Miles sat perched on the edge of his hospital bed fully dressed for the first time in a week. A nurse stood in front on him, lecturing him once again about his pain medication, and how many times a week to change the dressing on his shoulder wound. Miles frowned reaching up to place a hand over the bulky bandages. The bullet had barely touched him, and if it hadn't been for an infection finding its way in to the wound he wouldn't have been in hospital for half as long. In an attempt to cover up the shoulder bandages he'd thrown on a grey blazer with shoulder pads, and under that a plain black t-shirt, paired with dark grey skinny jeans and black pointed leather boots. It was a pretty suave outfit for someone who was just getting out of the hospital, but it made him feel like himself again, and that's something he needed. Getting shot, if only a little bit, had really dampened his spirits, as you'd expect.
Not many people from school had come to visit him, but a few had stopped by when they'd been visiting others. For a while he shared his hospital room with Sam Dawson, but he was being moved from ward to ward, as his injuries were pretty severe. Miles had barely seen the poor boy conscious. Most of the social interaction he'd had during his hospital stay was over text, with Jem. In fact he'd text him just that morning saying that he was being let out at 3pm, just so he'd know.
'You're free to go now Miles, take care now, okay?', the nurse smiled and gave Miles a reassuring pat on the back as he stood from the bed. Miles did his best to smile back as he wandered out of the room, and it felt weird to be leaving. Now he'd go home, to his empty house ... And then what?
Miles had reached the front entrance of the Hospital and didn't know where to go, so he just stood there looking like a lost puppy.

Jem was one of the lucky ones who had been rushed into a classroom, the door locked, and kept safe. He didn't have any injuries or illnesses, except those of the mental kind. Since that day, he had been more skittish, scared of his shadow by day and night terrors confronting him every evening. He hadn't really eaten much and avoided sleep like the plague. He managed to survive through it all by texting Miles. After his most frequent and awkward encounter with Aiden, he couldn't face his friend. He ended up craving the company of someone who actually seemed to understand him - Miles. When he got the text that Miles would be out of the hospital at three, he managed to drag himself out of bed and put on clothes. He wore a semi nice navy blue jacket and dark skinny jeans, with a white t-shirt underneath. Putting on his pair of trusty Converse, he drove to the hospital, arriving out front in his beat up black Firebird Convertible was a little embarrassing. He knew Miles didn't dorm, and assumed that meant he had money. For a guy who had a decent part time job, Jem could only afford so much. The car was a gift from his parents, but it was so beat up that no one really respected the name or anything. It used to be a nice car, he knew. Arriving out front of the hospital, he caught a glimpse of Miles, looking a bit like a kicked puppy. He seemed to not have a ride (or so Jem hoped, considering he hadn't warned him that he was going to pick him up). Jem pulled up to the curb across from Miles and waved tentatively. For a guy just getting out of the hospital, he looked great. "Hey!" He called, beckoning him closer. { static.cargurus.com/images/site/2013/02/20/18/53/1967_pontiac_firebird-pic-2089996128241706443.jpeg }

Miles had just been diliberating between calling for a can or taking public transport home when a familiar looking car pulled up by him. At first he didn't even notice who was driving it until Jem said, 'Hey'. It was a pleasant surprise to say the least, it felt like months since Miles had seen a friendly face that wasn't that of a Nurses.
'Hello', Miles replied, edging forward towards the car, hoping he wasn't wrong assuming that Jem had come to give him a ride, 'Are you on your way somewhere or ....', he trailed off with a small shrug. Apparently a week away from real socialising hadn't done him any favours, as he found himself at a loss for words. Tongue tied in front of a cute guy that he had a huge crush on, urgh, Miles felt rather cliche.

Jem flashed his biggest smile as soon as Miles started walking towards him. He resisted every urge to jump out of the damn car and give him a hug. When they had first started talking, Jem decided right away that he liked Miles. They had been kind of flirty, which was how he got.his number. And from there, they had been texting sort of non stop - especially after the shooting. Their date they had been planning was to go to a concert to see some band and the guy that Jem totally had a celebrity crush on. When the shooting happened and Miles got hurt, however, they couldn't do anything. The band left town and Jem got over it, but he couldn't get that sweet Miles kid out of his head. So, he would text him to ask how he was doing and hold pleasant conversation - and it turned out nicely.
Now that Miles was out of the hospital, Jem had decided that it was time for them to actually hangout, without using their phones to communicate. "Yeah, I was looking for a friend of mine... You seen a guy named Miles? He's supposed to be pretty banged up, I heard. All I'm seeing is a guy who looks a lot like him but way too spiffy to be just getting out of the hospital!" Jem cracked a smile, hoping that his friend would understand his vague and probably not funny humor. "Miles, how you been? You look great. I'm your ride, hop in."

Miles beamed like a little kid when Jem said that he looked good, it made him feel a lot better, as he certainly didn't feel like he looked good. Quite frankly his body ached all over, and he felt a little light headed, as if he hadn't stood up properly in days ... Which he hadn't now he came to think of it. 'Oh, shh', he said, giving Jem a little push on the shoulder before walking around the car and getting in, throwing his bag in to the back seat.
Miles buckled up his belt and looked over at Jem a little suspiciously, 'Is this a kidnapping?', he asked with a smirk, 'Because I'm sort of okay with it...', he added.

Jem smiled when Miles got in, and revved the engine. "If you're okay with me kidnapping you, I can hardly call it kidnapping." He pulled out of the hospital parking lot, circling around a few times. He had no clue where they were going, to be entirely honest. He hadn't really thought things out, just read the text Miles had sent and drove right over. He didn't really want to take him back to his dorm - that place was a total mess. He figured going out to dinner or something might seem a bit formal, like a date... Maybe a coffee place? "I like to think of it as a surprise adventure! Where to?"

'If it's a surprise adventure then shouldn't go be picking the destination?', Miles asked, clutching at his hat as they drove along, it was one of his favorites and the wind was threatening to blow it right off his head. Honestly he didn't care where they ended up, as long as it wasn't anywhere on School grounds, he really didn't want to be at school. What he really wanted was caffeine, and food, food that wasn't hospital mush served on white plastic trays.
'We should go somewhere with coffee and food though, I am in serious need of real world sustenance', Miles added.
