Appearance:
Raine is (and always has been) very petite. She's barely standing at 5'2 and she weighs 105 pounds though her smallest weight was 98 pounds and she looked awful then which she can see now. She is a natural brunette and she has brown eyes. She's worn contacts since she was thirteen years old but she has a pair of glasses that she wears when she's just relaxing at home. Her vision isn't too terrible but she does need them to drive and see things at a distance.
Personality:
Raine can be, in essence, the sweetest warmest person that you will possibly ever meet but if she's hurt and she wants to shut you out then you could die of frostbite. It can be hard for her to vocalize her feelings and they bottle up so much that she bursts and screams at the first person to set her off.. Like a ticking time bomb. She can also be very loving and affectionate if you can get to that side of her.. it's buried away underneath of her sarcastic remarks and sexual passes towards her best friend, Estelle.
She clings to the people that she loves and she has difficulties when they leave her even if they need to. She has never been the type to believe that absence makes the heart go fonder - she believes that it's best if you just stay with the person that you care about at all times and never risk losing what you have. What if you leave and find someone or something better? It's a fear of her's... That one day everyone will realize that they can find and do so much better.
Background:
To say that Raine was an unplanned baby would be an understatement; her mother had decided that she was done having children because she already had several young sons but her husband desperately wanted a little girl. So, he lied to her and poked holes in the condoms so they would conceive a final child and then prayed like hell that it would be the little girl that he wanted so terribly. It wasn't the most moral decision that a person could make but he has never once regret doing it and her mother has never once said that she wished that he hadn't done it. She brought something to the family that they didn't even realize was missing!
But her mother feared that she would struggle being the only girl in a house full of masculine boys so she enrolled her daughter in ballet classes from the time that she was old enough and Raine can never thank her enough for that. She discovered that she has a natural passion for it and a determination to do whatever it takes to make it big one day. Julliard has called her name since she took a tour of the school when she was seven years old. She has never even thought about doing anything else with her life and why would she? It's gotten her through some dark times in her life.
One of which was during her freshman year where she began dieting to try and fit in better among the girls at her new dance studio. Everyone was so thin and perfect that she couldn't help but feel insecure and out of place. They seemed to know so much more than she did! She'd gone from being the big fish in a small pond to a little fish lost in a big sea of beautiful yet catty girls. They didn't help matters, of course, because teenage girls can be like that.. Vindictive in a competitive industry - Julliard only takes the best of the best and while they were all young to be applying now, they knew that they would one day be against these very girls.
She could go days without eating or maybe just eat something small and then go to the studio and dance for a few hours. She never once purged or had a binge nor did she get to the scary extremes that so many fall into. She had finally gotten the lead in the school's winter production of the Nutcracker when she finally came to see why a person needs food in their body. She was dizzy and fighting a massive migraine that made her want to shield her eyes from the harsh stage lighting. She fainted during the opening and embarrassed herself in front of everyone.
Her parents were concerned and shocked to discover their daughter had been hiding such a harmful habit from them. How could their baby girl feel this way? They believed that they had done everything possible to help their children understand that it's not what's on the outside that counts, it's what's on the inside. But they could understand, in a way, how desperate that she had to feel to fit in with the new girls but they still insisted on taking her out of that studio and they eventually found one where she was accepted for the beautiful ballerina that she is.
During her sophomore year, she began dating Elliot Sawyer Gates. It wasn't, admittedly, love at first sight for her as she had believed that he was homosexual but now? She couldn't imagine life without him. He's become her rock, her best friend.. Her whole world and she knows that she's going to marry that boy one day. It's not some silly puppy love relationship like her family seems to believe and that's why she's not rushing into sexual for the first time even if she is getting frustrated. In the simplest way, he completes her like she was a puzzle missing a single piece before him and now she's perfect.
