Full Name: Baker Cody Atkinson. He really hates when people call him Bake.. just stick with Baker. Or make up some other cute nickname.
Age: 18 as of March 21st. He's proud to be an adult now.. but honestly still acts like a four year old. (oh by zeh way.. this makes him a senior. yay)
Sport/Club: Basketball and theater. Though he's only been in one play.. he was cast as "talking tree".
Appearance: First, he's freakishly tall standing at six foot six. He's kind of uncomfortable with his height, but doesn't really show it. Its just one of those personal things. One of those "tall kid wishes he was short, short kid wishes he was tall" thing. Its not really a big deal. Though he's tall, he's not all that lanky. Baker is actually a pretty strong dude. He's no body builder, like at all.. but he's not a total stick. What he doesn't have is a six pack. Don't go looking for it.. its not there. If you're an arms girl, though, he's your man.
Baker keeps his hair all over the place. One day its down to his chin, the next he's got it buzzed. Maybe now and then he'll style it like a skater kid, sometimes he'll slick it back. He likes to have options so honestly, he really won't just shave his head. That was a lie. The shortest he'll go is an inch. He's honestly in love with his hair.. he calls it a "field of chocolate wheat". Baker also loves his eyes and honestly, most everyone else does too. They're a brilliant light green, almost like mint. Sometimes they come off as blue, but I can assure you that they are in fact green. He doesn't really like his smile, he thinks he looks like a little kid. But people always tell him there's nothing wrong with it and that its contagious. Overall, Baker is very confident with his face. He considers himself to be a handsome person.
As far as clothing goes.. well, he doesn't have a particular style. Honestly, there's nothing he wouldn't wear. He only owns one pair of skinny jeans and doesn't wear them often, but he does indeed wear them. He's all about comfort and lazy days, but likes to dress up for dates. He also loves to play dress up, so if you ever go through his closet you're bound to find lots of random pieces to costumes like Spartan chest plates, a Peter Pan tunic, pirate hats, you name it. He likes to have fun.
Personality: Baker is that quiet, lovable guy. He's not here to make anyone cry, make anyone mad. He's known a lot of pain in the past and doesn't want to provoke any more. So, he's literally the definition of a gentle giant. However, he can be really loud. True, he's a quiet guy to most.. but if you're one of his close friends, you won't get him to shut up. He likes to jump around, get really active, and just flail his body around. He's a gamer in both the virtual and real worlds. Call of Duty and Jak and Daxter remain favorites, but he also likes to go to places like the Renaissance fair where he can dress up and be someone completely different. Baker is definitely a nerd. That goes without saying.
If he's ever mad, he gets really quiet. Baker is very sensitive and the tiniest things make him cry. Lots of people say that he's just a giant child. If you hurt his feelings, he really is going to cry. Get him mad enough and he'll start tossing out the swear words. But that really takes a lot. You have to really piss him off. He'll never hit, though. Never. Even if you hit him first.
Generally, Baker is a four year old. He's really friendly and tries to get along with everyone. He's like a puppy. You should probably get to know him. And don't be intimidated if he doesn't talk very much at first.
Background: Baker grew up in a very regular, loving family. His neighborhood was small and everybody knew everybody, his friends were the only kids on the block and they loved him like he loved them. His father, Maxwell Atkinson, was a hunter and owned the town's butchery. Atkinson's Meat, it was called. Baker always hoped to work there someday. He could never really handle killing anything, but he thought he could package the meat and maybe deliver it to people's houses. He was a real people person so that didn't sound so bad.
He had two siblings. An older brother and an older sister. Henry, the oldest of the Atkinson children, was ten years older than Baker and Aubree, the second oldest, was two years older. During this particular part of Baker's life, Henry happened to be 27 and Aubree was 19. Henry was out of state, off living with his own family. He had a beautiful wife named Corey and two beautiful baby girls: Jenni and Maggie. And as much as all of the Atkinsons loved Henry and his family.. Henry was just never around too much. Aubree was in college, but just so happened to be home for the Spring holiday. This leaves Baker to be seventeen. A new seventeen year old, in fact, it being his birthday and all.
The day was beautiful. A warm, sunny Saturday and the Atkinson's had been planning a barbecue for the first day of spring, March 21st: Baker's birthday. It was a great, annual party that everyone in the town looked forward to. A party with the Atkinson's was one you didn't miss. They sure knew how to have a good time. And that's when it started raining.
"Well shit," Maxwell announced as a large drop of rain hit him over the head. He closed the grill quickly and ran inside, the platter of raw burgers in his hand. "Sorry, Baker. Guess its gonna be an inside party?" he added as he set the platter down and patted Baker on the head. Baker only smiled and shrugged. "We don't have to have it this year.. I'll just have some buddies over," he said, a broader smile breaking over his face. Maxwell looked a little sad, but nodded anyway and told Aubree to call of the barbecue. Baker went to call his two best friends, Andie and Peter, up in his bedroom. And as if the rain wasn't enough, there was now thunder and lightning. It was the thunder that made it so Baker didn't hear the screaming.
