Name: Rosalie Hailey Mathaw
Call me Rose, or call me Rosalie. Just don’t get all nickname-happy and give me a stupid name like “Lee-lee” okay?
Age/Date of Birth: 16, born on February 2nd, 1997.
Grade: Rosalie’s a Junior, a year behind her brother.
Activities/Sports: Rosalie was a competitive gymnast. Much like her brother is obsessed with lacrosse, Rosalie was always spending her time in the gym, working out. Even at home she was turning flips and doing her routines. Nowadays, she’s been banned from the gym, and so spends her time at the pool. She’s on the swim team, and participates in drama and theatre classes to fill her time.
Appearance: Rosalie comes from an Italian family, which is where she gets her exotic looks. Her jet black hair is down to her mid-back, and naturally wavy. She curls it every day to get the perfect look, with corkscrews that are hairsprayed to stay in place flawlessly. Her skin is light, and fair like her brother’s, but very different from the rest of her family’s olive skintones. Her eyes are a light hazel-brown, and her lips are the perfect bow-lips that she thinks are her best asset. Rosalie is 5’6” which isn’t too shabby of a height, but she always feels too short, and hates that she could never be a model because she’s just an inch too small.
As for Rosalie’s weight, she’s normal, average, nothing too bad. She has an obsession with her appearance, however, and feels that she’s never thin enough. Never mention her weight, it’ll break her down.
Personality:
Country Girl: Rosalie grew up in South Carolina, on a rural farm in a small town. She rode horses before she could walk, her allowance was given to her based upon the chores she did around the farm, typical farm-girl story. She has a slight accent, nothing heavy, but she grew up with her parent’s deep southern rules. Her parents are strict Christian, and brought her up to be kind, caring, generous, the whole sha-bang.
Innocent: Rosalie grew up knowing what sins were, and she never wanted to cross the line and do anything bad. Though her brother smokes, she would never even consider doing anything illegal like that. She’s a pure virgin to everything - smoking, drinking, having sex, even kissing.
Curious: She’s a naturally curious person. She likes knowing things, and she likes being a mini detective. She’s willing to try anything (as long as it’s not something morally wrong) just to know what it’s like. She’s gone sky diving, she’s been to a Metallica concert, she just tried every opportunity that arose.
Self-Concious: Rose is so afraid of people’s judgements, that she spends all her time trying to be the perfect person. She feels like whatever she does isn’t enough - she isn’t thin enough or pretty enough or smart enough. All she wants is approval and love, and when she doesn’t get it, she blames herself. It’s not like she’s always vying for attention - there’s just a part of her that’s always looking for someone who actually does think she’s “enough.” She hasn’t found that person yet, however.
Competitive: If there’s one thing about Rosalie that’s a flaw, it would be her competitive side. She’s good at academics and refuses to give up when there’s a competition. Her biggest issue comes to being competitive in sports - specifically, gymnastics. Rose would give her everything to be the best gymnast - and that almost cost her once.
History: Rosalie was the last child in a family of six kids. She was the “oops!” baby, the one that was a sudden surprise. She was born a year after Derek, who was supposed to be the last child. No one had any problems with another baby. Everyone thought it meant that she was just another “blessing from God” and she was raised like the rest of them were. The only thing was, after six kids, it was hard for everyone to keep sane. Her parents were always busy, the older kids never wanted to babysit, it was just a little crazy. She needed somewhere to be every day, and so when a local gym announced a before-and-after-school gymnastics program, her parents signed her up and off she went.
Rosalie Mathaw was supposed to be the “next big thing” in the gymnastics world. Everyone knew she had talent - even she recognized it. At eight years old, scouts were looking at the gym, excited to see this child prodigee. Sure, there were plenty of those around the world - it wasn’t like Rose was the best ever - but her energy and big smile lured them in. They figured she would go to the Olympics one day if she kept at it. And keep at it, she did.
The problem started the same year that scouts saw her. She was staying late after practice one day, just lollygagging around and waiting for her mother, when she heard a scout talking to one of the coaches. He had come in to watch the older girls, but everyone knew he had seen Rosalie, and liked her. “She’s going to make it to the top, someday,” she overheard. “But not if she stays that chubby. Her baby fat is making her unbalanced.”
That night, Rosalie skipped dinner. She was eight, in her mind, if she didn’t eat so much she wouldn’t be so fat. She even asked her mother how to loose her babyfat. Her mother had told her it would go away on it’s own, but she had to eat healthy to make that happen. So Rose stuck to the veggie diet and cut herself off from sweets. That’s how it went for a few years, and the baby fat melted away soon enough... but when she reached twelve years old, Rosalie decided that it wasn’t enough to just be an average weight. She stopped eating entirely, and when her parents noticed and forced her to eat, she just made herself throw it up. That’s what people did in movies on TV, they did it in books or on the internet, too. She thought it was okay to do, and when she realized that it wasn’t... she couldn’t stop.
Her sophomore year, Rosalie was perfecting a mid-air flip for her upcomming gymnastics competition. There was no audience in the gym, no one but her coaches and fellow gymnasts. She had had a pounding headache before practice, but insisted on getting her practice time in, and it proved to be almost fatal. She landed on her right shoulder, after blacking out mid-air. When she landed, the pain jolted her back into seeing, she blinked hard and tried to sit up - before she realized she couldn’t. A fall on a mat should only bruise you... but it broke her shoulder and collar bone, fracturing the upper part of her humerus. She was rushed to the hospital, where the realized exactly what had gone wrong.
Because of her years of suffering with eating disorders, Rosalie developed brittle-bone syndrome, which was why she broke so many bones with the fall. She had been on the verge of death for a long time, only managing to keep going with the few meals she ate a week. After fixing her bones, which took a surgery on her shoulder to remove bone fragments, they sent her to the psych ward. While she was getting therapy, her brother was dealing with bullying in school. In the end, after she was released, they decided to send both Rosalie and Derek to Somerset, to keep them safe.

Other:
- Rosalie never got over her E.D. Even though she gained the weight back in therapy, she’s loosing again.
- Because her parents figured out that gymnastics was what created her problem, they banned her from going to the gym. She is literally not allowed in.
- Rosalie hides her sexual orientation because her parents don’t support it. She’s really not sure what she is, but she has an undeniable attraction to women - and she doesn’t know what to do about it.
