It had been nearly twenty-six hours since Finn had arrived at the hospital. Parker hadn't slept a bit and neither had their mom. She was scared for her son, for both of them really. When Parker returned from the hallway, he sat next to her as she wrapped her arms around him. "Bee is on her way." Parker said in a quiet voice. "You need to go home and sleep, Mom. I'll be okay by myself." He said, knowing her answer. He was almost sixteen! He could stay at a hospital by himself, couldn't he? All she did was force a smile and shake her head. "Not until Beatrice gets here, Park." She ran her fingers through her youngest son's hair and rested her head on his shoulder. Her eyes tired from crying and an extreme lack of sleep. He leaning into her and wiped his face from any stray tears that had gotten stuck. "I love you, Mom." He said, quietly. Soon enough, her breathing had gotten heavier and Parker knew she had fallen asleep. It was nearing midnight now, and Parker was scared to let her drive home so delirious, so, as an added precaution, he just let her rest for a little bit while he sat there and stared at his lifeless brother. Finn had literally risked his life to safe his little brother, and Parker was mad at himself for not fighting harder. He could feel his eyes watering when he thought about what he saw when he came out of his room and the officers were arresting their dad. He thought Finn was dead. Parker impatiently continued to check the time on his phone, a minute passing by every now and again and it seemed like forever that Bee was taking. In the mean time, Parker just sat there and then text Bee what floor and what room they were in so she could just come in without getting too worked up. He knew this was going to be hard for her and honestly, he wasn't sure why he told Bee before he told Cassidy. He would rather have Cassidy here for comfort, but Bee was the most logical and best bet for Finn's recovery.

It was kind of like a mini little family reunion at Kendra's house tonight; Annabel, her husband and their children were spending Christmas at the house so the whole little family (sans Esme, Cooper, Peyton and Lorelai, of course) were hanging out just watching movies and eating some delicious gingerbread cookies. She almost decided not to answer the call from Parker because she didn't want to interrupt their nice little family bonding time. She only did answer it because she was secretly hoping that it was going to be Finn saying that his phone had fallen into a bathtub or toilet and that was why he hadn't called her at all. She was unfortunately very, very wrong in her assumption and honestly the news made her want to give up. She didn't want to go to the hospital and deal with this information. She just wanted to stay right here, snuggle into her mommy's arms and forget the world for an hour or two at least. Why wasn't she allowed to just give up and sob? Why was everyone else able to break down and she always had to be the strong older sister? Or strong girlfriend in this case, she supposed.
She didn't have that luxury though as Parker seemed to really need her to come down so she forced herself to push her doubts about her relationship back in her head and go right back into the living room to explain the situation. "Mom, I um.... I really need to head down to the hospital because Finn is... Finn's in a coma and Parker needs me." She expected her mother to just nod a little to let her know that it was okay or maybe even ask what was wrong and send her on her way but she actually got angry at her second oldest daughter for having dare try to leave bonding time early. "Beatrice Elaine Reynolds, how could you be so selfish? How dare you do this to your family? We get very little time alone with your siblings and you'd rather spend it with your boyfriend who didn't even care enough to call you?" "Mom... He...." She was going to try to explain to the best of her ability but Annabel spoke up instead and just motioned her out the door, mouthing, "I'll take care of this".
She was half tempted to stick around by the front door and eavesdrop on the conversation but she knew that it wasn't worth the risk of getting caught and not being able to see Parker and Finn... Especially if he didn't wake up from his coma. She'd never recover if she missed out on her only opportunity to say goodbye. She'd always thought that speeding to the hospital was both cliche and irresponsible but right now all of that went out the window. She actually figured speeding was smart right now since she was such a hysterical mess so less time on the road. It didn't end up working out like that as she had forgotten to factor in the whole icy roads thing. Damn snow. She nearly lost control of the car a couple of times on the way and kind of wondered to herself if she was going to end up heading to the hospital in an ambulance instead. Why did that sound favorable? If she could then she'd happily take Finn's place in that hospital bed. She didn't have nearly as much to live her as he did.
Despite it already being a risky drive, she decided to call her youngest sister and give her a little bit of the lowdown meaning what little information that she actually knew. She didn't know much about Canada or the time zone difference so she didn't really know if she would actually answer her. Thankfully she did and the sisters were able to talk for the remainder of the drive and Beatrice actually felt slightly more relaxed. Lorelai had provided her some much needed comforting and assured her that everything would be absolutely fine and Finn would definitely recover. How did she manage to do that? How did she somehow make her feel better when she didn't even know what was going on? This is one of those moments where all Bee could think about was how grateful that she was for her larger than usual family and close in age siblings. She couldn't imagine how Parker felt right now since he could possibly lose his only brother or their mother potentially losing one of her two sons. She prayed to never personally be in that situation.
Finding a parking spot and walking to the right floor was all just a blur to Bee after she reached the hospital room... Finn just looked so lifeless, so not like himself and that's when she lost it all over again. She let out these heartbreaking choking ugly sobs that she didn't think anyone should ever experience. What was she going to do without him? They'd only been together a short time yet she already couldn't bare to think of a life where he was gone. "Oh my God... Parker... What happened?"

