Anya & Oakley || Teacher lounge

(I'm just pretending this happened the day before the shooting) Today was stressful to say the least for Anya. She'd had a student make a vulgar sexual pass at her during her first period math class and it all seemed to go down hill from there. She'd written Chase Parrish a detention slip for his comment when he informed her that she was just being a cunt and how he retracted his previous statement about wanting to stick his 'big fat cock down her throat'. No fun. She didn't so much mind that he no longer wanted to violate her sexually because she really didn't want him like that but she did find it quite offensive that he would think it was even remotely acceptable to call her a 'cunt'. All that got her through the day was the knowledge that she had a wonderful lunch waiting for her. Was it a little sad and possibly downright pathetic that she was twenty-three and the only thing that got her excited was her very child like lunch.
She figured that it wasn't going to be a great day so she'd spent a little extra time making the cutest bunny sandwich shapes and cutting her fruit into stars. She'd also packed some fruit gushers which wasn't really all that creative but they were her main addiction right now. She ate them pretty much all day even when she was suppose to be teaching a lesson plan. How had she not gotten into trouble for that? Could she get into trouble for that? It couldn't be against the rules, could it? She wasn't entirely sure since she hadn't been paying much attention when they hired her.
Her bizarre thoughts were interrupted when she noticed that the teacher lounge was.. empty. Where the llamas was everyone? She didn't like the idea of eating alone but did she really have a choice if nobody was here? Who was she suppose to rant about Chase to? Who was she going to manipulate into buying her a chocolate bar?

It had been a stressful first half of the day, what with it being "shark week" in oceanography and that meant shark dissections were beginning. Personally this was his favorite unit. He loved talking about sharks and there were quite a few movies out there that were both enjoyable and educational. Last week he'd played his favorite: one about a teenager with a video camera that recorded his entire trip around the world looking to protect sharks. You could say this shark unit was a bit of an obsession with Oakley. But the dissections always caused problems.. especially among the girls. It wasn't to be offensive, but Oakley could always tell which girls were going to faint, complain, or both. And today, not even ten minutes into the lesson, and Esme Reynolds was dramatically collapsing out of her chair and into oblivion. Bothered but liable, Oakley stopped the lesson and brought her to the nurse in his arms. Which may not have been the best choice, but he couldn't get the nurse upstairs fast enough and she'd hit her head on the ground. He figured she was more than fine, but when you're liable...
Needless to say, today had been rough. Not only had two more girls fainted, but he'd slit open his left thumb while explaining how to cut down the side of the shark. Now he had a huge bandage wrapping fully around it, and couldn't bend it whatsoever. Today had been the first day that he'd sworn in front of his students. Awesome.
A bit shaken up and a tad angry, Oakley hurriedly made his way to the teacher's lounge when the last bell rang. He'd prepared himself a pretty awesome turkey, tomato and cheese sandwich and knew it was calling his name. When he got there, though, after bursting through the door and swinging open the fridge, he about died when he realized someone had taken it and left a "sorry whoever's sandwich this way... IOU".
"FUCK," he practically yelled, smashing his forehead into the freezer and digging around to see what he might be able to eat. There was a piece of chocolate cake near the back, and some tomato and cheese cabob looking things on a dish from yesterday. It was gonna have to do. Thankfully, he still had his Coke bottle. Grabbing the sparse food items, Oakely closed the fridge and turned around to see a woman sitting all by herself, eyes wide, staring at him. "Oh jesus.. I'm sorry. I, uh.. I didn't know anyone else was in here. Probably shoulda checked.. shit. I'm sorry, man," he said, eyebrows pushing in as he approached her table.
"Can I sit with yeh to make up for it? Sometimes people tell me I make good jokes," he tried with a smile as he pulled out the seat across from her with his foot and took a seat. "I'm Oakley, by the way. Oakley Barca. Oceans and Enviro. I don't think I've met you?" Reaching to the middle of the table, Oakley grabbed a clear plastic fork from the silverware cup and stuck it into his cake.

