Dallas likes the lights dim because he's been doing a lot of sleeping for the day he's been in there. Kevin comes by a lot because he's like Dally's brother.

As soon as she was off the phone with Esme, Kat was in her car on the way to the hospital. As angry as she was about Dallas's infidelity, she was still in love with him, and knowing that he was hurt was absolutely terrifying. Esme had tried to make it seem like it wasn't that big of a deal. Her exact words were "Dallas has been in a little...life threatening car accident. It may or may not have flipped into a ditch...so what's new with you?" She'd called Kevin to find out which wing he was in, but it was clear when she showed up that he wasn't expecting her to come as quickly as he did.
"Where is he? I she okay?" She asked Kevin when she found him sitting in the hallway on his phone. She was on the verge of tears, and Dallas's roommate had never seen her this upset before, which was probably why he looked so startled. He said goodbye to whoever he was talking to and put his phone in his pocket. "Yeah, he...he's in there." He pointed to the room across the hall. Kat turned to open the door, but Kevin grabbed her arm and pulled her back. "Kat, wait," he let go of her arm and she waited impatiently for whatever was so important he felt she needed to hear it when she was just second away from seeing Dallas. "There's something you need to know..." She waited for him to say whatever it was he felt she needed to hear, but he just stared at her. "What?" She couldn't understand why Kevin was wasting her time like this, when she could be in there with Dallas. He looked down, and pulled something out of his pocket. "This was on his dashboard when he wrecked," he handed her a picture from last summer when she still had bangs. "On top of being drunk, like...really drunk...they think he was distracted and..." He shrugged, "Kat, he misses you. I know what happened with you two was really messed up, but...please don't go in there and yell at him." Kat looked back up from the picture and furrowed her eyebrows. "Yell at him? Kevin, I may be mad at Dallas for what he did, but that doesn't even matter to me right now. All I care about is that he's alive, and I know you're just trying to protect him, but nothing matters to me more than his well being." She shoved the picture back at him and called him a dick before turning to open the door to Dallas's hospital room.
He was asleep. The only reason she knew he was asleep and not dead was because of the machines he was strapped into. Of course he always slept like a dead person, so maybe that wasn't anything new. It was just terrifying knowing that he really could have been gone. She pulled up a chair right next to his bed and sat down. She wasn't sure whether or not she should wake him up, but she just needed to see his eyes. She needed him to look at her, and she would know that everything was going to be okay. As gently as possible, she ran her hand across his cheek. "Baby?" She whispered, her voice cracking as her eyes filled with tears. "Dallas, baby...It's Kit-Kat. Wake up, baby, it's me."

{{ dally's face was thankfully spared xD looks like a mix of these 25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lpazvrkwYq1qf9bs5o1_500.jpgi3.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article797649.ece/ALTERNATES/s615/James+Johnson's+injuries }} Kevin stayed outside so that she could be alone with Dallas, even against his better judgement. He took the picture and shoved it back in his wallet for safe keeping and let out a heavy sigh as he tried to get comfortable in the flat chair. He was so mad at both himself and Dallas. Himself because he hadn't tried hard enough to take his friend's keys, and Dallas because he couldn't believe he would be so reckless. And he knew him to get pretty wild sometimes but this was just stupid. Dallas didn't have dreams. The time he slept, which was a lot in the past day, he just laid there and his mind went blank. It was hard for him to move even if he just wanted to try and get comfortable. Like he could move anyway with the sling they had put his right arm in to easy the strain on his broken collarbone, and the cast they had on his left to help with his fractured forearm and wrist. Life for him was really going to suck for a while but he was thankful that he would at least be able to walk. He was coming to as he felt a hand against his skin. Why the fuck was Kevin touching his face? Dallas groggily tried to move away from it and let out a deep, muffled grunt as he stirred in the bed. Well, to him, it felt like he was but he was actually barely moving. His vision was blurry at first and it took him a second to focus on who it was. No, he must have been dreaming. Kat wasn't actually here, there was no way. Dallas pushed out an airy chuckle and cracked a little smile which hurt to do. "Hey, beautiful." He croaked, wanting desperately to try to hold her hand. He tried to adjust so that he could face her a little easier but the amount of pain killers that was running through his body proved that too hard to do. His big brown eyes were glossy and probably looked like fake doll eyes to anyone else. "I love when I dream about you." He blurted in a quiet tone. His voice was hoarse and he was barely moving his mouth when he spoke.

(( aww damn. well i changed it so it makes sense then XD)
Kat laughed a little, but not because anything was funny. She was just so happy to see him awake and responding, even if he was half asleep. "No, baby. I'm really here. It's me," she moved her hand down to his and squeezed it gently. "Everything's going to be okay. I'll talk to Kevin about coming to stay with you again once you get out of here, and I'll take care of you and..." she was starting to get ahead of herself, so she stopped to catch her breath.
She rested her other hand on her belly, feeling her little bean move around. You couldn't feel it from the outside yet, because her swimmer wasn't strong enough, but it seemed like she knew she was near her daddy. In fact, every time Kat even thought about Dallas, Bean started moving like she was excited, too. She wiped her eyes and looked back at him. She wondered he would be able to tell she was still pregnant, even as out of it as he was. She'd made Esme swear not to tell him that she hadn't gone through with the abortion, so it was unlikely that Dallas knew.
"I missed you," Kat said after a minute of silence. "I missed you so much, it's not the same without you..." She had to stop talking again, because she knew she would just start crying if she continued. Maybe she was just being emotional, but she didn't care about anything. All she wanted was to have him back in her life.