Parker wiped his face on the sleeve of his hoodie and pulled his knees up to his chest. He had calmed down enough to where he just had a few sniffles here and there as he stared at his brother. Not too long after, Bee was coming into the room which woke up their mom and startled Parker. "Oh, honey." Carolyn said, wrapping her son's girlfriend up in her arms. She really liked Bee and the whole relationship they had. She knew this was hard for her to see, but Bee had to understand that it was hard on all of them. She let her go and took a seat in one of the chairs so that she could wake up before making her fifteen minute ride home.
When she had left, she said her goodbyes and left the kids with money to eat on for the night. She would return in the morning after she had called work and let them know what was going on and why she wouldn't be in. Parker turned to Bee, finally able to answer her question. "Did.. did Finn ever tell you what happens at our dad's?" He said, pausing to look up at her. He explain how bad things actually were when they went there, and how much worse it got when Finn went alone. Then he told her about what happened that landed them here. Parker didn't want to cry in front of Bee because everyone in the school already thought he was a whimp, but he couldn't help it.
Parker, for the first time, hugged Bee tightly. Tears ran quietly down his cheeks as he apologized for everything. "I'm so sorry, Bee. I just.." He pulled away from her and wiped his eyes on his sleeve. "I didn't know who else to call. I'm sorry if I pulled you away from anything important but I needed someone that knew Finn as closely as you do." Parker's voice was choppy and hoarse and his eyes were red from crying for so long. "I'm sorry, Bee."

"I'm so sorry, Carolyn." Beatrice had nearly forgotten that their mother was going to be there. How could she not realize that? Of course she would be there in case her one of her sons were to cease to live. What kind of a mother wouldn't? Okay maybe her own mother wouldn't exactly drop everything to show up but Parker and Finn's mother seemed far too dedicated to do something so cruel. She was even kind enough to treat her, the lowly girlfriend, with kindness and respect during this difficult time. She couldn't honestly say that she would be so sweet if the roles were reversed and this were her own son laying in a hospital bed.
She wanted to rush right to Finn's hospital bed and just sit at his side until he eventually woke up but she didn't dare move a muscle closer to him until their mother left the room. She didn't want to risk imposing on their little family. She knew that she would one day marry Finn but that didn't mean that his family or even Finn felt the same way just yet. She was just about to go get a closer look at her poor lifeless boyfriend when Parker started explaining to her what had happened. It didn't come as too much of a surprise that his injuries weren't caused entirely by lacrosse. She'd had suspicions for as long as she could remember and this only confirmed in her mind that she should have pressed harder for more information.. Maybe she could have saved his life. "Oh Parker..."
She didn't expect the hug but she didn't exactly push him away. "It's fine.. I mean nothing is more important than being here for Finn... and for you. This must be like hell for you to see him hurt like this." Duh. Of course he didn't like seeing his brother in a fucking coma! Why didn't she ever think before she spoke? "I... I feel so guilty right now. I should have protested, I should have made him come over and I failed. I failed him as a girlfriend like he seriously deserves so much better than anything that I could ever give him." She didn't mean to make this all about her at all. She was just genuinely feeling like she could have some so much more than she had for Finn before it was too late.
She slowly made her way to Finn's side and gently stroked the side of his face, "Hi... I heard on television that people in comas can still hear things around them and I don't know if that's true or not... It's probably not but it's worth a try." She didn't know if she was really allowed to touch him so she tried to be coy as she held onto her hand in her free one. "I just want you to know that I'm here and I'm not going anywhere. I love you." What if that was the last time that she ever said that to him? She turned to Parker and bit down on her bottom lip before asking something that she prayed that he would know the answer to. "Do you think that he knew? I mean.. Do you think that he knew how much that I love him?"

