Name Lola hope Hofmann.
Age: Sixteen
Grade: sophomore
Sport/club: She does drama, but only the behind the scenes stuff. She kind of likes doing the techy behind camera stuff anyway, she’s also in photography and film, and book club cause bby is a nerd.
Appearance: Lola is probably known for her mane of curly blonde hair. She never really knows what to do with it other than try and tame it with a brush and then leave it. Since it’s really hard to do anything else to, sometimes when she can’t tame it, she puts it up, but little pieces end up hanging all over the place on her face and cheeks which she finds annoying. Other than that the only other defining feature about her is her lips. She has pretty big lips which she tends to exenterate with dark lipstick.
She might not be the skinniest girl ever, of course she isn’t a stick, but she’s average size as well as in the height department. Her style is kind of cute girly dresses and things of that nature. She really likes to make sure she looks at least decent before she leaves and will hardly ever be seen in a pair of sweat pants. She doesn’t really like shorts either because she is insecure about her legs.
Personality: She's really happy-go-lucky type of girl. She will never be mean to anyone really, which is hard to do because she doesn't talk much. She just never finds the need, she was raised to do what she felt like, and sometimes she likes being silent it’s fin and it’s part of her that she doesn’t want to give up. She really doesn’t like being known as that mute girl, but sometimes she just can’t bring herself to find words, like maybe she has a little trouble putting the right words into a sentence and that she’ll mess it up. She in this sense is probably better off to just write it down or sign it out because she grew up doing that it’s more comfortable and easy for her.
She likes to be around people though, and she is really sweet, she probably doesn’t even have a mean bone in her body, and couldn’t say something mean to someone if she wanted to. In other respects she is super amazingly nice, and will probably do your homework for you in English class if you want. She is a pushover and she is naive, she doesn’t belong in the city but here she is looking at everything as if the world is perfect and everyone is as nice as her. Don’t confuse this for dumb though because she is actually super smart, and nerdy
She likes books, and reading them over and over again, in fact she probably is more into books then she is into real humans. She likes to be able to imagine things, and books bring her into another world. She has a very nice imagination, and will make up the craziest stories about things. So don’t expect anything really serious to come out of her when you ask her a question.
Despite not speaking she is a little bit opinionated. She respects others opinions and isn’t mean to them, but when it comes to serious issues she usually has a side and something of a solution. She believes that every human should be allowed to do what they want as long as they aren’t infringing on someone else’s rights. She is usually the light side of an argument, such as drugs she is the good child.
She has always been the good child. The kid that never did anything wrong and never messed up, she never drank and she never did drugs, she just went living life like it was a playground and stopped to smell the roses every now and then. She is super innocent when it comes to things like romance, even though she imagines some prince charming coming and sweeping her away on a magic horse into the sunset, she has yet to get that, and it might be because she holds back.
She has never been in a relationship that was more than a friends turned romantic thing when she was like eight years old. She doesn’t know how to do things in the romance department, she doesn’t understand and she sometimes doesn’t want to know. The idea of sex is like a foreign language to her and she will probably not understand it if you try and explain it to her.
She likes to do behind the scenes things, but still help out. She will never be the center of attention on a stage but she will be the girl who makes it all happen backstage. She doesn’t like when people make her the center of attention so she tries to stay quiet and not say things sometimes, she would never raise her hand in class, or try to make attention for herself. She doesn’t like it. Even if it’s something as simple as people singing happy birthday to her in class she doesn’t like the attention and will never accept it, or compliments like she should.
History: “Answer the question.” The teacher pressured the child, she was ten years old, and it was her second day in a public school. She knew the answer, but finding the words was hard. She didn’t know how to make the words come out of her mouth, everyone was looking at her. What did she say? She was on the verge of tears trying to find the right thing to say.
“Speak child,” said the teacher. The evil demon that was pressuring her to do something she didn’t want to do was her teacher. The teacher that made her want to be normal even less.
“We will not go on until you tell us the answer,” she said. Her tone seemed to be full of annoyance that she wouldn’t speak, and they did sit there, for a few minutes and at this point se refused. She knew the answer and she had signed it, and written it on her paper, but she wasn’t going to say it.
“The answer is fourteen ninety two,” someone groaned, breaking the silence in the classroom.
“I know you know,” said the annoyed teacher. “I didn’t want the answer from you,” the teacher walked back up to the front of the class room, and Lola could hear her feet tapping on the ground every step she took in those heels.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Her steps were agonizing.
“How am I supposed to teach you if you won’t communicate with me?” she asked slapping her hands down on Lola’s desk. Lola didn’t respond. She didn’t even have time to open her mouth before the teacher was speaking again. “Speak child, or I’m going to write you up.”
And that was exactly what she did.
Lola’s mother was a teenager, who on a drunk and stupid decision decided to have a child at sixteen, and made the mature decision to do what was right and give her up for adoption. Lola was never told that her adoptive mother was not her real mother, because of the closed adoption and she never knew her real parents. Had she ever wanted to meet her, her adoptive mother agreed to let her. However, Lola still believes that her adoptive parents are her real parents.
Her parents had adopted a son, Julian before her. They chose to adopt him when he was almost three years old because he was deaf, just like her mother. Her father was also short of hearing and that was how the pair met. Neither of them knew how to teach Lola to speak but she worked with a therapist when she was younger because her parents were worried she might not learn. Even then she still preferred to speak sing language as she did around her family.
She and her older brother were homeschooled for a while, because her parents feared that they would get made fun of in real school, but when Julian was older he asked to go to school, and even convinced young Lola to go along with his plan. After hearing that both children wanted to go to real school, her father allowed them, and her mother was hesitant. Her father thought it would be good for them, and sent them. This was where Lola first experienced the real world.
Julian loved school, he liked people and he was quite outgoing. Lola on the other hand tried to use her sign language skill in a class full of speaking people even though she was perfectly capable of speaking and found herself even more hesitant to speak. After a while though, and after being placed in a new class with a new teacher both children were ahead of their peers in academics and they made their parents very proud.
After that nothing tragic happened to the family, and her father decided that for the sake of her making more friends that he should send Lola to private school, they had the money to send both children, but Julian didn’t want to go. He was ok with his friends back home. Lola accepted the challenge with open arms and decided to go for it, and that is how she ended up at Somerset her freshmen year.
