Rose and Walter Parker wanted nothing more than to leave beyond a beautiful legacy after they passed away. The first step was already done and complete by the time that they were in their late thirties which was finishing college and starting a successful chain of businesses for her and he wanted to become a judge in New York to keep scum off of the streets to ensure that this town would be a lovely place to raise a family. They didn't conceive Richard Marvin Parker until they were nearing their forties and both of them believed that this sweet little boy would be all that they needed so they didn't think too much about having anymore. What were the chances of that happening so late in life anyway? It'd taken nearly two years to just conceive him!
Richard's childhood was filled with pleasures that most children could only dream of. He was placed on a pedestal from birth and was dotted on by almost every member of the family including grandparents who believed that they would never get to meet their first grandchild. He was the prince, the first born.. Every hope and dream that they ever had rested upon the little blonde boy.
He never once disappointed his parents. He excelled at everything that he tried from academics to music to sports. He was perfectly content being an only child but fate seemed to step in. Rose never expected to be fifty-three and pregnant but that's what she found out on her oldest son's thirteenth birthday. They were numb to the news at first, the baby wasn't planned or really wanted so they considered their options but nothing felt right. Abortion went against everything that they stood for and adoption would ruin their reputation.
The pregnancy went relatively smoothly and soon they introduced their very first daughter to their little world. Madeline Lynette wasn't the same sweet easy baby that her brother had been. She cried constantly for weeks after her birth and she was only soothed by the gentle rocking that her brother would occasionally do after he got home from practice. Her parents might not have dotted on her like they should have but her brother more than made up for it.
He was taking her everywhere that he could with him by the time that he was sixteen including sports and music practices. He didn't want to leave her to be raised by the nannies! He remained closest to his young sister even after he moved out of the house and began a life of his own. He was going to follow the dreams that his parents had for him . He was twenty-seven and one week shy of his birthday when he was found murdered outside of his law offices. The suspect was a man who he'd 'wronged' by failing to get someone he believed was guilty convicted.
Rose and Walter were understandably upset but they banned their young daughter from attending the funeral and made it very clear that they had little interest in her. Her mother even went as far as telling her that she wished that it'd been her instead.-not done-