Parker shook his head, "No, no. Bee, you're amazing for Finn. Maybe you two don't see it but I do. When he's been around you, he comes home and just glows. Finn never smiled. Then he met you. He was in a bad place when you came into his life." Parker said, sitting in the chair. "I just wish he had told you that." Parker grew quiet and watched Bee like a hawk as she went up to his brother.
Parker had kicked himself this whole time for not doing anything but hiding like a scared child in his room while his brother was downstairs getting his life taken away with every blow their father delivered. He shook his head because he could feel the hot tears wanting to come back. He looked from Finn to Bee when she asked him if he knew. "I think he did. You were what kept him going when he didn't think he could anymore."
He didn't know where Finn would be if he hadn't met this girl. Just before, he had started to seclude himself from the world. He barely spoke and Parker knew deep down that something was going to happen. Needless to say, Finn being in a coma was not the first time Parker prepared to lose his brother. He sniffled and cleared his throat as he pulled out his phone. "I'm going to go call Cassidy and let her know what's going on." He said, just now seeing her text.
When he came back in, he stopped and watched Bee and how she was so gentle with such a delicate being. "Cass will be here later. I'll probably head down to the cafeteria and get us all something to eat when she does get here." Parker said, taking his seat again. Parker could feel how tired he was from a mix of the stress, worry, crying and overall lack of sleep and was sure that he looked rough. He hadn't brushed his hair or changed his clothes since they got to the hospital.

Hearing all of this from Parker was probably supposed to be comforting to Beatrice but she just felt even worse about herself and all of the things that she should have done to help Finn but chose not to. She'd been so afraid of finding out something that she didn't want to hear or pushing him away that she didn't even stop to think that this could be a life or death situation. What if their father had really killed him tonight? Or what if his brain activity just stopped? There were so many terrible things that could still happen to him. She was still at constant risk of losing the one person that she loved. It used to be that her sisters were her greatest mountain to climb when it came to boys. She wasn't perky, upbeat and adventurous like Esme or blunt and exciting like Peyton and little Lorelai... Adorable. Yep, the best way to describe her baby sister was 'adorable'; everything about her was so cute and dainty like a newborn foal or a precious kitten.
They didn't do it on purpose and she knew that much without a doubt in her mind. It wasn't their fault that previous boyfriends had fallen in love just a little with various parts of her sister. Paul had appreciated Peyton's 'spirited attitude about the world', Derek like Esme's 'daring behavior' and Gregory, despite being a creepy amount of years older than her, had simply fallen for Lorelai's big doe-y blue eyes and her lost little puppy innocence. That was one of the things that she loved so much about Finn - he was kind to her sisters so she didn't turn into a raging protective mama bear but he didn't seem like he was exactly swayed by any of them. She'd never even caught him taking little glances at Peyton when she'd strut around in her spandex shorts and bra. She just never got around to telling him how much that meant to her and well now maybe she never would.
She waited until Parker had left the room before she resumed talking to Finn as if he could actually hear her. She wanted to tell him how grateful that she was to have him, how much that she regret not helping him and how she desperately needed him to just walk up but she knew that if she opened that can of worms then she'd just break down all over again. So, she decided to go a different way and tell him all about what had happened while she was at home and the wonderful Christmas presents that were waiting for him when he was feeling better. She'd bought him a little counter top grill because she knew how much that he liked grilling and she personally couldn't wait until he got to test it out and make delicious things for her to enjoy. She'd even explained to him how difficult that it'd been to find a perfect present for his brother and all about the tattoo that she was planning on getting in honor of him. It was going to be a small anchor on her wrist to symbolize their relationship. She'd recently gotten one on her side that said 'through every dark night, there is a brighter sky' which was also sort of supposed to be for him though she'd never gotten the chance to show him.
Would she ever get the chance to? "I know that your life has been really hard, Finn and I'll... I'll understand if you quit right now and never wake up. I'll miss you for the rest of my life but I will understand if you physically just can't do it for one more minute. I hope that you fight through this and I hope that your body recovers but what's the point in living if emotionally and spiritually you've already quit? I don't want you to go and if you don't then I swear right now that I'm never going anywhere. You and I are.. infinite, endgame... everything and we'll have beautiful babies. I want lots of them, you know? I think that I want six like our own little soccer team and then they'll always have each other. That's what I loved so much about growing up with my siblings.. I've never been alone." She couldn't imagine being the type of person who only had one child. She could see Lorelai as one and done or even Peyton but she just knew that she was destined to be a stay at home mother who spent her days cooking, cleaning and driving her beautiful children to and from their various activities. Maybe they'd even space their children out so she'd always have a little one at home to snuggle. Finn would probably own a restaurant or have a cooking show and he'd come home in the evenings where they'd have a nice little family meal.
They'd discuss how lucky that they were every single night after putting everyone to bed and all of this drama would just be a distant memory. She actually allowed herself to get lost in her fantasy land before Parker came back into the room and snapped her right out of it. "I'm glad that you have Cassidy." She murmured before she started stroking the side of Finn's face again. Was that too touchy? "Do you like her, Parker? I know that we aren't really close and I don't know how that she feels about you but if you want her then go for it. If Finn doesn't make it through this then I'll live the rest of my life regretting things and I don't want you to do the same."

