[ www.polyvore.com/cadie/set?id=90937398 ] Freshmen year had been pretty smooth so far. Caleb hadn’t gotten into any fights and he hadn’t been in the burn blog. Actually, his whole family hadn’t been in the burn blog. He did however get a lovely text from an unknown number. Someone wants the D. It didn’t bother him at all, and he simply shrugged it off. That didn’t stop him from making a facebook status about it, obviously. Caleb had thought he was hot shit until Connor actually showed a picture of some nudes a girl had sent the older brother. Obviously nudes beat a random text wanting some any day. Connor always outdid him anyway possible. Chantel merely laughed and that was the end of their conversation. She gave him a warning about the dangers of the burn blog, but he brushed it off. Caleb never had the balls to skip lunch. He was afraid of getting caught, or worse- getting into trouble. He didn’t want anything on his record fearing the talk his parents had given him before he came to Somerset. He didn’t want to risk losing his chance to surf during the summer. He wasn’t allowed to have any hiccups this year. His siblings were making that rather hard though. They were more adventurous than him, always out and partying. Caleb just couldn’t get into that swing, or at least not now. He was still trying to find his way in the pecking order of things, trying to survive his first year. Having the Jackson name did help though. Luckily his older siblings hadn’t been losers and were actually cool among the student body. Sure, most of the girls that talked to him because they wanted Connor’s number, but that was life. Whatever, their loss. Caleb had forgotten some books in his locker and the extra time was going to make him late if he didn’t book it. Thank goodness he was actually athletic or he would’ve never made it. He hated being late to lunch, because that meant all the good seats were taken. Okay, basically all the seats were taken. Getting a seat was nearly impossible, and sometimes fights broke out because of it. Luckily there was on seat open next to a blonde he’d never seen before. He debated actually sitting there before slowing approaching the female. “Hey…” he said looking down at her,” can I sit here?” He didn’t really wait for an answer before slowing sinking into the chair across from her and offering her a sheepish smile.

Jodie had actually gotten to the lunch room about five minutes before Caleb had walked up to her. She was sitting on the end of a table alone with a bottle of powerade and a bag of lays ships in front of her. At the other end of the lunch table was a huge group of people along with her sister who were all hanging out laughing and talking, but she didn't know them so she just sat where she was. Her phone was in her hand as she was trying to beat level twenty nine of candy crush which she had been stuck on for the past week and a half when she heard someone's voice coming from beside her. She pressed the button on the top of her phone and set it down on the table in front of her and looking up at the boy. Her face turned red and she smiled at him as she saw him starting to sit down. She moved her bag from in front of his seat and to the floor beside her. "Oh, yeah sure. " She smiled at him and when he fully sat down she turned in her seat so she was facing him. She wasn't sure what to say at first, but then she figured she should probably introduce herself to him. "I'm Jodie, I just moved here a week or two ago. I just started school here." She smiled at him before grabbing her the bottle of bright red powerade before opening it and taking a sip. She set the bottle back down before seeing her old sister lean and look over at the two of them from the other end of the table giving her a thumbs up and a wink before sitting back down in her seat only making Jodie's face turn redder as she felt the heat go into her cheeks. She went to go ask him something but stopped and looked down at her hands which she laced together on the table. "So, how long have you been at Somerset? Let me guess, you're a... " She paused for a second looking at him before raising her eyebrow. "You're a junior? Either that or you're a freshman. You don't have the senior or sophomore look to you." She raised an eyebrow at the kid before letting out a small little laugh. She had a feeling he was either a junior or lower, but not a senior. She knew she probably sounded dumb but hey. She was a weird child and it was obvious just from talking to her for about two minutes. She was very strange and had a lot of weird quirks to her, but they were cute. She grabbed her bag of chips opening them before looking around the cafeteria as she ate one chip and glanced back at the boy.

