Riley and Eli | The Pottery Place

Finally Riley had free time on her hand. She usually didn't because she was either preparing for an important test or managing financial concerns with her mother or brother. Today was different because today she was free, hooray. She had planned something in her mind but it involved contacting her dear friend Eli to make it all come true. She had her fingers crossed hoping that he would accept or else she would truly be bummed out. Fortunately, Eli accepted and they planned meeting in front of The Pottery Barn where they would be making ceramics. Ceramics!? Last time Riley checked the whole clay splattered on one of her valued shirts and some even made it into her mouth. Well, she had to check tasting clay off her list. Still, she wanted to do something unique and fun and second tries sometimes were better than firsts. She stood outside of the place, checking her phone from time to time to see if her brother or other friends had left her messages. Riley had her hair up in a ponytail, a scarf around her neck that kept her warm, a cute sweater and floral designed skinny jeans accompanied by shiny combat boots. Her lips were slightly bold (it had been a new style she had picked up from a magazine) that made her smile stand out and brighter. All she needed was Eli to get this show on the road, but where was he? ( www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=81118270 )

Eli had never done ceramics before, so he thought it would be fun since Riley had suggested it. He was always up for something new, and maybe he would be good at it some day. He liked hanging out with Riley since she was one of his closest friends, they hung out a lot. Most of the time, and this was really a unique idea. He was wearing one of his favorite jackets, and a plaid button up tee shirt with a pair of dark jeans. He had tried to keep it simple assuming that ceramics was going to be messy. When he got to the pottery barn after a smoke in the car, and spraying himself with some cologne so that he didn't smell like smoke. He noticed that Riley was standing outside waiting for him. "This is gonna be fun," he said, looking at Riley, "You look nice," he said with a smile. He saw someone walking out of the pottery barn holding blue ceramic heart. "I wanna make on of those," he said pointing towards the person, even though his mom had taught him that pointing was rude. "It's cold out here, let's go inside." he looped her elbow inside of his and walked inside, inhaling the smell of clay as soon as he walked in. When Riley saw Eli coming, she smiled brightly and waved cheekily. She hugged him tightly when he was finally close to her and then said, "You smell great and look amazing!" she complimented before releasing him. She then did a small, slow turn and grinned, "Why thank you." Riley said with a shrug, "I found this in the back of my closet." she then laughed, "Actually, this is a brand new sweater."
When Eli pointed to the blue heart the person exiting the place was carrying, Riley nodded while moving her arm under his and walking toward the entrance. "I want to try and make a mug." she laughed, "Try because the last time I did ceramics I ended up causing a big accident in class." Riley explained while taking out her wallet and paying for both their entrances, "My treat." she said with a soft smile before she took the change.
"Alright, let's get our aprons on and bless us dear god for I have no idea what I am doing." Riley prayed quickly as she removed her scarf from her neck, set it aside and began tying on her apron. She took a seat on the stool in front of the machine that would form the clay. "Are you good at this?" she turned her head to Eli and asked him.

"Thanks," he replied to her compliment about him smelling good, and looking amazing. He laughed at her talking about trying, because he would do the same, in fact his heart would probably look like a potato if he was lucky, or maybe it would turn out looking like a lima bean he was reconsidering his options here, but ended up staying with his original decision to make the heart shaped thing, although it served no purpose other then to look good. Unlike her mug which actually served a purpose.
He was about to offer to pay when she decided to, and he didn't say anything. He just accepted her offer without a word, and grabbed an apron and tied it around his waist. "I've never done this before, but you make it sound fun," he said raising a brow, and sitting across from her in front of the machine that would form the clay. "I don't even know how to do this," he said. "But I mean it's about having fun right?" He was just trying to make himself feel better when whatever he was making didn't turn out to be anything but a blob of clay.

Riley laughed, the feeling of the moist clay in her hand was weird. She looked to the machine twirling and the clay shooting out everywhere including her face. "Just seconds after and there's already some on my face." she really had no idea what she was doing but she was going to make a mug.
"I'll be happy if I can make anything remotely legit to be honest." she looked to his display before concentrating on hers. "Anything new happening with you?" Riley asked Eli, interested about what was going on in his life. She truly did wish him to be happy always. He deserved it because he was not only a good friend but he was an honest one at best.
With him she has experienced what it's like to love someone unconditionally even if they're not for you but as a friend. Riley loved Eli, truly.