It was both difficult and warming to see someone other than their mother being so gentle with Finn. Parker still had his eyes glued on every move that Bee made even though, subconsciously, he knew she wouldn't hurt him. It was just stuck inside his head from years of watching his brother breaking, that everyone was out to hurt someone. The only two angels he had ever met were that of his mother and Cassidy, and now, he saw Bee as that too.
Parker had never really been religious, but he had prayed to God more in the past day than he had his entire life. He didn't care about anything right now apart from his brother waking up and being able to squeeze his hand. If he could just do that, Parker would know that everything was going to be okay. That this little piece in their fucked up world was going to make the journey. All he wanted was to know that things were going to be okay.
He was brought back into the room when Bee talked about Cassidy. He blushed hard when she asked if he liked her, but answered, "Well, she's my best friend.. that'd be weird if I liked her any more than that." Sure, it wasn't a straight answer, but he knew the real answer on the inside was yes. A sharp yes at that. "She makes me feel normal, y'know? Like the world isn't all bad and sometimes good things can happen." He said, pulling his arms inside the torso of his jacket and holding them against his chest. "You shouldn't regret." Parker continued after a short time. For being so young, he had matured a lot faster than his peers because he had to. Finn was the same way. Parker put his arms back into the sleeves and pulled a chair up beside Bee. "He's going to get through this."

It was obvious to Beatrice in that moment that Parker felt far more than friendship for miss Simmons but the last thing that she wanted to do was drag all of that out during such a sensitive moment. "Of course you like her as just a friend." Blushing when speaking of your friend was totally normal, right? She'd done the same thing when she would talk about Finn back in the day.. Wasn't it crazy to think that at one point they were denying their obvious feelings because she had a boyfriend and now here they were well here she was watching him fight for his life in the worst way. "Parker... You know better than anyone that life can be a terrible awful thing and things happen to good people that should never happen to anyone.. And you know that not everyone is nice or wants to look out for the best interest of their family and friends so that's why when you meet someone who does want to help, you should go for it." She glanced over to him and let out a small sigh before deciding to risk him screaming and continue.
"I think that Cassidy makes you happy and that's more than enough reason to try and pursue her if that's what your heart wants. What's the worst thing that could happen? She says no? Rejection doesn't hurt nearly as much as it will if you say nothing and quietly watch her date loser after loser until finally one guy sticks around. You need to look inside of you heart and decide if you can handle watching her marry someone else one day and if you can and I'm wrong then that's cool, too." She reached out to grab one of Parker's hands and gave it a gentle squeeze, "Never let something good pass you by because of fear." Who was she to talk about not telling fear stop her from living? She'd almost let fear stop her from coming here and supporting her boyfriend's family in their time of need... Parker didn't need to hear about that though.
What nineteen year old wouldn't have a moment of doubt in this situation? They hadn't been dating long and now all of the sudden she was in this uncomfortable situation where he could literally die in front of her. "God I hope so.. I know that we haven't been together for very long and I know that there's a lot of things that we've never got to.... do but I still know that he's the one for me." She was obviously talking about the fact that every time that she well got a fire burning inside herself... he um was less than interested in extinguishing it. There was even a time when she believed that his lack of interest was because of her as a person and maybe he just didn't find her sexually attractive. Cooper had even asked if it was because he was 'gay and buttfucking his 'brother' like Bert and Ernie'.
