“Root beer sounds good for me too, ” Zander said to the person taking the order, he was surprised when Eric offered to pay for him, and he was about to object, when he changed his mind. It seemed weird, because most people didn’t pay for each other anymore, be it was kind of sweet of Eric to offer, and he wasn’t going to say no. Why would he? There was really no reason to say no other then the fact that he didn’t want to seem like he was a charity case or something,
When Eric mentioned dates, it surprised Zander, but it was a bit exciting, because he knew that maybe this was working out in his favor, he was surprised to hear the word come out or Eric’s mouth, and then calling this a date, well, Zander hadn’t exactly thought of it as one at first, but he was starting to rethink that.
“I uhm… No I don’t bring a lot of my dates here, “Just you,” he said with a grin, honestly. He hadn’t brought any “Dates” here before, not for any particular reason, it just hadn’t happened. “We’ll have to go somewhere more interesting on the second date,” he grinned, and turned to Eric and winked at him. He hadn’t been expecting that last part to come out sounding the way it did, but he went with it.

Eric paid the proper amount of bills, and when the tender walked away to fill the boys' orders, Eric turned in Zander's direction. "Already planning ahead?" He raised his eyebrows, "soon we'll be Facebook-official." He gave a light laugh, trying to make light of a heavy comment. In all honesty, part of Eric was afraid that Zander was taking his words literal, when they were meant as jokes. But the other part, the part of himself he utterly loathed, was wondering if maybe he said those things, and meant them. What if a relationship with Zander was something Eric looked forward to?
What if Zander ended up being Eric's experiment? Just a test run on the race track that is homosexuality.
Eris didn't want that to happen. He definitely didn't want to hurt Zander. Or himself. He'd been trying to convince himself that he was straight for the past 18 years. Why was it becoming harder and harder to hide these thoughts and desires. Why couldn't Eric just be straight? Afraid of the possibility that he was wearing his heart on his sleeve, Eric pushed them away and stared directly at Zander. It was time to break out of his shell and forget about everything... starting now.
"So," Eric let a cute, yet increasingly mischievous smirk creep across his lips, "what should I know about Zander...?" I guess last names would be a good start. Waiting for Zander to reveal his last name, his fingers absently toyed with a napkin laying on the bar, his eyes still on Zander's.

“Yeah last names are kind of important,” he laughed, “Mine is Garnet…” he started, “Like the color… Or the stone… I think it’s both,” he shrugged. He wasn’t sure what else to say, but suddenly he thought of something else to say, remembering back to the train ride here, and the fact that he had neglected to tell him that he went to the same school as Eric. Which was a good thing considering the fact that he could see him a lot more often than he would otherwise, and for a second, he wasn’t sure if he wanted to tell him that, just yet, because how would he even go about saying that Oh and I go to your school by the way, if you ever need a tour or anything Just out of the blue like that.
Although he was pretty much an open book, and would tell people almost anything about himself, he wasn’t sure what to say.
Just keep it basic, He figured that he didn’t need to tell Eric all about him, but what did he tell him that was the problem. He probably already knew that he was into him, and that kind of scared Zander a little bit, honestly he wanted him to like him too, and he didn’t know why but he thought that picking a choosing that he would him was somehow going to help him with that. Even though that logic made no sense to he honest.
“I’m actually from Michigan, and uhm… I live with my grandparents, and uh… I just go to school here, actually I like the city,” he shrugged, he wasn’t sure what he had actually told Eric already, “My parents are in the army, and I guess they didn’t want us to have to move all over the place so they kind of ditched us, with my grandparents, and then my grandma was like I don’t feel like dealing with these problem children so she sent us here” he realized what he was starting to say, and for a second he paused, it was so easy to say things like that, before he realized he was talking about her. He decided to change the subject and not ponder on that one for foo much longer. “I go to Somerset,” he said with a grin, as the server handed them their drinks, “I think I forgot to mention,” he said with an evil grin appearing on his face.

Eric's eyes widened, and his face seemed to say "Why are you just mentioning this?!"
As he reached for his float, Eric cleared his throat, "Do you?" Why didn't he say so when the two were heading off the bus? Eric decided to take it as an element of mystery in Zander's personality-- it was more exciting that way. The sinister smile he appeared to have, helped him create this fantasy.
"Well, Zander Garnet from Michigan, I'm Eric Morgan." He took a sip of his root beer and continued, "I'm from Missouri. I have two half-siblings who are both graduated. I also have a cat, who is back home with my parents and the rest of my entire back-woods family." He raised his eyebrows and pursed his lips in mock happiness, "I consider myself the lucky one, for getting out."
"Problem Children?" Zander didn't seem like the type to win the title "problem child." Eric wasn't so sure he nor Zander were ready to embark on what might be a long conversation, so just in case, Eric made another conversational comment, "Soooo," His fingers found his red-and-white striped straw to swirl around, stealing flirty glances at Zander. It was his looks he was using, more than his words to talk to Zander. Eric wasn't much good at being a tease, so maybe he'd try his hand. Unfortunately, Zander went to the same school as him so there would be consequences for scandalous behavior. Fortunately, this also meant that he would get to see a lot of this boy, which he was definitely looking forward to. "do you usually go to the city by yourself? I mean, what were your original plans for today, before i had a chance to ruin them?" He was pretty sure he didn't actually ruin any plans, but he was trying to rack his brain for something to say, something to make Zander's eyes light up or show some kind of emotion, but it was a hard feat when you're just getting to know someone. It takes a while before you can figure out what makes a person really tick. But Eric was determined to find the right word, phrase, comment, that would spark a match or light up Zander's eyes, or anything. And he wasn't sure why.

