Name: Aubrey Milton Sawyer. Regardless to what anyone says about the name Aubrey being a girl's name; it's a unisex name and not only that but the name of Mrs. Sawyer's great-great grandfather who was a member of the Underground Railroad movement. Yes, Aubrey Rogers was African-American and yes, he was kicked it with Harriet Tubman. As for his middle name, Milton, well that was the name of his grandfather on his father, George's side. Milton was a unique name in the 90's because it was so old fashioned and extremely forgotten and that was why Amelia agreed with her husband.
Birthday/Age: May 5th, seventeen years old.
Clubs/Activities: Football and drama.
Distinguishing Attributes: Large and bright blue eyes.
Personality: There's not really anything that can rain on Aubrey's parade. He is relatively a upbeat and bubbly person. Although not smart, he is unusually wise on occasion. Even wiser than those surrounding him which some people find strange and at times — eerie. Especially when he makes smart remarks without really thinking, answers to questions that even the smartest of his friends has no idea of. He livens up people's moods and takes chances. Calling Aubrey a daredevil would be an overstatement but he is open to new things and more willing to socialize with whoever regarding social status or whether or not they have two eyes or not. He also is against gender roles but that descended after his daughter, Camila was born. Impregnating Caroline is a guilt Aubrey lives with and will live with all his life. He was only thinking of himself and not her life but he really loves her and his baby girl. Aubrey sometimes thinks of that and starts to cry, suddenly without explanation. He's usually alone, though. Aubrey loves animals which is why he applied for a job at a pet food store and he supported his daughters decision in adopting pets. He is caring, as in he will take care of you until you feel better and he makes delicious cookies but no one really knows what he puts in them although it's a mixture of edible things of which he calls his special recipe.
Background: Amelia Sawyer wasn't careful when she was pregnant with her first born. It's no that she didn't care about the baby growing inside her but the Sawyer were not wealthy people. George, her husband begged her not to work so much but she wouldn't listen. The fear of being thrown out into the streets was bigger than taking care of her pregnancy but she wanted her baby boy to be brought into an economically stable home. Amelia had no idea she was harming her baby's neurons.
Aubrey was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on pretty spring day. The doctor found nothing wrong with him, just that his eyes were gorgeous like his father's. George and Amelia were convinced and took their newborn son home. Aubrey brought joy to whoever carried him, spent with him. As a baby he was smiling and as he grew older that smile never faded. Although, he developed slightly sharper teeth that made him appear as though he had fangs. Aubrey bit a family member, only playing around but he accidentally made them bleed. Oops. As a result of that he never bit anyone ever again.
The Sawyer family moved from Louisiana to New York when Aubrey was in the first grade and his sister, Daisy was starting kindergarten. The mocking of the kids at school made it impossible for Aubrey to make friends. They made fun of his Cajun accent of which Aubrey was proud of because it set him aside from the typical American accent. Although most kids thought he was weird and often confused him for being from Texas. However, Aubrey was not alone. Leonardo Wilkes too had an accent of which he was also mocked for often. They became friends instantly and then arose Aubrey's new found love on Riley — a Hello Kitty t-shirt.
Something Aubrey was also heavily criticized for was his favorite color. He liked the color pink but he didn't understand why people were so alarmed. It was only a color! It didn't define his boy-ee-ness. Anyways, Leonardo and Riley never questioned him and neither did their new friend, Mark Daniels. Aubrey really looked up to Mark, he wore Hawaiian shirts and played the ukulele. Whenever new plays or talent shows were planned, Aubrey asked his friends (practically begged them) to join them. He was the one always pushing them to get out there and show people their talents. Aubrey never overreacted to distant critic but he did react to critique directed toward him yet his memory made him forget all the negative comments people made about him.
When Leonardo and Riley moved to Italy, their group began to disintegrate. Mark was becoming more popular and known around the school while Aubrey was just floating around, making friends here and there with different people. He started to become interested in football and joined a small group of guys who also enjoyed playing the sport. They played every evening in an abandoned field located in the Bronx close to Aubrey's home. He was closest to George, because his name was just like his father's and George was an overall good person. What Aubrey can't believe is what happened that night.
The Bronx wasn't a safe place to be at at night. Especially not in the ghetto where there were frequent shootings. While the small team was walking back home after a victory, a shot set off. The middle schoolers scattered, running off to hide away from the raining bullets. Aubrey was scared out of his wit and his body jumped up then down at every loud boom coming from the guns. He closed his eyes and made pretend that these were just fireworks or that it was all a bad dream. However, the sound of George wheezing beside him. Aubrey turned his head slowly, fearful as to what he would see. So much blood was coming out of George's chest, he had been stricken in the heart but he fainted seconds after on Aubrey. He was gone, but why? Aubrey couldn't understand why a good person like George was murdered.
Aubrey was saddened but his dad told him that there was no chance that George would have lived a normal life after being shot in the heart. He'd only be suffering and he was in a better place — in heaven. Only the good die young. George was very good and Aubrey felt better after talking to his dad.
Caroline Bouvier had been Aubrey's long time crush and he was certain that she was sweet on him too. However, he really wanted her. So he figured that if women tied men down by having their babies then why can't boys do the same? Aubrey was fourteen when he came up with this "grand" idea. It didn't sound as bad as saying knocking up someone on purpose and ruining their reputation and life. So, Aubrey more or so seduced Caroline and that's how the cookie crumbled.
When Caroline found out she was pregnant, she was not happy. It made Aubrey feel terrible but he assured her that if she didn't want the baby or him that if was okay because he did. If wasn't a pity statement but an honest one. Despite that the baby was a product of both of them, that didn't mean that Caroline needed to keep her. Aubrey's parents were extremely disappointed but they were surprised when Aubrey commented about him wanting for that to happen. Maybe working too hard damaged Aubrey's pretty little head.
Caroline wanted the baby and it made Aubrey happy but she wasn't happy with him. He felt really guilty of ruining nine months of her life and he apologized to her and brought her food and satisfied her cravings be it anything. Once Camila was born, the two decided to take a break. Aubrey thought that maybe he wasn't in love with Caroline but he just thought she was pretty? He made an attempt at flirting with girls, but whenever he kissed them, all he could think about was Caroline. Only her and it was worse when it came to sleeping with them because he could only see Caroline. The mother of his child — his one true love?
Once he realized this Caroline was dating some other guy whose name he forgot every single time. He was afraid of losing her to a guy who would probably become a father to his baby girl! Aubrey rushed to speak to Caroline which ended up in them getting back together. He was sure about his decision, he was going to have a family even if he was seventeen years old.