Caleb let out a sigh of relief that he didn’t know he had been holding. A part of him feared the girl in front of him would reject his offer and he’d have to find somewhere else to eat his sandwich, courtesy of his lovely sister. His sister could make a mean sandwich without him or Connor having to ask for them. Sometimes she was a really cool sis, always looking out for them. She was like a mom away from home. Caleb noted the familiar game on her screen. “Candy Crush is intense,” he said before taking a large bite out of his sandwich. He had been stuck on a level for a few days and had been sending requests to his siblings for more lives like crazy. It had gotten to the point where they threatened to end him if he sent more than one every hour. He couldn’t help it though!
He looked at the girl before him and slight shade a pink stained his cheeks. She was attractive, and suddenly retard syndrome had kicked in or something. Where were his words? Females were way too complicated to start conversations with. Jodie? That was a pretty cool name. “I’m Caleb,” he said nodded with his sandwich still in his hands. “That’s cool,” he said glancing about,” welcome to Sometset then.” His eyes followed where her attention had turned toward an older female who was giving some sort of sign of positivity or ‘thumbs up’. Clearly that girl was having a great day and just sharing it with Jodie. Why was she blushing? Maybe she knew that other female? Sibling perhaps. “Older sister?” he asked taking another bite. “I have two older siblings here too,” he said before taking a sip from his water.
The girl was making so many movements that it was making Caleb anxious. He already wasn’t good with girls, but he had to fake til he made it. He figured if he just kept his mouth shut he’d be okay, and stay away from the dumb faces. He opened his mouth to answer her question until she decided to play twenty questions about his grade. Caleb was slightly confused at all the options and stared at her for a moment with his mouth slightly open as he thought about what she had just said. She thought he was a junior? He couldn’t help but let out a laugh and a goofy smile at the offhand compliment. Caleb beamed slightly with pride at the idea of being older, like a man. “Naw,” he said shaking his head and chuckling under his breath,” fresh meat freshmen.” The truth was out there, but it was bound to come out. “What about you?” he asked with a raised brow.

Jodie smiled at the boy who had followed her glance to her older sister, "Yeah. I have three older sisters and a brother. Two are half sisters and my brothers a half sister. But that one down there is my only real sister. She's two grades older than us, and super embarrassing." She notice the boys cheeks start to turn a light pink shade. He was cute, really cute. And he had good hair and a beautiful full smile. She went to go answer and question before she felt a tug on the back of her hair before two hands were placed on her shoulders. She glanced up and saw Carly standing over her.
"Hey, since you're eating chips right now, make sure for dinner you have a big salad and a water. Then go for a run, then be up early to meet me at the gym for workout." Carly gave Jodie a stern old sister 'you need to listen to me' look before smiling at both Jodie and Caleb and walking away. Jodie rolled her eyes shaking her head before looking at Caleb, "sorry about her. She's a bit of a control freak... Just about all the time. She's a junior here and one of the most active students in the school. She's on the debate team, in the orchestra, cheerleading, and gymnastics. She's one of those people who strives for attention whenever she can get it." She said with a nervous laugh before taking another sip out of her drink again and looked up at him.
Jodie smiled and looked down at her drink, "I'm a freshman also, it sucks. I'm so ready to get out of high school and go to college. Be free from rules and parents..." She let out a small chuckle before looking up at him realizing how fast she had been talking. "When I get nervous, I tend to talk really fast and turn into a total spazz kind of like i'm doing right now and I tend to make myself look like a fool. So just a notice in advanced if I ever sound like a total idiot. That is if you decide we'll talk again or if I totally scare you off." She ran her fingers loosely through her hair before eating another chip.

He raised a brow at the mention of so many family members. He thought just two older siblings was tough. “Yeah my bro, Connor, is a sophomore,” he said looking up slightly as if trying to remember,” and my sis, Chantel, is a junior. They’re pretty cool though, no complaints.” She was really pretty, and Caleb had to remind himself not to stare. Connor had tried to give him a crash course of talking to girls, but right now he couldn’t remember any of it. Her being new explained why he’d never seen her before. If she wasn’t knew, he would’ve remembered such a pretty face. Maybe someone as pretty as her already had a boyfriend, and maybe he was just getting his own hopes up.
Caleb looked up behind Jodie surprised at a taller blonde. He was slightly weirded out by her ‘this is the only life you’ll ever live’ daily routine to Jodie. He shook her hair slightly as the older sibling walked away. “Man, I thought my older siblings were controlling,” he let out a low whistle and felt slightly sorry for her. “Salad isn’t even dinner,” he said as if couldn’t even contemplate the thought of eating a bowl of leaves was filling,” you need like a burger, fries, and a milkshake!” It was no secret that the Jackson children could eat, and eat a lot. It’s like their stomachs were bottomless. Well, Chantel ran whenever possible, so she could afford to eat some sweets.
He finally noticed her ‘lunch’ was shook her head,” that won’t do. Here, have half my sandwich. No if, and, or buts!” He placed half of the sandwich on a napkin and slid it over to her. With all the activities that her sister was going to make her do she needed the energy. He hoped she wasn’t one of those girls that refused to eat in front of guys or something weird like that. “I’ve never had controlling parents. I don’t mind being in school,” he said truthfully with the shrug of his shoulders. He couldn’t stop looking at her, and that smile. He was drawn in by her laugh. Sure, he couldn’t really keep up with her fast talking and could only blink, but she was something else. “It’s all good,” he reassured her,” I’m not exactly good at talking to people.” He laughed awkwardly at himself, bringing a hand to run through his hair,” especially to someone as pretty as you.”