Eli pressed the clay into a ball, and he wasn't really sure what to do with it after that. "Set your expectations low, that way you'll never be dissapointed," was his response to her saying she would be suprised if she would make anything. At least that always seemed to be something that seemed to work out." He laughed when she got clay on her face. The feeling of wet clay against his hands was weird, he worked it so it was more spread out then the ball it had been in, now it looked more like a block of clay again. This was so now working out as he planned.
"Oh my life is boring," he shrugged. "You know I just sit around look pretty and break hearts," he shrugged. "I don't think I've done anything remotely worthy of talking about recently," he tried to think of something to talk about but nothing came to mind right away. "What about you?" He asked, "What's going on in your life," He really didn't like to talk about himself, and the fact that she had asked was the only reason why he was telling her that he wasn't interesting. He would have rather heard about her.
Riley was an amazing friend, but Eli was just a person that like to listen rather then talk. He never really had much to say, and that was why when someone asked him what was going on he never knew that to say.

What Eli had said was true. Riley had never heard that one before which was why she rose an eyebrow as she continued twisting the clay around. She then took some of it and began creating what she felt would be a mug. "You're right..." she said, staring down at the clay in thought. "But you know, it never hurts to be a little positive and expect more. Hoping for the best?" Riley said with a soft smile, looking to him and broadening her smile when he told her what he had been up to.
"Ah yes, you're too darn good looking you break everyone's heart." Riley stretched her arm out to poke him on the chest where the apron covered his shirt. She then sighed deeply and shrugged her shoulders slowly, "Me? I've been doing schoolwork... Helping my mom out with accounts... Oh all those things are a handle." she laughed softly. "I sometimes get very angry when all my brother does is lay around there and spend money. I hope when my father comes on thanksgiving he sets him straight. That'll show him." Riley said with a smirk, raising an eyebrow before looking to Eli.
"Your heart is coming along!" she said, proud of his work before looking down to her excuse of a mug, "Does this look like a mug to you?" she squinted her eyes as she held up the piece.

"Oh yeah, positivity helps," he shrugged, looking down at the heart he was making, it kind of looked more like a cloud then anything at this point. When she said he was good looking he couldn't help but smile. Eli didn't really consider himself that good looking, though he knew he was somewhat good looking, " I thought it was my personality that made everyone like me, way to ruin it for me,"
"Ah school work," he said. "That's no fun, I can't wait for thanksgiving to get away from school 'ya know, I love school, but it just gets boring after a while," he really didn't like school work. He just put up with it, and did it because he wanted to get good grades, and get into a good school after he made it out of here. Not that he didn't love New York and the city, he just didn't want to go to school there, and he loved the beach back in California.
"It... well it kinda looks like a mug," he said as he shaped the clay into the form of a heart more then it was before, he was actually quite proud that it was actually starting to look half decent, and her mug was also coming out well. If you squinted, and looked at it from the right angle. Ok so maybe it didn't look that bad.

Riley laughed and shook her head before standing up with her "mug" and saying, "Oh no, you have wonderful personality as well." she pursed her lips together before looking up as if in thought. "You can be very sweet but sometimes you're also... A little tart... And sometimes..." she looked to him once more, "A bit sour." Riley puckered her lips as if she had just taken raw lemon juice.
"No doubt, California is the best." Riley agreed before smiling closed. She was happy that Eli was a fellow Californian because she could talk to him about her home state and he would understand her completely. She then looked to his heart and smiled, "If hearts were shaped like that then the world would be a wonderful place." she tilted her head to the side before holding up her mug.
"Sorta... Kinda... I tried. That's all that matters." Riley said almost as if her kinda sorta mug looking thing was a true tragedy. "Come on, let's get these dried up so we can paint them." she said walking past him and taking his hand leading them to the section where others were drying their masterpieces.
Riley released Eli's hand once they got there and looked to all the other people's ceramics. "Wow, those are wonderful. Makes me feel like an amateur." she complimented. "That is a beautiful piece you have there." Riley said to an old man standing beside his well sculptured vase. She then turned to Eli and said, "You're lucky for being able to go to California. I wish I could go back, too." she said, leaning against the counter while waiting for her piece to dry.
"My brother's in Australia with his girlfriend. He spoils her so much. I do hope they last. It's the only girlfriend I know of his." Riley commented.

"Are you comparing me to a lemon?" That was a really weird comparison, but it didn't sound bad, as far as he knew it was actually nice. Lemons were nice, they were also really sour, so he wasn't exactly sure that was a compliment but he took it. "It is, I really love the weather out there it seems like it's always sunny and warm, unlike here," Eli didn't like the cold weather, really he didn't like any cold weather in general he was much more comfortable in the sun. "Oh and you can't forget all those hot guys on the beach," he said raising a brow.
He was surprised by her compliment on his heart but he didn't respond, and listened as he complimented some old guy's vase. He had to admit it, it was a nice vase. "I hope she marries him, any guy that took me to Australia is a keeper, I bet it's nice there," Eli wasn't kidding when he said that, any guy that took him on vacation anywhere out of the country would be amazing, he always thought it would be fun to travel the world when he was older and had enough money.