Ten minutes passed and Baker hadn't been able to get a hold of his friends. A bit upset, he went downstairs to tell his dad he was gonna try again in a bit and take a shower until then. He'd even taken off his shirt, ready to hop in. But his dad was gone. Where? He didn't know. And it took a minute before he realized that the entire house had gone silent. Confused, Baker began through the house searching for anyone. His mom, his dad, Aubree, anyone. They were all gone. No where to be seen. He stood for a minute in the kitchen, hand behind his head as he wondered where they'd gone. That's when he noticed that the door to the cellar was open.
"That's weird," he said, eyes squinted. The cellar door was never open. All that was in the cellar was Maxwell's hunting equipment. Guns upon guns, bullet proof vests, hunting knives, you name it. Curious, Baker headed down the stairs. Its not like he wasn't allowed down there, it was just not a very safe place so the door was always kept closed. "Dad, you down here?" Baker shouted before reaching the bottom of the stairs. "SHUT UP," was the answer that came back in a rather forceful whisper. Baker stopped in his tracks and squatted to see under the ceiling, into the cellar. The lights were on dim and he could barely see, but noticed his dad kneeling in the corner, gun raised. "Dad.." Baker started, but Maxwell shushed him and pulled his hand towards him repeatedly signalling for Baker to come. Baker obeyed and quickly ran down the rest of the stairs.
"Grab that one," Maxwell said, pointing to a gun across the room in a rack. Baker hesitated. He wasn't supposed to touch Maxwell's guns and frankly, didn't want to. "Dad..?" he said, again cut off by another shush. "Just grab the fucking gun," Maxwell whispered again. Baker was shocked. Sure Maxwell swore now and then, but he'd never heard him say THAT before. Scared, Baker grabbed the gun and moved forward to his dad, squatting before him. "What the hell is going on?" he asked, mimicking the whisper. Maxwell started to cry. "He got them. He got them both," he was saying. Baker was beyond confused at this point. "Aubree, your mother, they're gone. They're in the yard," Maxwell said. Baker smiled awkwardly. "Well, they're not gone if they're in the yard," he said, trying to make light of the situation but was answered with a slap in the face. "They're DEAD, Baker. DEAD," Maxwell said, this time not even trying to whisper. Baker sat in pure shock. He didn't move, he didn't even breath. Dead?
Before he had time to think, there was a thud upstairs. Baker and Maxwell both instinctively looked to the ceiling, Maxwell moving his finger to the trigger. "He's still here," he whispered, quieter than before. "Who?" Baker asked, even quieter than Maxwell. "Some psychopathic freak. He just burst in, shooting everywhere. He hit your mother first. Just as she was coming in from outside. Aubree.. she tried to run. He got her too," Maxwell explained. Baker was confused at how calm he seemed to be talking about this. There were no more tears, just a straight face. A face he'd never seen before. He looked madder than hell. Angry was a face Baker had never seen on his father. "Its just you and me," Maxwell added as he stood, then ran up the stairs. There was a shot. Then another. Baker couldn't tell if it was his father's gun that shot or that other man's. He was scared, he wasn't thinking. But someone was alive. And just the thought that it could be his father caused him to stand and cock the gun. He had never been a religious boy, but he looked to God and prayed for protection just before crossing himself and heading to the base of the stairs.
Taking the stairs two at a time, though still walking slowly, Baker squatted before he got to the top and peered out underneath the bottom of the door. There was no one that he could see in front of it, to the left, or to the right. They were both gone. Slowly, he stood and opened the door with his right hand. The lights were out now, probably because of the storm which was still raging on outside. He was tip toeing at this point, head on radar as he went towards the front door to avoid the kitchen, to avoid seeing out into the yard where his mother and sister were. But there was no avoiding the death that surrounded him as he go to the front door (which was wide open) in front of which his father was laying, sprawled out across the ground with a bullet through his forehead. Baker lost it.
Collapsing to his knees, Baker dropped the gun he'd been carrying as his hands flew up to cover his mouth, tears streaming down his face. He tried not to make much noise, the common sense that was left in his head telling him that the killer could be near by. But nothing stopped those few screaming sobs that broke through.
Scared out of his mind, Baker eventually rose and sprinted out the front door leaving the gun and his family where they sat. He ran to the house across the street, banging on the door, not able to speak. A very worried Mrs. Lilly answer the door to catch a very distraught Baker Atkinson in her arms. "What's wrong, Baker?" she asked him, trying to push him back a bit so he could stand up. Mr. Lilly was now in the room as well.
"He got them. He got all of them," was all Baker could manage through the tears. "He got all of them," he repeated at least ten times.

The police were called and the killer was later found to be a thirty year old man named William Tenner. He'd been clumsy enough to drop his gun before he fled the scene. Baker, now without a family, was shipped off to New York to live with his aunt and uncle, the closest family he had. After the tragedy, he didn't speak for about a year. He was a self-proclaimed mute and said that he just didn't have a reason to speak. The first time he spoke again was also the first and last time he ever hit someone. The man was his cousin's boyfriend and had been teasing Baker about being "a pussy that couldn't even keep his own family alive". Baker lost it, punched the man square in the jaw and said "my family is none of your god damn business."
This year, though he's eighteen, Baker is new to Foxhurst Academy. Having moved at the time he did, Baker could've come here when he was still seventeen. But with the accident and all.. Well, it had been decided that it was best to just let him have his space for a while. He's fine now, no longer a mute.. but he does have his quiet moments and he still has nightmares of that day.