Anya grew up believing that saying words like 'fuck' was almost an unforgivable sin so she was quite surprised when she heard the man yell it. She tried not to stare but she was honestly curious as to what he was doing. Had something terrible happened? Maybe, like her, he was just having a difficult day and cursing was his way of venting his frustrations. Who was she to judge him when she didn't even know him? So, she tried not to make any sort of assumptions about him but she couldn't stop herself from watching him with those big eyes of her's. Was this rude? Probably but if he didn't find out then there was no harm in it.
Crackers. She felt her cheeks burning when he noticed her looking at him. What was she suppose to say? And now he was apologizing.. Should she just accept and pretend that he was the one in the wrong even though she knew that she had been intrusive? "I'm.. I should be saying that I'm sorry. I know better than to stare." She hated how terrible that she was with the opposite gender. Why couldn't she be more confident like her fellow celibate friend, Alison? She obviously had no clue that the reason that her friend wasn't at lunch today was because she was busy having sex with her new boo thing, Dino. She had a theory that most of the students and teachers at this school were actually virgins but too scared to admit so they lied to look cool. Like Cooper Reynolds! She really doubted that he'd fooled around with ninety-nine girls already! He was seventeen! How could he have done so much in so little time? Wasn't it impossible to have sex more than once a day?
"I'd like it if you joined me. I'm Anya Rose and I teach math.. I'm also the sponsor of the celibacy club and God Squad." It wasn't a lie. She had been feeling a little lonely right now and she did still want to vent about her day to someone. "Having a rough day? I understand the feeling. I had a student named Chase Parrish call me a cunt in my first period class because I didn't find his sexual comments humorous." She nodded slowly as she took her plastic knife and cut her sandwich right down the center, "Here.. You don't have much food and I have plenty." She didn't want to seem like she was too stingy to share with a fellow teacher in need.

Oakley smiled when the woman began apologizing. He thought it was silly, but sweet. So he just kept smiling until he felt he could speak. That came along when she brought up having a rough day. "Sure am," he said, snorting a bit as he started to gnaw on one of the cheese balls skewered on the little stick. He looked up, though, when he heard the name 'Chase Parrish' and listened with wide eyes when she said he'd made a sexual pass at her. "That kids always up to something," he said, trying to sound professional and not straight out call the boy a dick. "Sorry you went through that. Kinda worse than what I had to deal with.. y'know, personal attacks. That sucks." He took another bite.
"We started shark dissection today in Ocean... had three girls pass out, carried one to the nurse, and cut my thumb up pretty bad. Rough morning," he said, rolling his eyes as he finished off the cheese and looked up again to see her handing a half of sandwich towards him. "Oh no its fine," he said, waving his hand in front of it and shaking his head. "Really, I'm alright, thanks." But god, did he want that sandwich! These cheeses and tomatoes were not doing it. That cake looked good.. but it certainly wouldn't satisfy his hunger.
"So why've I never seen you around?" he asked, picking up the second tomato/cheese combo and pulling off one of the tomatoes.

Oakley's cheese and tomato combination really didn't look like it was going to be enough so Anya simply placed the sandwich next to him and left it there. She wasn't going to force it down his throat but she also wasn't going to let him reject her offer. How could he not want some of this sandwich? She'd made homemade jelly for goodness sake! "I love sharks.. Girls these days are such wimps." She didn't mean to sound like a mean judgmental person but she just didn't understand why someone would be so grossed out by a dead shark. It wasn't like it was going to be able to jump up and bite them! And crying or fainting over it wasn't going to bring it back to life. "I mostly stick to eating in my classroom with Alison but she's been so busy with her new boyfriend that she doesn't really do that anymore." She shrugged like it was no big deal but it was sort of sad to be the single girl in a crowd of well happy couples.
"I hate this job sometimes, you know? The students can be little jerks and they always make personal comments or at least certain ones and it's awkward for me." She felt a tad guilty complaining about her job to a basic stranger but she knew that he would probably be able to understand what she was going through. "I love teaching these kids but sometimes.. It's like you try really hard to make them feel like they can do anything but they just don't get it and they fight you every step of the way like this one girl in my class.. She's a wonderful person but she never focuses and she thinks the square root of a number is ostrich.. Bee Reynolds if you know her."
She hadn't really looked at him much until now but he was actually pretty cute. How had she not noticed him before this? He had a face that she would remember.

"I feel yeh," Oakley said, eyeing the sandwich she'd left at his side. He wanted to eat it, but was trying so hard not to. He really didn't want to deny this woman her whole lunch, that was rude! Sure she'd offered it to him, but if it wasn't for the show he'd just put on, then she wouldn't have had to and probably wouldn't have even noticed him as he made his way to and from the fridge. He stopped thinking about the sandwich, though, when she mentioned Bee Reynolds and couldn't help but snort. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't laugh," he said through some pretty obvious chuckles. "She's the same way in my classes. I just.. I don't get her. I mighta been messed up at her age but I wasn't like that."
The laughing continued for a while and he even got her to laugh a little too. When they calmed a bit, Oakley sighed and sat back in his chair, eyeing the sandwich again. "Y'know.. I'm so against taking your food for two reasons," he said, leaning forward and putting two fingers up, "One: I don't wanna take your food. And two: I had a pretty fuc-,uh, fantastic sandwich prepared for myself." Stopping, he smirked a bit and straightened up in his chair, brushing off his chest and tilting his head to the side. "Little known fact.. I'm actually quite the chef," he said in an overly 'manly' voice, trying to get her to smile again.
"You should come over some time. I'll make you the best damn dinner you've ever had," he added back in his normal voice again, leaning forward and resting his chin on his hands. He hadn't really meant to sound like he was asking her out.. but, well, it kinda came off as that. He wasn't gonna take it back, though. She was awfully pretty. "What'd you say your name was again? Anya? Are you Russian?"