Jodie laughed, “Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve had a milkshake? Let alone fries!? It’s a almost a year and a half. That just sounds like an amazing dinner. Especially bread, she like killed me. “She shrugged it off, and ate another chip. After going so long on such a healthy diet, it didn’t bother her as much as it use to. She used to be chubby anyways, and she was proud of how skinny she had gotten especially since she had abs in the making thanks to cheerleading. “Salad has become a every night dinner I’ve pretty much gotten used to it.” She smiled at him before sipping her PowerAde when she watched him look at her food and slide half of his in front of her.
She went to go object but he had already cut her saying no objections and her cheeks turned a light shade of pink as she closed her mouth. “Thank you. Really though, you don’t have to share your food with me. “She gave him a thankful smile before taking a bite of the food. She listened to him talk as she swallowed her food. Her face was getting super hot as soon as he called her pretty and her heart skipped a beat. If she was alone, and this was like over text… She probably would have started jumping around screaming like a little fan girl seeing the celebrity of her dreams, but she managed to refrain herself. “Aww, well you’re doing fine. “
She smiled and looked up at him making eye contact before watched him run his hand through his hair. “Thank you, and trust me… I’m not used to talking to anyone as cute as you either.” She blushed letting out a shy laugh. Just then she saw someone sit down beside her in the corner of her, before looking over and seeing Carly which made her jump. “Jesus Carly, you scared me.” She put a hand over her heart dramatically and looked over at the girl once more. Carly just laughed, “I just wanted to come a mee-“ She got cut off mid-sentence because Jodie’s eyes went huge and she began to push her sister out of the seat. “No no no no. Go, go sit with your own friends.” She pushed Carly all the way down to the other side of the table.
She soon returned and sat down looking back at Caleb, “sorry. I just… you don’t want to meet her. And I don’t want you to. She’ll embarrass me for the rest of my life. And that’s just, not okay.” She laughed tilting her head back a little which let her hair fall off her shoulders to behind her, before taking another sip of her drink. “So, tell me more about yourself” she smiled.

Caleb looked at her wide eyes. “Over a year,” he said surprised,” what kind of cruel and unusual punishment.” He shook his head at the thought of a healthy lifestyle. It just wasn’t for him. A good cheeseburger was like the second love of his life next to surfing. There was something so satisfying about having a full stomach that made him so happy. He didn’t understand why girls felt the need to change their body image. Sure, if it was to be healthy than good, but not to impress people. “Well, I’m going to have to take you to this great burger joint then,” he said taking a bite out of his sandwich again. Salads for dinner every night? Sounded like torture. “You don’t need to eat salads,” he said looking at his hands,” I think you look great no matter what.”
Females these days had a real body image issue, and hopefully he could stop it one compliment at a time. But it was true that even if the girl before him weighed 100 pounds more, she’d still beautiful. “It’s not a problem,” he said as she looked at the sandwich,” my sister always makes me sandwiches, and I have another one for later!” He went through so much food during the school day, it was scary. Caleb was starting to think that he’d totally missed his mark with his compliment until she gave encouraging remarks. He was doing fine. He gave a cheeky grin and scratched the back of his head, mentally giving himself a pat on the back. He was making his older bro proud.
Every time their eyes met, Caleb couldn’t help but stare. Her eyes were gorgeous and distracting. He wasn’t good at multitasking anyway. Besides, just breathing and talking to her was enough of a task as it was. He swallowed hard as she dished out a compliment of her own. “Cute?” he ask blushing,” thanks. I don’t get that often.” It was true, most girls were all over his ‘swagtastic’ older brother who could charm any girl right out of their pants. Suddenly the older sibling was back, clearly to annoy the little sister. Again, Caleb could only sit there dumbfounded as he watched the two blondes interact for dominance. When Carly was pushed away Caleb could only sit there awkwardly and look around, not sure what to do.
He laughed at how embarrassed she seemed. “No, I understand,” some sort of goofy usual face in place,” I wouldn’t want you to meet my siblings right off the bat.” Family was very important to the Jackson siblings, but Chantel was really the one he feared the most. That girl was fearless and extremely reckless at times. No doubt she’d do a complete investigation at the mention of a girl. Connor would probably just use his charm and steal Jodie right in front of him. He couldn’t win with any of his siblings. “About myself? Shucks.” He said leaning back in his chair trying to remember his life story. “Well, I’m from Hawaii. I just attend school here, and go back in the summer,” he started,” it’s because when we were younger, we all got in trouble for skipping school one day.” Obviously there was more to it, but little details. “I love to surf, but as you can see, there’s not waves for me to catch on my down time.” That was a true bummer about New York. “And what about you?”