“I do,” he said raising a brow, “Oh yeah,” he said when Eric asked about the problem child thing, “Long story short, my grandparents are kind of homophobic so…” he shrugged, that wasn’t exactly the reason why they were problem children, but it was a small part of it. He watched Eric for a second, he found it hard to believe how he had ended up meeting Eric like this. He was just so… well he couldn’t think of a word, but he was definitely adorable. Continuing on with the conversation, “So you like it in the city?” He asked, referring to the fact that Eric had said something about being lucky to have left, or that’s what Zander caught from that anyway.
Since he seemed to be staring at Eric through most of what he was saying, “I do sometimes,” he said, “I mean I wasn’t doing anything,” he shrugged, “What about you, do you go to the city alone all the time?” He asked, which was stupid question because Eric mentioned only being here a little while, but Zander didn’t think before he said things sometimes.

Were the two playing eye-tag? It seemed like-- or so Eric thought-- that the two were doing a lot of staring. It was a little exciting to him, although he would never admit to such a small gesture effecting him so much. There was something about the attention Zander gave him that played with his head, and gave him butterflies, and he just wasn't quite sure how he felt about those things.
"The city, hmm..." He sipped from his float, "it's pretty interesting. I mean that's not why I wanted out. I just needed to get out of my dead-end town. It traps people there. And you'll never make a name for yourself in a small town like that." Eric rubbed the back of his neck, and bit his lip, "No," He looked down at his feet and then up at Zander, "No, I'm not very good at riding solo. I just didn't have anyone to check out the city with. I mean until right now, right?" Was that too much? Not enough?
UGH why was Eric constantly wondering if what he was saying was good or right. It usually worked out anyway. And if things didn't work out it wasn't like there wasn't other people at this school, right? But he wasn't sure he wanted to find someone else, when the someone he has was remarkable enough.

“Hm, well that’s no fun,” he said, He hadn’t really been paying too much attention to Eric when he was talking about his town, although he did hear his response to the question about the city, and his question.
“Right.” He said, that question seemed like one with an obvious answer, “There’s lots of stuff to see, around here, so we’ll probably have lots of adventures,” he said, that sentence had a bit of a double meaning behind it, and the way he said it, in a flirty voice seemed a bit like he was trying too hard, but then he found himself wondering what exactly Eric was thinking, and how much easier this would be if he could read his mind, but instead, he went back to playing eye tag with him. It was so easy for him to forget that he had just met Eric not so long ago, and he wasn’t sure that was a good thing. There was just something about him that made him feel comfortable around him. It might have been the fact that he liked him a little too much, or maybe that Eric seemed like a chill person, he didn’t know what it was, but for some reason Eric was just easy to be around.

"Yea, not really." Eric's finger traced the ring around the glass, which was containing melted icecream and warm-ish soda. He drank from the straw anyways.
Eric bit his lip. Zander's tone made Eric nervous, but in a good, excited way. "Adventures, huh?" He caught Zander's gaze and then looked back at his glass quickly, suddenly too shy to look back. "Sounds exciting. I'm taking you up on your offer."
And for no particular reason, Eric was now wondering if Zander drank. This was not the time nor place to ask, he decided, but the thought was there. He must, Eric thought, At least once. Maybe Eric was curious because maybe alcohol was the way to break this barrier he felt right now. Like, that even though the two were having a great time there was something there, something between them holding them back. Maybe it was just Eric being self-cautious, or maybe it was because if anything happened, Eric could blame it on the alcohol.
What "things"?! he thought, even though he knew. And he wish he didn't. Why couldn't he just have a normal friendship, hm? Because he thought because... because.

ooc: Them getting drunk would probably be… interesting… lol if that’s where you were going with that.
“Adventures,” he said, answering Eric’s rhetorical question. “Hmm…” He started, “Where do you think we should go on this adventure?” he asked. He sipped from the root beer that well was honestly not as good when it was warm, but he wasn’t going to leave just yet. He was enjoying this conversation, if that was all it was, even though he wanted it to be more. He didn’t exactly know how to feel about Eric, but he liked him, maybe a little too much considering how long he had known him.
Eric was interesting though, he seemed like such a chill person, and that made him easy to be around, there was that, and the fact that Zander had no idea what he was thinking, and if everything he said was serious, or just a joke. Or if Eric even liked it, or wanted this. There was so many things running though Zander’s mind, that he was silent for a second, stirring his root beer. He wasn’t sure exactly what to say, but he was liking where that conversation was going, so he waited for a resonse from Eric, not looking up at him .

ooc; it would be very interesting. but how is the question. I mean if you're into that kind of thing. I'm sorry this is so short, i ran out of ideas.
Eric was stumped. He just couldn't think of a suggestion. He hadn't really been around the city long enough to know what was around, and New York was nothing like Missouri, so there was no comparison. "I guess it depends," he began, observing his hands as his fingers picked at his cuticles, "on what kind of adventure we're after." He let his eyes meet with Zanders as he said that, and waited for a reaction. Eric wished that he could have said something more substantial, but there wasn't much to be said coming from a boy who had been in the city for a few short hours. Or with this boy for a few short hours-- how was he suppose to know what Zander liked to do, anyways? He did get the vibe, however, that Zander would be fine with almost anything, within reason. Eric's elbow propped up on the counter, and he rested his chin on the heel of his palm, his fingers drumming lightly on his bottom lip, as he waited for words to fall from his companion's mouth.
