"Shut up," Rebecca laughed, sitting up and crossing her legs, then looking down at the water, then back to Vangelis, pursing her lips. He seemed to really want to go, and she didn't want to hold him back, of course, but she didn't want to be left alone at the edge like an awkward wallflower -- so her two choices were basically, fuck it, and jump in, or be a loser and stay put.
"You know what?" she slid her feet into the water, scooting closer to the edge, "Let's go," she sunk in, clothes and all, surfacing the water, suddenly remembering she didn't know how to swim, then reached a hand over to the edge, looking up at Vangelis, "Teach me."

Vangelis wasn't really paying attention, gazing up at the sky as Rebecca slipped in to the pool. So when he looked down and saw her in the water he was shocked to say the least. 'Porca puttana!', he laughed, yes, he speaks in Italian sometime's, old habits die hard. What he said roughly translated to holy shit.
'Okay, hold on, hold on', he replied, quickly emptying his pockets and taking off his shirt, then he slid in to the water next to her.
'Right, so, let's start with the basics, do you know how to float?', he asked, trying to think back to the swimming lessons he'd had when he was a kid.

Biting onto her lip as she watched intently while Van prepared to get into the water, Rebecca felt the sudden added weight the water added once seeped into her clothing, though ignored it, mentally refusing to take anything off.
She gripped onto the edge tightly as he entered the water with her, almost afraid that if she let go, she'd sink, then shook her head, "I, uh," she bit her lip, "aren't I floating right now?" she half-laughed, a sense of nervousness behind her breath.

'Well, you would be if you let go of the side', Vangelis laughed, he moved behind Rebecca and took hold of her arms so that she she did let go she wouldn't just sink to the bottom.
'Okay, so if you let go, I'm gonna kinda drag you out in to the middle of the pool', Vangelis explained, trying to think of what he might do then, 'Then, you're gonna have to kinda ... lean back, and try and get on your back', he finished, hoping that didn't sound too scary.

Rebecca glanced at Van when he came up behind her, then looked down at her hands, listening intently to his words. He wouldn't just let go of her and let her sink to the bottom, right? No! No, she trusted him, as hesitant as she was to let go, she loosened her grip, nodding and moving her hands away from the edge, exhaling as she did so, trying to relax. "The.. the middle?" But there was nothing to hold onto there! Just water and endless water, what if she drowned? Though, that was silly sounding in the head... imagine that, Local Girl Drowns in Community Pool.
Rebecca looked back at him and smiled, giving him the okay to lead her over there.

'You don't need the edge, look, I can almost touch the bottom, I'll be your ...', Vangelis searched for the right word, 'Anchor?', he finished tentatively, then shrugged, 'I won't let you drown okay?'. Vangelis lead her over to the middle and bobbed around for a moment, the weight of his jeans was kind of hard to work with.
'Okay, now, lean back, I'm gonna put my hands under your legs and head, theeeeen, I'm gonna let go, after a bit', he explained.

"Doesn't that mean you'll make me sink?" Rebecca half-laughed, trying not to focus on the fact that she could possibly drown, "But no, no, tell me when you let go, please," when he said he wouldn't let her drown, she nodded, easing up a bit, smiling at him in comfort. She probably seemed stupid, worrying like this -- what kept him so calm? Following his instructions and leaning back, she closed her eyes as she did so, trying not to think too hard about floating. Relax, just relax... you're not going to drown... she breathed in for a moment, letting Van help adjust her body in the water, letting it carry her, "Am I... am I doing it?"

'Yeah, I mean you're floating look', Vangelis moved his hands away confident that Rebecca would stay floating, which she did, luckily. 'Now you need to try and, flip over?', Vangelis thought about what he was saying. Teaching someone how to swim was harder than he thought. 'You could just swim on your back forever, just kick your legs', he laughed.