"That would be great actually, i'd love to go eat greasy food for once. " Jodie let out a small giggle before shaking her head. "Thank you, but it's not the fact that i'm doing it for losing weight or anything like that. My sister is kind of my personal trainer you could say. My family's big on cheerleading, so they try to keep each other in shape as much as possible." She shrugged off the thoughts before hearing him saying she thinks hes great no matter what and couldn't help but blush once more. "Thank you," she blushed once more before looking down at her sandwich.
When she looked up at him she listened to what he was saying about his siblings, "you're lucky my brother isn't here yet, or he'd already be threatening you for your life." She laughed before taking a bite from the sandwich. "You don't get that you're cute a lot? That's such a lie. Come on. You're frickin adorable! Plus, you're cuter than your brother. Who I have seen around school, you're so much better than him." She offered him a smile before looking around at some girls who began screaming at each other from across the cafeteria and let out a pathetic pity laugh. She swallowed before her turned the question back on her. She thought for a second before beginning her answer.
"I'm from California and I have three older sisters and a brother like I said before... My dads a pilot so he's not really around much, and my mom is a nurse. I am probably going to end up doing the same as you, stay here go home for summer. Carly had scoliosis and had surgery which took her out for a year making it her job to train me and make me just as good as I was. She's done with recovery now and she kind of made it her goal to come back and be an amazing cheerleader before. So, that's why were here. " She shrugged looking down at her phone which was on the table between the two of them as the screen starting to vibrate like crazy.
She slid the screen to the side unlocking it before seeing a bunch of messages from Carly asking if Caleb was her boyfriend and stuff. She shut the phone off and gave a shy laugh encase Caleb had saw it. "She gets a little ahead of herself sometimes." She shook her head taking a drink from her powerade "So, you surf... Is it hard? I've never done it. You should teach me, it looks fun. There is a beach I go to that a couple days before it's going to start raining it gets awesome waves. Or from what I think would be awesome..."She shrugged with a laugh before taking another bite of her sandwich.

He let out a laugh and a goofy grin,” greasy food is the only way to go!” Sure, sometimes seeing all the oil coming from his food was gross, but only for a second. Other than that, food was food and Caleb was a growing boy. Being in shape? That was something Caleb wasn’t. “Yeah, I’m in awful shape,” he said leaning back and purposely pushing out his stomach to pat it,” in the summer, we’ll all get in great shape cause I’ll we’ll do is surf. But now, Chantel is really the only one who does anything. Oh wait, Connor lifts.” Thinking about it now, he realized that he was the only sibling who just sat around. “I’m just lazy,” he admitted with a shrug and another bite of his sandwich.
Caleb somehow felt slightly insulted when she said he should be afraid of someone younger than him. He scoffed lightly at the thought,” I think he’s the lucky one in this situation.” He was pretending to sound all tough, but one look at Caleb easily showed he had the temperament of a fucking teddy bear. And he wasn’t quite sure if being ‘adorable’ was a compliment either, but it was true. Caleb wasn’t exactly in his ‘sexy’ prime quite yet. He was still baby faced. “Thanks,” he said,” most girls go for my brother. Glad I finally have a fan!” He felt quite accomplished at the thought. Hell yeah, finally someone was Team Caleb for a change.
He listened with interest as he finally finished his half. “Cali is pretty awesome,” he added,” we have family there. Waves are pretty sick.” Sometimes commuting for school purposes sucked. While Caleb really did like Somerset, he missed being able to surf whenever. Being back from break was bittersweet, and he missed home like crazy. He wasn’t sure how he felt about knowing Carly’s back condition, some people didn’t like others to know their medical issues. “Well, glad she’s okay,” he nodded,” back injuries are tough.” He remembered the time he fell out of a tree and swore he broke he back. Obviously he had been a little dramatic, but it had hurt like hell.
Jodie seemed to frazzled by something on her phone, but Caleb hadn’t been quick enough to look at her screen, not that he wanted to. He wasn’t the kind of person to get into other people private phone messages. He was slightly confused as she started talking and could only tilt his head to the side as he tried to piece it together. When it finally clicked he mouthed the words ‘oh’ to himself and nodded at how smart he had been. Obviously it had something to do with her sister… maybe. “Is it hard?” he brought his hand up to grab his chin,” I mean, I think it’s easy, but I’ve also been surfing since I was born.” It wasn’t something someone could learn in one day, that’s for sure. It took time to really appreciate the sea and all it was worth. “If you’re patient, surfing is great,” he thought out loud,” but Cali has some nice waves.”
