals instead of having one religion.
Dangerously Fun: Everyone is fun, but Lina can take it overboard. She does anything risky to have a good time. She just likes being out there and living on the edge, and often times she doesn’t think of the consequences. She parties hard, lives life to it’s fullest, and loves every minute of it.
Things to Know:
Lina is a virgin, but she’s been “almost there” a few times
Lina is fluent in six languages (French, Spanish, Mandarin, Portugese, German and of course, English.)
She’s an only child of a single parent, because her dad left before she was born
She plays bass guitar, guitar, piano, and she sings
Her first boyfriend died of AIDS, and she held his hand as he died. (She was never exposed to the virus through him; he knew he was dying of it when they met and was very careful to keep her safe.)
Lina has a dog named Peanut Butter, who is a miniature sheltie
History: Born to Elizabeth Peters, Lina was a healthy, blonde baby girl. Her father, whose last name she was given, was out of the picture long before she was born. Every month, he sent $2,000 in alamony and that was all she knew of her father. He never even sent birthday cards or Christmas presents. All Lina knows is that he’s an important business man who gets his money from investing, which is why she gets so much money per month. She’s never really cared enough to find him, and she doesn’t think she ever will. If he walked away from the future he could have had, that was his choice, and she doesn’t want him back in her life, that’s just it.
Lina grew up in Guardino, Cuba, living there with her mother and a friend of her mother’s (whom she calls Aunt Theresa, even though there’s no relation) until she was seven years old. They lived along a street titled “Tiffany Beach Drive” where all the vendors from America came to sell their products. She grew up as a Cuban, though she spoke English at home and Spanish at school, and never knew that she had a home back in America. When they left, she found out that she had real relatives in the states, aunts and uncles and cousins, grandparents and great grandparents. It was hard for her to leave her friend and her home, but she liked America. Eventually, she lost the tan and the accent and found herself stuck in the American way.
When Lina was fourteen, she started high school in Buffalo, New York. However, when her mother got a business offer to travel back to Cuba, she had to decide whether she wanted to move away or stay in New York. Eventually, her mother decided for her - she needed to stay where she felt most at home, and the switch to a Cuban school would be too difficult. So, she was sent to Somerset High, a boarding school/academy that wasn’t too far from her aunt and uncle’s house. Her mother promised to be back in a year, but the job stabilized and she ended up being assigned for a longer stay. Lina doesn’t mind it, much, but she still misses her mother.
Side Story: Lina often visited Cuba when she was growing up. For her thirteenth birthday, they spent a whole month there. That was when she picked up the religious interest. Having wandered into a shop, she met an older woman who practiced magic, and bought a book of spells and a history of the practice of different “odd religions” from the woman, and brought it home to the states. The book basically said that there isn’t one religion to believe in, but many different ideas to find faith in. So, Lina decided that she would share ideas from different religions and follow her own set of morals and codes.
