Full Name: Alexander Shane McMichael if you call him Alexander he will hurt you. Call him Alex. 'K thanks.
Age: 18
Gender: Male, you can check if you like... but only if you're a hot girl.
Grade: Junior
Sports/Clubs: N/A
Appearance: Alex has long brown hair, which is usually swept to one side of his face, and hangs down into his eyes a bit, it doesn’t bug him however. He has brown eyes which are hidden behind sunglasses most of the time. He is a pale boy, who doesn’t work out enough. While he does a little, he isn’t the most muscular guy around, he’s about average height standing around five seven.
His sense of style is normal for a guy his age, he isn’t too picky about what he wears and tends to wear whatever he feels like wearing. Sometimes it doesn’t match, and sometimes it does. He aslo owns an extensive collection of sunglasses. Most of his clothes are simple things like t shirts and jeans though.
Ooc: I suck at these Sorry.
Personality: Although Alex tries to hide the fact that he is gradually becoming blind, it definitely shows through in the fact that he doesn’t drive and tends to only go places he know how to navigate. Crowds scare him, since he can’t see a of of the things most people can and tends to run into everyone. He tends to hang out with a group of small friends instead of a large group of people. That’s ok because he tends to use pity as a device to pick up girls.
Alex doesn’t believe in true love, and doesn’t think he’s ever going to find a girl he likes like that instead, he has the whole man whore type thing going on, the same as his dad he tends to leave girls after a night with them. He doesn’t call them back, or talk to them again, and tends to come off as a jerk. While he actually does have a sweet side under all of that, he doesn’t show it much, and again uses it as a device to pick up girls. The one thing he hates is when people call him blind, because he’s scared to be blind. He tends to associate the name with that feeling. Instead he corrects them and will probably be hurt if you call him that.
Alex stil has the dream of being an artist, but he assumes it isn’t possible, and although he does try often ends up with no results, except a few random sketches, which while he as enough vision left to see if the image is large and close to his face, the blind spots are what makes it difficult for the most part. Alex doesn’t have the best grades and tends to pull an attitude with teachers because of it, but he does end up passing most of his classes just barley.
Background: Alex was born to two loving parents, Lynn and Jason McMichael. At first his life was pretty normal, and as a child he was spoiled to say the least, Alex was raised ina home that was well off. His both of his parents were lawyers, in fact they met in law school, and they both worked long hours and never saw each other much. Which lead to their divorce when Alex was four years old. He stayed with his father for the remaining part of his life, and although his father did bring home lots of random women, he wasn’t a bad father.
When Alex was nine he noticed that his vision was becoming blurry, but like most children of his age, he didn’t say anything. It was around the time he turned eleven that it had gotten worse, accompanied by difficulty adjusting to lights. His father took him to an eye doctor, who prescribed him glasses to deal with the blurry vision, because of a teachers complain to his father that he was squinting to read the board.
Three months later, with time to adjust to the glasses Alex’s vision was still the same, not good. So his father took him back to the doctor and demanded they fix his son’s eyes. The eye doctor couldn’t figure out what was going on with Alex’s vision and referred him to a different eye doctor, and from there he went to another. It was a year before someone finally diagnosed Alex with Stargardt’s disease, which in laments terms in a gradual decrease in the vision of the patient, until they become legally blind, or even completely blind.
At first he didn’t understand what was wrong with him. Alex could see fine before, why couldn’t they fix his vision? It got worse for years, since there is no cure for the disease, by the time Alex was fifteen his vision was about 20/60 and getting worse. He developed blind spots in his central vision, and didn’t know what to do with himself. He’d always wanted to be an artist, and until that point he could do art with a little difficulty, but he knew his vision was getting to bad.
One October night Alex had had enough, he was getting made fun of in school, because he couldn’t play sports like a normal kid, and he had to have large print books, in fact he had been labeled a freak for wearing sunglasses in class, and he didn’t want to live anymore. So he went into the bathroom, and took a handful of whatever pills his father had left in the medicine cabinet. An hour later one of his father’s whores found him passed out on the bathroom floor when she went to use the bathroom, and called an ambulance.
He ended up getting his stomach pumped and spent six months in a rehabilitation center for kids who were suicidal, and then his father sent him to Somerset, to get out of town, and Alex has been here since his sophomore year. Which he repeated because of the school he missed in the rehab place. His current vision is about 20/100, meaning he can see what normal people see from 100 feet away at 20 feet. He can still see some objects, and is learning braille, to help him when he loses his vision completely. He tends to wear sunglasses wherever he goes because a doctor told him it may help him.
Other:
- Alex doesn’t believe in Love, if you tell him you love someone he’ll tell you it’s just in your head.
- Alex would love to be an artist someday, but unfortunately, because of his condition he doesn’t see that happening.
- He wears sunglasses wherever he goes most of the time, because the doctor told him that there’s a chance it will help save what’s left of his vision.
