www.hugamonkey.com/files/Brown-2.jpgEric got up and walked over to a much unorganized dresser, hastily moving around articles before he found the cardigan he was looking for. While he stuffed the clothes back down, so that he could again close the drawer, he spoke, “It’s a boy. I don’t know why his name’s Shaniqua but if people ask I’m going to abbreviate it to, like, Shane.” Eric shrugged on the cardigan and put on top of that a baby sling, issued to carry the baby. “This thing is anatomically correct and all that. It’s kind of spooky-looking, yea?” The plastic infant started acting up, but Eric was already on top of it. As if this child had been his for months, Eric had already put the child in the sling and was stuffing a pacifier in its mouth, shutting it up. “This baby shit is so easy,” Eric slid on his TOMs and used his lips to pull a cigarette from his current pack. “Let’s get out of here,” Eric suggested, his voice muffled from the cigarette. With a cigarette in one hand and Zander’s hand in his other, the couple made their way to the local coffee shop, and took their place in line. Many weird looks were given to the two, which Eric guessed stemmed from (A) the fact that Eric had a baby sling on and was (B) with Zander, another male and (C) they were holding hands and they were (D) so young to be adopting a child??? And then of course there was the fact that Eric was chain smoking around a child. But, hey, they sure did make a cute couple, even with Shaniqua in tote. The colored child made the couple look very posh, very “culturally aware,” or some shit like that, Eric was sure.

”Yeah I kind of like Shane better,” he really didn’t like the name shaniqua at all, but he wasn’t sure what was in the head of his partner when they named it that, but he thought it was a girl’s name. Either way he wasn’t going to say anything because it wasn’t his baby. He was glad it wasn’t his baby because it was kind of creepy looking. “It’s kind of creepy looking,” he commented. Thinking out loud when Eric said that it was anatomically correct.
He thought he was going to be able to handle the weird looks, because one if people actually looked they could probably see it was fake, but maybe not. “So the whole point of this is to not get pregnant huh?” It was kind of odd to assign two boys a baby to show them not to get pregnant because neither one of them could. In his eyes it would have made more sense to be a single parent or have a mom and a dad, because he was pretty sure where were no gay guys having babies in high school. Then again, it was the same concept sort of.
“Are you supposed to smoke around it?” he asked. That might had been why they were getting weird looks too, but he wasn’t quite sure. It was oddly hilarious though.

“Yea, it’s really freaking looking,” Eric agreed, and pushed it down so it hid in its sling. After taking a final drag, Eric dropped the cigarette and squished it with his toe. “Um, I don’t really know if I’m supposed to smoke around it, but I don’t think anyone will be able to tell?” Eric shrugged and then held the door open for Zander. “After you,” he said, lifting his eyebrows and smiling up at his boyfriend.
The Coffee Shop, as always, was crowded; full of people who were on their way to work or break and just needed caffeine fix. So, of course, such prestigious 9-to-5ers didn’t hesitate to glance distastefully at the sight of the unusual couple. Eric reach over and held Zander’s hand for support, since the situation was making him a little self-cautious, which was silly but he couldn’t help it. “What are you ordering?” Eric asked, eyeing the menu that was above the register. He leaned into Zander and his head was almost rested on his shoulder. Eric liked this, being close to his boyfriend. Why hadn’t they don’t this more often? Eric kissed Zander’s cheek and returned to his shoulder, a happy sigh escaping his lips.

“Well when that baby grows up and has lung cancer don’t say I didn’t warn you,” he teased him. “I mean considering its name and the fact that one of it’s dad’s tried to set it on fire I think it will have bigger issues though,” he couldn’t decide what was going to be the bigger issue. He was pretty sure if it was a real baby it would have a very fucked up life, but it wasn’t like it was his project anyway. “I mean It would be ok though because it has the best father that I could think of,” he said. He was intentionally trying to be sweet, with that, because that baby was really freaky and the weird looks were making him laugh on the inside. He wasn’t sure how to deal with that though, because he did get those sometimes, but not that many.
“Hmm…” that’s a good question. He replied. It was really weird because he was here constantly, well sometimes. He had like times where he would get coffee constantly and then other times that he didn’t, it was weird. He smiled when Eric kissed him on the cheek. He was liking all the affection that he was getting, even if it was in public.