"You should come over some time"
Anya raised a brow; was he trying to ask her out? He barely knew her! A part of her was slightly suspicious because what kind of a person asks someone to come over for dinner when they barely know them? But on the other hand, he didn't seem like a horrible murdering rapist and he did get hired here which clearly meant that he didn't have a criminal record and could pass a background check. "Yeah, I'd love to come over sometime and you could show me. I can make really good salads and sandwiches.. I only eat vegetarian so I don't really have to worry too much about actually cooking things like meats or fish." She pushed the sandwich a little closer to him and smirked. "Are you sure that you don't want to just take a bite? I made the jam all on my own and it was freaking awesome. I have a whole jar at home and it's not at all hard to do it." It was a little complicated at first because she wasn't following the directions and didn't really have all the right ingredients but she figured it out relatively quickly.
"Yeah, it's Anya Jean Rose and I'm not Russian. My parents had seven boys before I was born and they wanted a girly girl name like they considered Anna but they didn't really like that because it was too plain. So, they heard from a couple of their friends that Anya means grace in Russian and they liked that. Jean is just because they had a little theme going on with the names so first names with A's and then four letter J middle names." She had a bad habit of rambling and telling stories that nobody really cared about. She didn't usually notice it when she was doing it but when she finally did, she felt awkward as heck. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to just go on and on like that about my family."
What if he retracted his invitation to come over for dinner now? She had just pretty much embarrassed herself by sharing all of that useless information with him. Why would he care about her family? It wasn't like they were going to get married!

"Oh well if you made it, I guess I kinda have to try it," Oakley said, looking quite surprised. He hadn't expected her to make her own jelly.. that seemed kinda advanced. Even he'd never tried that. So it was worth the shot to at least take a bite... or just ingest the whole thing like a vacuum. Which is what he did. "Not bad, man," he said happily, running the back of his thumb around the corner of his mouth to swipe off a few crumbs.
When Anya began with her name story, Oakley just sort of sat back and listened. He hadn't at all expected her to go on a rant about the meaning of her entire name. But it was kinda sweet. She was warming up to rather quickly and he appreciated the fact that she was so willing to talk to him.
"My name is Oakley cuz.. well there's no reason. And my middle name is Joseph cuz they liked the name Joseph," Oakley said, smiling a bit uncomfortably, but laughing nonetheless. "Oh but my brother's names are Farley and Bentley. So we kinda got this l-e-y thing going on, I guess," he added, pointing his fingers like guns at her as he winked and moved onto the piece of cake he'd found.
"Want some cake?" he offered, reaching for another fork and stabbing a piece then handing it to her. "I insist that you take it since I ate your delicious jam."

"Oh I couldn't possibly take your cake!" Anya started before she looked down at the delicious chocolate cake. How could she refuse chocolate cake? It was one of the many guilty pleasures that she had and she didn't really want to seem rude by refusing his offer after he had finally accepted her sandwich. She took the fork with a small smile but she was a tad nervous. What if he thought that she was a pig over this? She just bit the bullet figuratively and well literally bite the cake. "This is really delicious cake." When was it not really good cake? Was it even possible for something with chocolate to be gross? "I kind of have a chocolate addiction." She said this as she accidentally got a bit of frosting on her nose like a sloppy mess failure. Great.
She wiped it off quickly with a napkin and looked down at the table. Why was she always such a loser? She suddenly felt her nerves building again and she didn't know what she was suppose to say. Why was it that something so silly could make her so concerned? She didn't want to say the wrong thing and make herself even more uncomfortable than she already was. "So... Where did you grow up? I know that's a horribly lame question but I figure that it's the start, right?" She knew that it was kind of a childish way to get to know someone but there wasn't really anything else to say, was there?
She could have probably asked him something more personal but she didn't feel much like prying and then she'd have to answer his personal questions in return. She wasn't ashamed of her celibacy but she didn't want him to think she was a freak.
